Do you believe there will be a civil war?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I wonder if others feel the same. With everything going on, from the arrival of illegal migrants in small boats to a government that seems powerless, and with Farage gaining popularity because people are fed up, it feels like tension is rising across the country.

People are frustrated. You try to raise concerns and are instantly labelled a racist or bigot, even when your worries are about integration, safety, and national identity, not race. It feels like any honest conversation is being shut down.

There are parts of the UK where people who were born and raised here no longer feel at home. In some areas, if you are not part of the dominant local community, you can feel completely out of place or even unsafe walking alone at night. That is not right in your own country.

It is not just about people coming from Muslim-majority countries or those arriving illegally. There are also large numbers of Eastern Europeans, including Bulgarians, Romanians, and Russians. Many work hard and contribute, but there are also communities forming where people keep to themselves, speak no English, and make no effort to integrate. Some of these areas are experiencing rising antisocial behaviour, crime, and a breakdown of community life.

You can find videos online showing the state of some of these areas, with rubbish piling up, people ignoring the rules, and no sign of enforcement. It looks lawless, and it often is. But speaking about it honestly is considered of limits.

I live next to a Muslim family and they are wonderful people. Friendly, respectful, hardworking. So this is not about judging individuals. This is about a wider pattern where people are arriving, not integrating, and changing the fabric of our country in ways no one voted for.

We are a Christian country with our own traditions, values, and way of life. Why is it seen as wrong to want to preserve that? If we moved to Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, or Russia, we would be expected to adapt to their culture. So why is it unacceptable to ask the same here?

The anger and division in this country are growing. I do not want unrest or conflict, but I cannot ignore what feels like a serious shift. When ordinary people feel ignored for too long, things eventually boil over.

Is anyone else feeling this? Or are we just not allowed to talk about it anymore?

I haven’t watched the Betz video people mention so not sure how it’s framed but mostly we just vote rather than fight.

Yes, I’ve experienced this first hand. There’s a small town not far from where I live that I visit fairly regularly, and the situation there is quite different from what you describe. The area has a large population of Russians, Bulgarians, and Muslims, and there are even shops with signs in the windows that say 'no English.' This isn’t something I’ve picked up from social media it’s what I’ve seen for myself.

So yes, I have experienced it, and honestly, it isn’t a pleasant situation. I just wish everyone could get on!

Shops saying “no English”.

Sure Jan.

Superhansrantowindsor · 04/08/2025 18:11

Civil war? No of course not.
More riots? Quite possibly.
pressure on the government to have an election? Slim chance.

Just exercise your democratic rights and ignore the sensationalists.

Going to call bullshit on that - name the town and the shops. I grew up in the 60's to signs that read "No blacks, no Irish, no dogs" and I doubt whether anyone is stupid enough to hang signs of a similar ilk these days - and if they were I would have expected to see them adorning the front page of the Daily Mail and on one of Farages broadcasts....

First reply nails it. This is a weird right wing online thing.

Why do you think you're not allowed talk about it? There's daily threads on here about the same subject. There's numerous newspapers that push the same agenda, news channels, websites, etc. For something you're not allowed talk about, it seems to be everywhere at the moment!

That’s what I was thinking! It’s certainly a subject I hear an awful lot about, considering people are apparently not allowed to talk about it.
Who do you feel is preventing you from talking about it OP?

I make sure to refer to them as immigrants!

I used to get into barneys with fellow British immigrants in Oz who thought it was offensive to call them immigrants.

Same here!

Evaka · 04/08/2025 18:13

Myme · 04/08/2025 18:05

Why do you think the great unwashed refers to foreign people? Is it just because the majority of people there were foreign? In my opinion the great unwashed is normally just a kind of joking term for the public.

Because we were a queue of 100s of people from other nations.

JHound · 04/08/2025 18:14

But seriously do I think there will be a civil war?

You are asking if people want to see the destabilisation of society, financial ruin and 10s of thousands of deaths including their family members.

No I doubt many like the idea of that.

Snorlaxo · 04/08/2025 18:14

No I don’t.

Tensions are currently sky high in the US over immigration issues and they allow civilians to own firearms there. There’s been no repeat of Jan 6 even though Trump keeps on turning up the temperature. I don’t see Farage being more extreme than Trump.

I’ve often wondered if the Brits learn Arabic in Dubai or Spanish in Spain when they live in enclaves?

