Immigration population up another 700k

Atallglassimdof · 30/07/2025 23:35

I understand that this country needs immigration but if you import 100,000s of low skilled workers, in their 30s and 40s, how are they going to fund their retirement or pay for their housing?

It just seems counterintuitive to bring loads of people into this country who will need considerable financial support ( housing benefits, pension credits) when they are no longer able to work, and don’t have the means to support themselves.

The only immigration we actually NEED is legal immigration.
Like my sister in law who jumped through multiple hoops at her own expense to proudly become a higher rate tax paying British Citizen.

Ok let’s base it on that then. estimate of number of foreign nationals in the UK is 10-18%, this will of course include tourists and unregistered migrants so is harder to quantify.

Tell me again what’s so outrageous about foreign nationals being 12% of the prison population? We can also assume that a fairly high proportion of them (around 4,000 last year) will be deported.

12% of 95,500 is 11,460 thousand foreign nationals in our prisons at £54,000 each a year.
Thats £540 million a year -and you’re happy with this situation

Farage campaigned for Brexit on the immigration card and 'taking back control.' The day the referendum result came in, what did he do? Resign! Literally ran away. You couldn't make it up.

And clearly Brexit has not meant 'taking back control' has it, because the boats are coming more than ever and poor people are just poorer.

Yep. Cameron too. He got off far too lightly. The damage that man caused this nation, trying to appease his swivel eyed loons.

OonaStubbs · 15/08/2025 22:20

I agree. Sooner or later the government is going to have to tell people that they have two choices, work or starve. Anyone saying otherwise is just kicking the can down the road for someone else to deal with.

So you're happy with starving people who cannot work?

Those are the extremes. Generally if people can work, they should. No one owes anyone anything and the sooner people realise that the better.

I’m happy with having some foreigners live in the UK yes. Are you not?

Not criminal ones. We've got enough home grown ones.

Bullshit. We have values in this country that we will up to. We need to take care of the vulnerable in society or what's the point of taxes. I there are no taxes, there is no need for government and anarchy will prevail.

I'd rather have nobody starve.

Ohthatsabitshit · 16/08/2025 13:05

There’s more than enough food in the world for everyone, and yet people go hungry. It’s not a lack of resources causing the problem.

How do you propose that no resident foreigner ever commits a crime

It looks like that is what will happen, as has always happened, and it's not just the MPs who want to continue giving out money we haven't got - sadly it's future generations that will suffer

that wasn’t the question. Foreign nationals are in prison at roughly the same rate as live in the UK. How do you propose not to have any foreign criminals in the UK?

Strawberrri · 17/08/2025 14:49

By deporting them

OneFunBrickNewt · 18/08/2025 10:29

One reason it's often men coming over on boats (I don't know why the right insist on the term 'single men' - you can't tell a man's relationship status just by looking at him) is that because there are so few safe and legal routes to claim asylum in this country, most asylum seekers enter by crossing the Channel. And yes, men often leave the families behind because it's so dangerous. A friend's relative did this last year from Eritrea- the dad crossed via small boat- and it was a horrendous journey and he nearly drowned- and left the family in relative safety in a migrant camp in Dunkirk. He has now been granted asylum and the family are safely reunited here, without the need for them to cross in a dinghy. Why didn't they stay in France? Well, they don't speak French and do speak English, and have family in the UK who are helping them integrate.

Chuck them out if they do. Their "rights" here don't include a right to commit a crime.

I mean fair point but it's always been this way back in the mists of time a Greek? Man killed his girlfriend was tried and convicted in the UK and when his sentence was served was successful in his bid to remain in the UK based on the length of time he had been resident in this country....the only reason he had been resident was because he was serving a bloody prison sentence ffs and he chose to live in the same town as the murdered girlfriend parents so they would have to see him and be reminded of him and what he had done

We never learn

4,000 foreign criminals are deported every year, a significant custodial sentence usually results in deportation.

Ha!

Only 4000 deportations. What are the numbers of foreign prisoners held in our jails?

10,772 foreign prisoners in prisons in England and Wales.

So 4000 is a pretty significant number.

I’m so ashamed to share a country with so many hateful individuals. Bore off!

Immigration to the UK offers several significant benefits, including filling labor shortages, boosting economic growth, and contributing to public finances. Immigrants often take on jobs that may be less appealing to domestic workers, particularly in sectors like healthcare and construction. Additionally, they tend to contribute more in taxes than they receive in benefits, helping to reduce the budget deficit and debt. Immigrants also bring diverse skills and experiences, fostering innovation and economic growth.
