Tenant issue

Hi.

Have been renting to a tenant for 2 years and also extended AST for another year ending in summer next year. All good and fine, no hassle. This week two flats below were impacted by water emanating from my flat. The lower of the two has water marks/ damage to one ceiling, the flat below water has leaked to about 3 rooms - ceilings, carpets. plumbers have reported that it’s inconclusive and would need to do further investigations but say likely cause of a bath overflow. Tenant is worried as says this did not happen and is worried about further leaks. My flat is unscathed which I find strange if thankful, considering volume of water thought to have escaped. I will face claims from both flats which will be covered by insurance.

interested to hear what others would do as next steps.

There was no spelling mistake…
then they said it was dates…
The renewal agreement is already signed
the agency after this big water incident seemed to suddenly find a mistake in a renewal that’s been signed fir 2/3 months…

tenant rightly realised this could be a way to create a gap in btw tenancies that would create a void period ehich would mean a section 21 could be slipped in.

it’s my partners property in their name

I can’t believe this tbh it’s really sneaky

So you think your partner and the agent have cooked up an issue with the tenancy to try and evict the tenant?

Tbh in your shoes I'd be leaving your relationship.

Your partner appears to be a shit landlord, who has left a lot of running about to you, and wants to evict good tenants for no good reason. They're a shit person.

It’s crossed my mind (so I want to be with them after all this…)

i find it hard to understand why today a few days / week after the incident all of a sudden agent decides to change dates on tenancy renewal after the agreement being signed for a few months … unless to enable a void period where a pretty much no cost section 21 could be enacted. I could be wrong but sending it under the guise initially of a spelling mistake is so suss. And then the tenant calling their potential bluff and as far as I know the agents haven’t yet responded. Horrible tactics if my spidey sense is right. And should my partner have instructed them to do this that is very shady. And makes me feel slightly sick.

Oh and no or cooked up the water issue but the tenancy renewal sneakiness i do wonder how an agent can proceed without instruction…
