Immigration population up another 700k

1000 replies

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:35

I understand that this country needs immigration but if you import 100,000s of low skilled workers, in their 30s and 40s, how are they going to fund their retirement or pay for their housing?

It just seems counterintuitive to bring loads of people into this country who will need considerable financial support ( housing benefits, pension credits) when they are no longer able to work, and don’t have the means to support themselves.

I’m so ashamed to share a country with so many hateful individuals. Bore off!

Immigration to the UK offers several significant benefits, including filling labor shortages, boosting economic growth, and contributing to public finances. Immigrants often take on jobs that may be less appealing to domestic workers, particularly in sectors like healthcare and construction. Additionally, they tend to contribute more in taxes than they receive in benefits, helping to reduce the budget deficit and debt. Immigrants also bring diverse skills and experiences, fostering innovation and economic growth.

You are correct. 100%
Unfortunately moronic racists can't understand this, but 'save our kids' or 'stop the boats' is what they can 'understand' as it's three short words, and Farage and the Mail are clever at inflaming stupid people.
Take a look at some of the facebook profiles of people who post racist stuff on facebook- they are depressingly similar. Lager, football, lip filler, England flags and missappropriated poppies....working class England at its absolute nadir.

I really do wonder when people like this go to hospital and are treated by someone of African or Asian origin, how does that compute in their racist heads?

Strawberrri · 21/08/2025 11:23

On PM last night Lord Ken McDonald was discussing immigration. He said 20 years ago it was estimated that 2 million refugees can be expected globally. Now it’s 100 million -so as we are such a soft touch compared to the rest of Europe are you happy for the 100 million to come here because they will

lotsofpatience · 21/08/2025 11:25

Brexit will fix this. Oh wait!

How are we the soft touch of Europe when France and Germany have more asylum seekers than the UK?

That's yesterday's argument I'm afraid. Most of the rest of the country has now moved on to reality.

111,000 "asylum claims" in Labour's first year, half of which enter irregularly (ie jump the queue)

Small boat crossings up by 14%

The number of people in migrant hotels has increased. Last year it cost us £3.1bn

Labour has failed and it's getting worse.

Strawberrri · 21/08/2025 13:50

75% of claims get in to the UK -and the thought that these are all hardworking ,grateful incomers going to do care wotrk and sweep the streets is hilarious - there’s nothing to stop them having health problems and going onto benefits like a large proportion of the existing population.

and on the news just now 51,000 are appealing their failed application -what is that costing us in legal fees

These low skilled people will have the right to bring over family who will swell the need to UC childcare allowance family allowance housing benefit etc etc etc health free dental free and so on. so the ultimate cost per person will be huge. Unless the arrivals are all doctors, engineers and aerospace designers.

How many do you think we take compared to other European nations.

Strawberrri · 21/08/2025 15:28

Hard to find the stats as we aren’t in the E.U. but 900,000 came into the country during Ridhi Sunak’s prime ministership

Germany and France take more asylum seekers than the UK both per head and in total.
The UK is far down the global list of asylum seeking welcoming countries. I have met Syrian asylum seekers in Ethiopia, and Lebanon and Turkey take far more.
Of course, if you only get your 'information' about this topic from the Daily Mail and racists on facebook etc, it's understandable you'd don't have a good grasp of the topic.

Unlike you, I don't think the rest of the country has become racist.
There's no such thing as 'jumping the queue' as there are no real safe and legal routes to claim asylum in the UK. People with valid claims to asylum have to enter the country to have those claims judged, and the only way to do that is to either obtain a visa (very hard or impossible for asylum seekers) or risk their lifes crossing the Channel.

This whole situation could be solved tomorrow with a UK/EU agreemement to divide up asylum seekers per country by hearing cases in Greece/Italy/Spain or whatever the first country of arrival is, and if say aslyum is granted in the UK, by flying people there, or to Germany, or wherever. Then, and only then, could you reasonably deport people who had crossed the Channel in a dinghy back to France- this would be part of the agreement. It would require a massive inital investment, and goodwill across Europe.
It won't happen as 1) it suits some European governments to have immigrants as a bogeyman to distract the electorate, and 2) the goverment is too afraid of the far right press in the UK.

At this point, we should not be taking any asylum seekers at all. We have already taken more than enough. Let them go to one of the other 200+ countries in the world. People in this country are sick of it.

They pay an NHS surcharge when they obtain a visa, so they don’t use NHS services for free, and most visas are no recourse to public funds. We don’t just issue visas and allow people to claim everything for free, contrary to popular belief. The only people not allowed to work are those waiting for asylum claims to be processed, hence they need some kind of housing.

It's getting to the point where there is little point working as you could have almost as good a standard of living on benefits and with none of the stress that work entails. This is not a good thing. Benefits need to be cut and people encouraged/forced into work.

My friend has been a care assistant for 25yrs plus. She recently became unwell and has lost her job as it’s clear she cannot do physical work with the extent of her illness. She is actually no worse off on benefits. Which goes to show how rubbish her pay was, especially as she had progressed and wasn’t on minimum level.

I’m stating actual facts about people who come to the UK on a visa. They don’t all start on benefits straight away as some want to believe. Have your debate, but get the facts right.

immigration isn’t up 700k. The population is up by that amount. Yes a lot is immigration, some is more people being born than people dying

Actually more people and dieing than being born

Truetoself · 22/08/2025 07:54

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:59

They should be recruiting from the UK workforce. There are loads of people seeking work but won’t work in a care home because it’s low paid.

Yes so they can’t recruit people from the UK workforce for the reasons you gave. So options are to make the pay and conditions better which means we will all have to dig deep into our pockets or get people who are prepared to do the work from outside the UK. I wonder if overall it is still cost effective though 🤔

Would their children get healthcare, dentistry, schooling ? I suspect so and as we are mainly allowing unskilled men in when they bring over their often large families and sometimes other dependents they will get things provided for free.
