Immigration population up another 700k

1000 replies

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:35

I understand that this country needs immigration but if you import 100,000s of low skilled workers, in their 30s and 40s, how are they going to fund their retirement or pay for their housing?

It just seems counterintuitive to bring loads of people into this country who will need considerable financial support ( housing benefits, pension credits) when they are no longer able to work, and don’t have the means to support themselves.

Is that you Nigel?

ExtraOnions · 30/07/2025 23:39

How do you know they are all low-skilled workers in thier 30s & 40s ?

DurinsBane · 30/07/2025 23:40

immigration isn’t up 700k. The population is up by that amount. Yes a lot is immigration, some is more people being born than people dying

KrisAkabusi · 30/07/2025 23:41

Source?

Edited: If that really is just the population increase, then you're really not qualified to comment on things you other don't understand or you are deliberately twisting facts to suit your agenda.

Not saying they are all low skilled workers but a fair number are… care home workers for example.

Your figures are wrong, its closer to 400k, of which around a quarter are students and many of the rest are short term.
And why would the country not want to attract skilled professionals? We get the best of both worlds in the 30-40 age group, no training costs, and long working life still ahead of them

It’s overwhelmingly immigration; increasing birth rates is only a small proportion of the increase.

You have clearly never worked in a care home!

And who's going to do the important job of working in a care home otherwise? British born people don't seem to want the job.

where are you getting these numbers from? Look at the govt statistics, increase in population in Uk is overwhelmingly through birth, not immigration

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said almost all of the increase was due to international migration, despite it being lower than the previous year at 690,100 compared with 833,700 in the 12 months to June 2023.
Natural change - where there are more births than deaths - accounted for only a small proportion

Nobody is importing people. They are not being made to come here. They also have a choice.
We import food, materials, clothing etc. Not people.

Saying we import people is ridiculous.

It isn’t, the birth rate keeps dropping.

edit - sorry replied to wrong poster.

PandoraSocks · 30/07/2025 23:55

I think this is where OP has got the figure from. But where she gets the info about all immigrants being low skilled workers who will stay here forever, claim benefits etc? Who knows. Reform HQ maybe.

Wiseplumant · 30/07/2025 23:56

Many of these so called ' low skilled' workers are working in the health and social care sector which has a great deal of difficulty recruiting from UK work force as they don't like the work or the unsocial hours ( which is actually fairly skilled work on both a practical and emotional level) The NHS would be in an even worse state without them.

Yawn.
get your numbers and facts right.
do you read/are you the editor of the daily mail?
if you understand that the country needs immigration…. I’m keen to hear your reasons for this.
And then your … but…against it!

BIWI · 30/07/2025 23:57

I think that being a care worker is actually a highly skilled job. Would you like to do it @Atallglassimdof?

They should be recruiting from the UK workforce. There are loads of people seeking work but won’t work in a care home because it’s low paid.

Population increase of 700k… do we have the infrastructure to cope with this increase? Housing for example. This is a Ponzi scheme and will come crashing down.