Oh but they’re not immigrants. They’re ex-pats!

PauliesWalnuts · 04/08/2025 17:58

Despite your "I have muslim neighbours...." - I think you're a racist, a plant, and trying to stir up racist conversation.

Or a bot from another country trying to stir... like the thread blaming Brexit for the small boats.

I think MN needs to police these type of posts. It's almost as if someone has said 'write a goody right wing/civil war/ I'm not a racist but thread in the style of an uneducated person with little understanding of how civil society actually works' to chat gbt.

Myme · 04/08/2025 18:15

Evaka · 04/08/2025 18:13

Because we were a queue of 100s of people from other nations.

So if the queue was full of white British people they could say it but not if they are foreign people right? Does the meaning change depending on the colour of someone’s skin?

AgnesX · 04/08/2025 18:16

No, because the majority of us have some common sense and aren't complete idiots.

These agitators will be the first to start whinging when there are food shortages, traffic disruption and they don't get paid or their benefits.

You’ve picked this example as if it supports your worldview when actually, I don’t think it does.

I’ve never been anywhere that’s had a sign in the window saying “No English”. Is that sign in the room with you right now?

CatEyeHoodWinkle · 04/08/2025 18:17

Yes OP a lot of people are feeling this and weary of being labelled racist for expressing legitimate concerns. Unfortunately lack of brains, poor decisions and zero backbone on the part of both the conservatives and labour will result in reform going in next time.

Sadly, though, MN policing these posts plays into the hands of the people who go on to parrot this nonsense about "woke" censorship.

Try harder, you workyticket.

YoureNotGoingOutLikeThat · 04/08/2025 18:19

No, and anyone who talks up the possibility should themselves be drummed out of the country (no, not being serious).

"People are frustrated" - are they, though? Most of my friends are more worried about getting their nails done, where to go on holiday and which Farrow and Ball to paint the hallway. Most of them have no idea about politics - half the time I can't say I blame them with the polarisation infighting and calling everyone else an idiot.

When I got to London (which is regularly), I don't have any issues other than getting a seat on the commuter train. Never seen a knife, not even a mugging and yet you'd think they happen all the time according to some people. (I'm not saying they do not, just not all the time as is claimed).

Maddy70 · 04/08/2025 18:20

No. Only the far right thugs that got booted out when football hooligism was ousted years ago will use it as an excuse to fight and be uncivil

Cinnamonx · 04/08/2025 18:20

Dont no dont care.

The trouble makers are the ones sewing the seeds of division (Farage, Tommy Robinson, Richard Tice and certain media such as the Daily Mail and the Sun.)

I don't think there will be a civil war, but I know who will be to blame if there is.

I changed my opinion because I saw what a difference housing illegal immigrants in a hotel made to my friend’s community.
Previously a ok place for families. Now my friend and her daughters can’t go out. Her daughters are teenagers and aren’t allowed out with friends.
If she complains about it she’s racist or xenophobic, and those accusing her of that are people who aren’t affected by it at all.

It’s a really shocking situation.

There was a similar thread this weekend that was hidden so MNHQ could look at it, probably reported for racism, which I don’t understand.

There are certain cultures where attitudes to women are revolting. As graphs showed on that thread sex crimes towards women are far higher from these groups. Why are these men allowed to be placed in areas where it affects women and girls?

For me this is the problem. I know someone will come at me to say that it’s men that are the problem, and I know it is. White men can rape too - but we have no option but to keep them. There are men seeking asylum who are respectful and don’t pose an increased risk to women and girls, there are legal immigrants from countries that are a pleasure to have around and don’t pose an increased risk for women and girls, yet the government and authorities have put so much effort into covering up actions from certain cultures leaving women and girls at risk, and even (in the case of the grooming gangs) making out the raped girls were the problem. It beggars belief.

If hotels were being filled with women and children escaping terrible conditions I don’t see there being a problem. It’s certain men that are a predictable problem, but apparently acknowledging this is racist.

People can ignore this issue as much as they like, and call people racists as much as you like, but all you do is send people over to the likes of Farage, who’s taken advantage of the gaping hole that the government has left wide open on this and other issues.

verityveritas · 04/08/2025 18:22

No. We’re all far too apathetic and a civil war would be far too much like hard work…now where did I put my comfy slippers and cuppa?!
