Why are the Arab countries tougher on Hamas than we are in the UK?

Qatar, Saudi and Egypt are putting increasing pressure on Hamas to disarm and accept a ceasefire to end the war.

Meanwhile Starmer is giving Hamas exactly what they want, to be recognised with a state. Why is the UK so weak? Where are our sanctions or pressure on Hamas? Why is it down to the Arab states only to actually try to fix this mess by removing Hamas?

Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt join calls for Hamas to disarm and exit Gaza to end war with Israel

Arab nations — including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt — joined calls Tuesday for Hamas to disarm and give up its grip on Gaza to end the 21-month war.

24 loves and likes? Well you best take your mandate directly to Starmer and advise him that in your well supported view that 60k dead Palestinians doesn't touch the side of 24/10.

What a bizarre and meaningless comment. Maybe have a cup of tea and a nice lie down pet.

Ah, bit of an error, I meant 7 October 2023 ofc. But aside from that, which part of the 60k deaths requires sleeping on. You use the word vile but don't apply it to 17 thousand dead children.

(And if you have a pet, you know where you can put it)

And Ireland supported Hitler. What’s your point?

Ireland did not support Hitler during WW2. Ireland was neutral - like Switzerland, Sweden and Portugal.

British people ofen claim that Ireland supported Germany. Perhaps you feel that it would have been natural for Ireland to support an enemy of Britian, seeing as the Irish had to fight a bloody war of independence to get the British out, which had ended just 17 years before WW2. British forces were brutal in Ireland - bombing Dublin city centre, a densly populated area, from a battleship in the Liffey. The Black and Tans were thugs in uniform, who terrorised the Irish population. Britian also attremped to destroy the Irish economy, by starving Ireland of coal once the first level of independence was won, with the Free State - Britian would not accept an Irish Republic, and you still had all those warships.

But no, Ireland didn't support Germany. Allied airmen who bailed out over Ireland were brought up to Northern Ireland, back to the UK, while Germans were intereed.

But I'm sure you knew all this, as British people are so aware of their history.

Israel are now a rogue, right wing, fundamentalist state that are run by a dangerous prime minister wanted by the ICJ for war crimes , genocide & crimes against humanity, amongst other things...

They are building illegal settlements in occupied territories for decades now. These clearly contravene prior agreements & peace accords. In the past year Israel has descended into cynical ethnic cleansing, stopping humanitarian aid and causing a famine and untold hardship on the civilian Palestinian people of gaza, the West Bank & Palestine. Their soldiers now randomly shoot starving people simply trying to access food & humanitarian aid that other countries & more civilised societies have sent for the people of Palestine who are under daily siege by the IDF.

Israel through their IDF, are committing genocide, unspeakable war crimes, and crimes against humanity, such as withholding humanitarian aid to a starving civilian population who are now trying to survive in an Israeli maintained famine. This is terrorism on a national scale. Simply scary stuff. These are just some of the facts. The UN have verified all of these & more.

Meanwhile the rest of the world look on posturing & prevaricating over what politician says what. I mean why exactly are the free world, who espouse holding up human rights & UN charterers etc still trading with this right wing rogue state, whose IDF thugs are actively committing genocide & crimes against humanity, led by the absolute tyrant who is Netanyahu !?

Edited

I think a lot of this is true about the current government of Israel, they are awful in many ways, but the current government of Gaza, Hamas, are so so much worse - they don't even pretend to protect the people of Gaza, they use them as human shields, and they are refusing a ceasfire.

Hamas want to wipe out the Israeli population, the Israel government wants to wipe out Hamas.

Hamas also want to wipe out gay people, establish gender apartheid (can't wipe out women, but can take us out of public life), and to export terrorism in the name of their brand of fundamentalist Islam.

rosyvalentine · 31/07/2025 03:04

"Interesting how th adults don’t look like they are starving. During the Nazi persecution of the Jews it was the adults that were all skin and bones."

What are you trying to say here @beelegal? Your post is disgusting.

Bigandhorrible · 31/07/2025 03:23

It's pointless for the West to demand that Hamas will not be allowed to have any part of a future Palestinian state - it will be democratic, the Palestinian people will decide.

Hamas can do a rebrand, become a new political party, all it needs is a new name - Your Party? - and there's a strong likihood that they will win lots of seats in a Palestinian parliament, they'll probably end up as part of a coalition government.

