Do you want a receipt

Bunnybenty · 30/07/2025 13:45

I moved to England not that long ago.

In other countries that I lived in, they just gave me a receipt in the shops, everytime that I bought something. The receipt was always handed to me with the purchase.

Why in the UK do they not just give the receipt to you,

instead they always ASK you if you want a receipt.

What annoys me about it, is that it slows the shopping experience down so much.

Many times I have been called back to the till, to be asked if i want a receipt.

Example: I was in a small shop this morning. I only had a certain amount of time, as i was on the way to work. I was walking out of the door, when the woman at the till shouted at me "Wait. Come back! come back!".

I thought maybe my payment hadn't gone through, so I walked all the way back to her.

She said "Do you want a receipt?".

It drives me mad!

I totally disagree with you and her.

I predicted at the start exactly what the bullies would write, as they write it on every single thread

We need a mumsnet bingo card to cross off what the bullies say. As they say the same shit all the time.

"Op you are mentally ill"

Bingo!

Has it occurred to you that people might be giving you the benefit of the doubt when they suggest that there might be mental health issues going on? It isn't actually an insult.

The alternative is that the unreasonable behaviour is just a part of your personality.

No of course it hasn't occured to me, seeing as I see the same insult directed at many OPs on mumnset .

I saw a poor woman post a thread the other day, and she was called mentally ill and nuts

It is intended to insult, not show concern. We all know it.

What are you even on about? I was called "bonkers" on this thread. Of course it is an insult

I do agree that someone wouldn't typically be expressing concern about your mental health if they described you as "bonkers'.

But I also think that someone using the expression "bonkers" is probably making a lighthearted comment about your behaviour rather than a serious observation about the state of your mental health.

That said, I've reflected on my own earlier comments on this thread, and I will concede that you're right - we should not make assumptions about people's mental health, even when they are behaving in a wildly unreasonable manner. We simply aren't in a position to diagnose, and your behaviour may simply be a reflection of your personality. I apologise.

Great. Just go then.

This is not an airport. You don't need yo announce your departure.

Wow. Either you're an expert troll, or a massive hypocrite. Which is it?

Seriously though, why are you still replying to comments nearly 3 days after your original post if the comments are upsetting you so much? Genuinely interested

Southern25 · 02/08/2025 15:26

But you need a receipt as proof of purchase, or if you want to exchange something such a clothes.
However if I go to my local COOP to buy a load of bread,I just say no I don’t want a receipt.
Many years ago I brought a crate of beer from a supermarket. The receipt fell onto the floor but as my hands were full, I didn’t bother picking it up ,thinking I didn’t need it.
On my way out an over zealous security guard stopped me and insisted I show him my receipt. So I had to put my crate of beer down and look for my dropped receipt.

In Lidl you have so scan your receipt to leave the shop, so you have to get a receipt anyway.

Ha! But you DID announce yours then promptly carried on responding. You've mentioned some kind of bingo and I now believe that you are deliberately trying to goad people so that you can complete your bingo card. That's the most logical (and kind) explanation for your unreasonable attitude and aggressive tone. Good luck with the full house!

Have you been in Ireland recently at all?

I am guessing that you haven't.

I have. So at least i have experience of what i am talking about.

You don't.

That's not a kind way to respond to posters on your thread have you always been a bully?

This needs to stop. It’s been going 3 days. What a waste of time arguing with strangers OP. There’s always someone on here looking to troll and make others feel bad. Just leave it now, you are playing into their hands by replying

OP enjoys arguing with strangers. Her tone is similar on many threads. Best not to engage unless you enjoy arguments.
I don’t, so I won’t be replying if/when you take exception to my post OP.
Just wanted to give others the heads up.

It is a national thing.

Your post is idiotic.

Loads of threads on mumsnet complain about things that happen in the UK.

How sensitive are you, that you can't take a complaint about something that happens in the UK.

My post is not idiotic - yours is the idiotic one for pretending that something that happens all over Europe only happens in the UK. And then doubles down on it despite being told by people from other countries that it happens in their countries too.

Kindly refrain from telling your granny how to suck eggs.

dynamiccactus · 02/08/2025 20:11

I'd have told him to look on the floor for it. As I get older I am less tolerant of bullying security guards who go after easy (female) targets who they've just watched pay for something, rather than the actual shoplifters.

500+ posts over 2 days and most haven't figured out OP is posting for sport. It's a wind-up post. 🙄🥱

OP, you are overinvested in this. If you don't like the answers just close the thread or stop replying, why are you so adamant to fight with everyobody, I don't understand, don't you have better things to do with your life? Is a bit silly, really, there is a nice show on Netflix, DeptQ is called, I really like it. Don't waste your time and mental energy on negative things, you got some answers you got offended and upset even if they were reasonable answers but if you are not happy just drop it. Everyone has an opinion and when you are posting on a forum you should expect you will get answers you don't agree with. Calling you bonkers is not bulying. I am bonkers in my way, I know it and is ok. In your OP you say you don't understand why you are not given receipt, you were told because environmental issues, you then said well it can't be that bad how much paper can be wasted, you got answers to this with numbers and statistics then you answer "WELL OF COURSE I KNOW IS TO SAVE PAPER" you contradict yourself and come across as confrontational and argumentative that's why the pile on. But is ok, understand this and move on why you keep fighting 3 days later I don't understand. Delete the post or unsubscribe notification, watch a nice show or read a book and take your mind of it. Understand you are entitled to your point of view, others are entitled to theirs. Respect the fact that we are different. All the best.
