I couldn’t sleep last night, worrying about a Reform government

1000 replies

Cluborange666 · 01/08/2025 09:15

I am really worried. I think they’ll wreck the economy. I’ve got a few years left to pay off my mortgage from my job that deals with immigrants. I don’t want our pensions to tank. I don’t want my sons’ lives to be messed around. I worry about more racism, the more ‘voice’ that Reform get. I live in a very multicultural city and non-white people tell me that they are experiencing more overt racism. It makes me feel very insecure about the future.

wish Labour would do more to show that they are on the side of ordinary people as I think that’s what is driving this (I’m a Labour voter). I don’t think the creation of Your Party will help, just give Reform more advantages.

Sigh. Happy to be told I’m unreasonable as I think the future looks bleak.

I have been told this will result in more support for Reform. It is politically illiterate to not understand that according to @twistyizzy

Apologies it was Jennps who said that, not twisty. I get them mixed up.

I have explained in my previous post, what else do you want me to do.

Ok, all I’m asking is what did you mean by

Private school parents and everyone knows the roots of the extreme right

What do you mean by ‘roots of the ‘extreme right? What is the connection between private school parents and ‘roots of the extreme right’?

rainingsnoring · 02/08/2025 19:47

Not much point in staying up all night wondering about a theoretical Reform government. The UK economy has already been wrecked by terrible decisions over a very, very long period. It has got visible worse in the last 17 years (since the GFC) and especially in the last 5 years.

Yes we have - it was only a few pages back when you accused me of not being literate because I couldn’t understand one of your many scatty (putting it politely) posts. Other posters then said they agreed with me. Nobody said no, Goldenbear’s post makes perfect sense - I wonder why. Hardly a stalking issue I would say for me to recall what happened an hour ago?
You continue to post garbage relentlessly (no life?) and I am not engaging any more with it. Can only hope that you are one of these posters on MN that never stop for a few days and then completely disappear.

Actually, I do take stalking comment back just realised you aren't the alleged Bond's Market expert, your name also begins with J.

There isn't one as I posted in my thread to you about 10 minutes ago?😕 Why am I thinking of Dory, the fish from Finding Nemo at this point.

Can I just say as a parting shot that I wish I was a Bond Market expert 😁

and that's the problem, a lot of people are prejudiced, and reform tap into it. The main parties just hope they won't bother to vote and ignore their concerns. That's the scary bit. It's a big risk.

The Reform run council we have is doing a great job. First thing they did was fill in the worst of the potholes and also refuse to pay policing for a Pride march saying it Pride wanted to march they could pay for policing. We get our bins emptied too unlike neighbouring bankrupt Birmingham who are Labour run.

if it is where I think it is the council meeting information is a bit lacking. They don’t answer any questions. Was the quote “ you are like a broken record?”
will be interesting to see how they continue. The whole DOGE thing will be interesting to watch. Plus the big DEI dumping which could have a big impact on lots of people.

I don’t think that’s quite the case anymore. I wouldn’t have even considered voting for Reform a year ago, but now I definitely am. I know a lot of people like this. Labour have broken the social contract, Reform is the only way to restore it and that by listening to citizen (or populism if you prefer).

EasternStandard · 02/08/2025 21:12

yellowspanner · 02/08/2025 19:17

I am an intelligent well educated woman . I will be voting Reform. I believe they will stop the boats, lower my taxes and partially privatise the NHS and remove VAT from private school fees.
All policies I agree with

Fair enough. Those getting stressed about Reform is it these policies that are doing it?

MinevaZabi · 02/08/2025 22:06

A Reform government isn't worth losing sleep over. Our first past the post system makes it near impossible for them to win an election for decades.

What's more concerning is that the main parties continue to bury their heads in the sand and won't address the controversial topics and Nigel and his reform buddies swoop in and capitalise on this offering seemingly simple solutions to complex problems knowing dam well they won't work for anything more than getting attention.

I think we should all be worried right now, as the reports are that we are looking in a very similar position to Greece prior to their bankruptcy.

sense needs to prevail soon

Ive tried twice to link to betting odds pages but been blocked, basically Reform are clear odds on winner for the next GE.

Lyra25 · 02/08/2025 22:14

I think politicians need to stop being blown around in the wind by listening to the noisy media. This is a very modern thing. we vote a government in, they should get on with it and not be swayed every five minutes in what is essentially a popularity contest.
its crazy! Lunatics running the asylum.

and I’m not sure reform are the answer. People are just despairing at the endless failures of the main parties

Having the betting odds in their favour and winning the actual election isn't the same thing. A lot can happen between now and the next election and the fptp system makes it really hard for smaller parties to have a sudden landslide which is why we've been stuck with lab/con.

I’m pretty sure the analysts risking billions on offering odds of 5/4 of Reform forming the next Government are aware of the UK first past the post system.
