Those who don't decorate but wear designer

AIBU to think those who choose to not properly decorate their homes but wear designer clothes/beauty treatments have their priorities wrong? Is it a class thing?

Some people don’t want decorative objects and want plain neutral walls. Why does everyone need to be the same?

TheCurious0range · 31/07/2025 18:50

Some people like minimalism. You might like my house OP but I suspect not, it is old and colourful and has things in it that are not 'curated' . I also don't wear designer clothing. Which of your boxes do I go in?

MurdoMunro · 31/07/2025 18:50

stclementine · 31/07/2025 18:47

My house is the same. It needs about £50K worth of work and I just don’t have that money until I’m in a position to remortgage. In the meantime I prioritise wasting my money on lots of nice clothes, make up, perfume and my fancy car.
im sure the OP would seriously disapprove of me 🤣

Come to the party in my chateau tomorrow, we have no curtains but will move the goat from the bath for you. Wear all all your bling, in fact buy some more at the airport.

Painting walls and buying decorative items

We don’t all like decorative items. I like simplistic minimalist decor.
I am really interested in what you think are nice decorative items?

Screamingabdabz · 31/07/2025 18:51

MurdoMunro · 31/07/2025 18:45

I live in a chateau with no roof and 8 chickens and wear Loro Piana tesoro

Ha just googled it. Yes actually you do have your priorities all wrong. Stop buying £3 grand clothes made of unicorn wool that look exactly the same as H&M. Sort your roof out mate. 🤣

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 31/07/2025 18:51

I do have a gorgeous dress from Reformation and I occasionally get pedicures so I think that seals the deal. Gutter trash.

TheLurpackYears · 31/07/2025 18:51

But do they keep their garden nice? I judge people who do up the inside of their houses but leave the outside to run to seed. So there.
(I keep muhouse and garden nice but look like I've raided a charity bin in Asda car park).

Neutral is fine. There are different shades and styles within a neutral pallete

So you're saying I'm from a lower class because I think it's important to maintain your home rather than wear flashy clothes?

Even the fact that you begin to judge in this way immediately puts you into a certain class in my mind - it all sounds a bit Hyacinth Bucket

ilovesooty · 31/07/2025 18:52

Auroraloves · 31/07/2025 18:45

Their priorities aren’t ‘wrong’ they’re just different to yours.

Exactly.

MurdoMunro · 31/07/2025 18:52

UpDo · 31/07/2025 18:49

Bit Hyacinth Bucket really, innit.

😁

louderthan · 31/07/2025 18:52

Have a day off OP. So boring.

OceanStorm · 31/07/2025 18:52

@Flossflower items and/ or furniture

Because second hand designer items cost less than it would to get a professional in to do one room.

Because I don't need to find the time to wear/buy designer items but I do need to find time to decorate.

I painted my hall and landing last year including the bannister, it took weeks because I had to slot it in around everything else. I had to give up running/the gym because I just didn't have time to work and do both running and gymming or go for several hour long runs at the weekend.

I did one child's room a few weeks ago, took a whole weekend and it's a total PITA. Also have to do the other child's soon and I keep putting it off but to pay someone it would cost several hundred pounds which we can't really justify when we can do it ourselves.

We are still living with some skirting board missing after moving in a decade ago because we can't find the same one so it means replacing the whole room. Cost and time and when it's mostly hidden it gets forgotten about. I'm hoping for an extension in the next couple of years and that's when we will tackle it and probably redecorate the lounge too. I keep meaning to touch up the ceiling but again it's time. It's so much quicker to go onto the handbag clinic once a year and click buy for a handbag.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 31/07/2025 18:53

I bought new curtains. I'll reward myself with a pair of Gucci knickers

Sera1989 · 31/07/2025 18:53

Maybe they’re very busy and spend lots of time out of the house? Or they like to be well presented but don’t have many people round? Or perhaps just minimalist and don’t want the clutter/extra things to clean. White walls and no rugs in a new build is hardly neglecting their home. If they wore Gucci in their Range Rover but all their carpets were from 1972, that would be a different thing

Scar88 · 31/07/2025 18:53

Oh bore off

gamerchick · 31/07/2025 18:54

Really want to see photos of the OPs house now Grin

I really judge anyone who thinks they have good taste and some other people don’t.
It would be very boring if we all liked the same things.

aCatCalledFawkes · 31/07/2025 18:54

OceanStorm · 31/07/2025 18:48

@aCatCalledFawkes No. Nice furniture especially curated for the room or style of your choice

Right but my favourite sofa in my sitting room cost £100 off facebook market place. I have dresses that cost more than that (like £150). I think both are fine.

HunnyPot · 31/07/2025 18:55

I dust my knickknacks while wearing Chanel. Some of us do both.

I’ll be there and looking blingtastic!

cofffeeee · 31/07/2025 18:56

I dont like designer tags never have.
Im a minimalist i have next to nothing and every wall is bright white no pitchers on the walls no shelves.
Just 3 chairs a coffee table a green plant and 2 books light blue long drapes for the windows living room done.
Some would call it empty i call it clean mess free and peaceful.
But whats decorate properly every one is different.
