AIBU to think those who choose to not properly decorate their homes but wear designer clothes/beauty treatments have their priorities wrong? Is it a class thing?

I don’t wear designer and I can almost guarantee you wouldn’t consider my home ‘properly decorated’ and find this a very odd thread opener. Surely everyone has different priorities and can do as they please?

BleachedJumper · 31/07/2025 18:27

What constitutes ‘proper decoration’ op?

ShesTheAlbatross · 31/07/2025 18:28

Who decides on the “right” priorities? Why is a nicely painted wall a better priority than a designer handbag, for example.

And I say this as someone who never beats designer and loves decorating my house!

K0OLA1D · 31/07/2025 18:28

Whats proper decorating? Surely everyone's opinions will differ on that?

Syuoo · 31/07/2025 18:29

What does “properly decorating” a home look like to you?

Bananafofana · 31/07/2025 18:29

What’s “properly decorated” mean?

I thought the other day some people might find it odd that I wear £50k of watch/jewellery day to day and wear old or second hand clothes. People probably think my diamonds etc are fake. Maybe these people are wearing fake designer!

Painting walls and buying decorative items

I can’t afford to spend £5k+ on a new kitchen or bathroom right now, nor do I have the time for this to be done. I can however afford to spend £50 on a designer top from Vinted as it matters to me how I present myself to the world. I like to feel stylish and confident in my clothes. I don’t particularly care about how my 2006 kitchen is perceived! It’s functional and clean which is all that matters.

Oh goodie, a poster who hits and runs and clearly sees herself as above everyone else. Class thing indeed.

Aspanielstolemysanity · 31/07/2025 18:30

DH keeps saying he will sort decorating (I cant, I am disabled). Occasionally I crack and pay for someone to decorate a bit of the house but DH gets stressed by that.
Could I have your confirmation what my clothing budget should be please?

Does my woodchip wallpaper count OP?
It is painted magnolia!

So having plaster showing do you mean? What do you class as a decorative item?

Bananafofana · 31/07/2025 18:31

do you mean completely unpainted as in bare plasterboard or just not painted in a colour scheme? And now I’m wondering what a decorative item is. Things like rugs and lamps ?

Matzoballs · 31/07/2025 18:31

What a weird question.

BleachedJumper · 31/07/2025 18:31

Have you heard of minimalism?

Some people choose not to own decorative items.

People have didn't priorities.
You do you.

cheesycheesy · 31/07/2025 18:32

Bugger off with your judgement. People are allowed their own priorities.

So grey walls, mirror furniture, crushed velvet and live, laugh love decor?

Or is that not what you were thinking?

It’s my life and my home. I can choose to live however I see fit. It’s not the world according to you, OP.

No. It's seems your house may be neglected unless this was a recent decorative choice

I don’t know why you would care?

What an odd thing to compare?

Garlicchillilime · 31/07/2025 18:33

People value different things, and who cares what others value really? Does it hurt anyone?
