To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?

OK, so they go to Downing Street to celebrate their win with the high and mighty of the land ... But who the f**k thought that combination of baggy trousers, grey, black, long shorts, low heeled shoes, a bit of white here and there was The Look?

Are they trying make them look like men because women's football shouldn't be allowed? Did any of them have the opportunity to say "actually, those big, baggy trousers don't suit me"? Because they don't for a lot of them...

If it's the M&S Collection, I won't be buying it as I already have enough wide leg trousers and waistcoats in my wardrobe, but it looks nice and presentable to me, just normal smart fashionable clothing.

Are you familiar with fashion @BasilParsley ? It's not the 1950s and women don't have to wear a full skirt and have a matching handbag with some heeled court shoes. Women wear trousers today you know.

Clearinguptheclutter · 28/07/2025 22:42

if you’re thinking colours of the flag, blue would have been a total no-no (matched with red and white anyway)

My fault, I forgot to actually quote the post. I was responding to this…

I'm sure they could have picked nicer clothes themselves - maybe in red, white and blue or red and white for England

onceuponatimeinneverland · 28/07/2025 22:45

Baggy is in fashion, as are waistcoats.

There seem to be several options being worn in the photos ive seen. Presumably they were allowed to choose what they wanted to wear from a selection . No one could be sure they would win so maybe the outfits were put together very quickly when they realised they were going to Downing Street . They are athletes not fashion models.

Couldn’t care less, think they are all amazing!
why are we continuing to judge them in their outfit

Well, you're not, and neither am I or others here.

As it happens, I hate these outfits, but I don't care about them.

Sakura7 · 28/07/2025 22:43

Yep.

OP showing herself to be terribly out of touch.

I'm 49 and wear wide legged trousers and a waistcoat top for work sometimes. I'm a size ten and tall and not in my dotage

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/07/2025 22:47

Had to google it. It screams Marks and the trousers look a bit cheap and nasty in that colour imo. But they all look good.

Merlin23 · 28/07/2025 22:47

They were designed by M&S

DorothyWainwright · 28/07/2025 22:47

I thought they looked good. Much smarter than everyone in a dull suit that doesn't work for anyone. At least they were allowed to wear what they felt comfortable in.

Norwegianwood35 · 28/07/2025 22:47

BasilParsley · 28/07/2025 22:24

Sorry, but I'm not goading, I'm just not understanding That Look ...

You don’t need to understand the look. If they are comfortable and like what they are wearing that’s all that matters.

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 28/07/2025 22:48

I thought they looked a bit ridiculous tbh. But hey - they won!!!

FacingTheWall · 28/07/2025 22:48

Usually with the sports team ‘uniforms’ they get to choose what they want to wear from a selection of various items, it’s the same for the Olympic teams etc. They look great.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 28/07/2025 22:49

I think they looked really cool!

I never said you were?

Clearly OP is out of touch though, with those views.

They’re dressing appropriately and fashionably for their age group - most of them are in their 20s.

News flash - different age groups dress differently.

Agree, they look just like most young people that age dressed up.

The misogyny is rife,ci heard a female BBC news reporter saying they were bleary eyed and commented with disdain about their partying and celebrating.

So sad but predictable unfortunately.

I understand that point of view - but were they really comfortable and liked what they were wearing given that it has now been, apparently, confirmed they were dressed by M&S? (My point of view on their attire is totally different from their success on the pitch - they did a cracking job there!),

SweetFancyMoses · 28/07/2025 22:51

I’ve just had to google. I like their trousers.

spoonbillstretford · 28/07/2025 22:52

Ah, the team suits. Pretty fashionable as these things go. I remember the men looking fucking dreadful in theirs sometimes.

And some of them are gay and/or prefer to look masculine or androgynous. What of it?

To think the Lionesses' Outfits in this Picture are Ridiculous?
summerskyblue · 28/07/2025 22:52

Really?

Rather than celebrate their sporting achievements you choose to focus on their clothes?

I am so sick and tired of women and girls being judged on their appearance rather than their skills/talents/intelligence.

I think they make great role models and the fact that they choose to dress in clothes they feel comfortable in adds to their appeal.

If you are that obsessed about clothes stick to fashion magazines and vapid Instagram influencers...

JayJayj · 28/07/2025 22:52

They look like a school group has gone wearing their crappy uniform. You can get really nice suits for women that are oversized/baggy and still look good. It doesn’t look like a photo to remember for me. Not smart at all.

bigbluefish · 28/07/2025 22:53

Sorry but I agree. Their outfits are awful. And for that reason distract from their brilliant sporting achievement.

Lucyccfc68 · 28/07/2025 22:53

Maybe those criticising their ‘look’ are a tad too old to appreciate that is what young women and girls wear.

And here’s me thinking that their winning back to back European titles was the story. But sure, outfits 🤦‍♀️

bigbluefish · 28/07/2025 22:53

How on earth does what they wear detract from their sporting achievement?

SpidersAreShitheads · 28/07/2025 22:54

When the men's cricket team - Freddie Flintoff era - attended Downing Street, no one was scrutinising their outfits.

The Lionesses are a sports team, not celebrities whose job it is to parade fashion.

A man would have to be wearing something breathtakingly outrageous for their attire to be a) noticed and b) commented on, en masse.

The fact that there are people out there who are judging sports women on their choice of clothing rather than just celebrating their achievement reflects the misogyny which is so inherent in our society, and why we have such a long way to go to achieve parity.

Also, while I'm writing - fuck Joey Barton, he really is a giant prick. His comments last night were a bloody disgrace - as per usual.