What's the alternative - don't let Palestinians have the vote? Set up a Protectorate - not British this time, that didn't end so well, so Egypt, Iran, Saudi?

I believe a two state solution is the only way forward, but with Hamas so powerful, and Israel acting as such an effective recruiting tool for them, it's going to be far harder than it would have been in previous years.

Israel are murderous...higher life? Hamas, terrible as they are, could only dream of been as terrible as Israel and bombing as many hospitals, killing as many children through bombs and starvation, and also doing the same to women, and yes men, cos they are people too.

"Hamas, terrible as they are"....there you go again, with the understatements. Many of these pro Palestine posts are driven by emotion, while always downplaying the real terrorists. There's zero point in engaging.

TruckDiver · 31/07/2025 08:44

Supersimkin7 · 31/07/2025 00:38

No it isn’t. Daft.

No one wants Palestinians because they’re terrorist supporters and the other Arab states know trouble when they see it.

I wish the uk would stay out of this - everyone Arab is. They’re not stupid.

"Stay out of this" by not continuing to provide arms and other support to one side, you mean? Glad to hear to agree with the protesters.

EasternStandard · 31/07/2025 08:50

Canada has firmer conditions on Palestine.

Some strong reactions from Emily and other hostages over Starmer’s statement. Poor people seeing Hamas happy over what he’s decided.

Timetochangemyname · 31/07/2025 09:23

I am so sick of this view that all Jews are pro civilian abuse and anyone denying that is antisemitic. It is such a vile and antisemitic view to hold.

Kpo58 · 31/07/2025 10:06

Bushmillsbabe · 30/07/2025 15:40

Exactly. Hammas are sitting there and seeing people around them starve, knowing they could stop this tomorrow by returning hostages and relinquishing power.

But the government of Gaza (Hammas) does not care about its own people's suffering, it puts its agenda first at any cost.

Even if Hamas had returned the hostages, what makes you think that Israel would stop what they are currently doing to Gaza? Israel has been trying to take over the country for decades one piece at a time.

Personally I think that both Hamas and the Israeli government need to be outed before any meaningful peace deal can be done.

Ok so Hamas are terrible as I said.
No, make that that Hamas are very VERY terrible. But the killing they carried out on the 7th October is at about 2% of what Israel has returned on the population of Palestine. Hamas, terrible as they are, could only dream of been as terrible as Israel and bombing as many hospitals, killing as many children through bombs and starvation, and also doing the same to women and men.
And let's not pretend 7th October 2023 was the beginning.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/07/2025 10:44

The Palestinians are entitled to their own state; that entitlement isn't dependent upon what Hamas does. As long as it's clear that Hamas have no part to play in the process, can never hold power there and continue to be proscribed as a terrorist organisation, so what?

The difficulty here, @truckdiver, is that until quite recently Hamas enjoyed widespread support among Palestinians

As a PP suggested, all it would take is the pretence of a "rebrand" and we could easily find the same situation, only this time with them heavily represented in any new state

I can't get past you simply minimising 7/10 by using arithmetic. You really do need to stop.

Israel doesn't like Hamas? Should they be liking the murderous scum, who carried out a bloody massacre on 7/10?

Should the Palestinians be liking the Israelis, who have illegally occupied them for decades and are currently waging a genocide against them?

Hamas are awful, but Netanyahu and the IDF are also murderous scum.

Here we go again .."Hamas are awful" More understating of a vile terrorist regime. The only scum are those, who systematically hunted down jewish mothers, children, babies and the elderly and not only slayed them but tortured them. Tieing a mother and her child together and burning them alive isn't just "awful". Palestinians don't have to like Israelis, they just need to work together to help stop a terrorist regime - of course, that would require wanting it to stop.

If you want to observe this conflict by seeing how many numbers of humans have been killed, compared to others, oh please do crack on. The maths "ain't" interesting me. I will leave that start vulgarity to others.

And if you want to ignore the numbers, you crack on too. 60000 though. And with a massive number of people on verge of starvation, the rest of us can't. You've one thing right, it is vulgar.

Yes whilst it’s still run by Hamas. It means the Uk will be recognising Hamas as the government of Palestine.

Oh I see, so does that mean we should stop recognising the US as a country because it is currently being run by fascists who are stealing people off the streets, locking children up, deporting dissenters, and forcing women and girls to carry babies even if they are the result of rape?

Give me a break. The racism is extraordinarily transparent.
