To vote for Jeremy Corbyn’s new party over Reform

Bunion8 · 28/07/2025 17:09

Just wondering how people here are feeling politically these days — especially those who are disillusioned Starmer and the Tories.

With Reform UK gaining momentum and Jeremy Corbyn & Zarah Sultana launching a new left-wing party I’m curious:
If you had to choose between the two, which would you be more likely to vote for — and why?

I know they’re obviously very different politically, but both seem to be tapping into dissatisfaction with the status quo. Reform appeals to those who feel let down by immigration policy, the economy and ‘woke’ culture, while Corbyn’s party is focused on wealth inequality, public ownership, Gaza, and climate justice.

Would love to hear where people stand — especially if you don’t usually vote, or have changed political allegiances recently.

YABU - Vote Reform
YANBU - Vote JC

Of the two I’d go for JC and ZS, but I wouldn’t be massively happy about it! I wasn’t happy about JC v Boris Johnson either mind you.

Reform are actually evil whereas JC is just inept. So prefer him. But a choice of “actually aligned with russia/ in their pay” and “won’t protect us against russia because he doesn’t believe in having nukes” is a bit shitty either way!

Livelovebehappy · 28/07/2025 20:27

Corbyn is a joke. He was annihilated when he stood last time, and will be annihilated when he runs again. He’s as far left as you’re gonna get, and people just don’t want that kind of government now. Labour are ruining our country, and if Corbyn and co get in next time around, he would all but finish us off.

Surely if we “stop the boats” and ban woke we’ll all be living in some kind of sunlit utopia. It really is that simple.

And will we get the unicorns gambolling in the sunlit uplands that we were promised by the 'kippers during the referendum campaign?

ilovelamp82 · 28/07/2025 20:31

Corbyn for me. Couldn't bring myself to vote anything else.

I mean the slogan would probably change from stop the boats to shoot the boats.

freerangethighs · 28/07/2025 20:33

I would not vote Reform, full stop. The whole raison d'être of that party and its several immediate predecessors was to damage the country for personal benefit. At least the Conservatives (and Labour) have some history that involves doing some not completely awful things under previous leaders and not just one colossal numpty. RE Corbyn's party, I'm not initially keen but I'd have to wait and see.

woodlandcalm · 28/07/2025 20:34

bellamorgan · 28/07/2025 19:47

It would be an anyone but Corbyn vote.

I always thought that is how Johnson got in in 2019, that voters weren't voting for him but against Corbyn.

sleepwouldbenice · 28/07/2025 20:35

SparklyMoose · 28/07/2025 20:16

For me it's the other way around, I'm way off to the left in terms of economic policy, but I'm put off Corbyn by his antisemitism (and many of his supporters' willingness to excuse, deflect or parrot it).

Not that I wouldnt have much more profound objections to Farage's character.

I don't disagree with the strong dislike for some views and policies! But F spreads misinformation and hatred and will really s* on the weakest in our society and my hatred of this is stronger

HappiestSleeping · 28/07/2025 20:35

@Bunion8 I am politically homeless. I didn't vote Labour, but wanted the Conservatives out. Labour have made some good moves, but got the cut offs wrong, and also some bad moves.

I could vote for Jezbollah. He was unelectable before, and is no different now.

Farage is a joke. Populist bullshit, no substance, and stirring racial hatred. Not to mention the attendance record etc etc.

Lib Dems don't stand a chance.

I spent years spoiling my paper, but it is too important to do that now. But I don't know where to put my cross 😖

I think that’s exactly how Labour got in this time tbh Anyone but the Tories how after all
these years.

No way, Labour have turned me into a 1 issue voter and Corbyn won't do anything so it's Reform for me.
Labour had the chance to unite country, instead they chose to be divisive and hateful.

You say labour have turned the country divisive and hateful, but you’re voting reform? Are you really this delusional? You don’t have to like Labour to understand that ‘divisive and hateful’ are embedded in the very soul of reform. That’s why they have gained such popularity with their ‘us vs them’ rhetoric. Can’t believe someone can be so blinkered as to write what you just did with a straight face.

Yellowstickerstalker · 28/07/2025 20:46

I think people are so desperate for an easy fix they will overlook or forget elements of both parties which are lacking and in Farage’s case absolutely abhorrent. He’s a lazy s@it for starters and a complete opportunist with no legacy whatsoever. How no idea why anyone would think he can ‘sort out the country’ If they get in we are f&cked!
Corbyn had his chance, he helped enable Brexit, was very silent about the Salisbury poisonings (has a weird thing about not criticising Russia, look back and you’ll see how weird his response at the time was!), and allowed anti semitism to run rife in the party, which I believe, rightly or wrongly has influenced the weird way Labour has dealt with the awful situation in Gaza (until finally now).
Voting Corbyn will enable Farage so it’s the same thing really.

Get over yourself. Labour ran their election on soundbites and slogans! They used the populist playbook
The only way to get Labour out up here us by voting Reform, any other vote allows Labour a win. They've lost the Red Wall to Reform.
That's why I will vote for them ie the same tactical voting that got Labour elected in the first place! Voting for Labour last year was a vote against the Tories for many not a vote FOR Labour.

MaggieBsBoat · 28/07/2025 20:50

I liv in the EU, I’d be really interested as a Brit abroad what Reform will do to improve the country. Let me know so I can come back!

What are their policies and plans Reform Voters? Anyone?

I think it’s a case of what’s the worst that can happen at this point. Voters are never getting what they voted for just hopelessly drifting. Hoping praying someone has the answer.

Torys no. Labour no. Next contender reform, Corbyn new group, Lib Dem’s, Green.

Tensions are definitely rising over the hotels and male only asylum seekers. More and more protests there so that’s likely what will clench the next election. Who will stop the men in boats.

edit to add.

and how far are we willing to go to stop them? Will shoot the boats become a thing?

We now have ID for porn, but not mandatory ID for being in the country. Make it make sense.

ChaToilLeam · 28/07/2025 20:53

If those were the only two choices, we really would be fucked.

LOL 😂😂😂😂😂 populist playbook? Every party has soundbites and slogans! What about ‘build back better’ (Tories) or ‘Reform will fix it’ (rather unfortunate choice of slogan there, if you ask me 😉) or whatever it was? That’s part of the psychology of politics and it’s always been a thing. Have you heard yourself? You’re utterly deluded. Reform are a populist party and have always been known as such 😂. Can’t argue with someone like you. I’m out!

LakieLady · 28/07/2025 20:58

Lib Dems don't stand a chance.

I live in a Lib/Con marginal, so I vote tactically to try and keep the Tory out.

The LD MP we had from '97-2015 was a bit of a tit, but he was a very decent constituency MP. I know loads of people who had him intervene in all sorts of casework matters, and he and his team worked really hard.

We had a Tory next, who didn't live in the constituency and was so rarely spotted here that it was rumoured she was actually an endangered species.

The LD who won last year seems really excellent. Not only have I seen him in town several times, he lives in another town in the constituency so is on top of local issues, and when I emailed him to ask him to oppose Labour's benefit reforms, he actually rang me to make sure he'd understood exactly what the particular issues I was highlighting were. He's also met with our CEO, who was impressed by him, and our CEO is a hard person to impress.

"Someone like me"? A lifelong Labour voter who is disgusted in this incarnation of the party and sick of the gaslighting and lies?
OK 👍

Yeah they all say they were ‘lifelong Labour voters’ no Labour loyalist goes from them to reform who sit on opposite ends of the political spectrum. You might be disillusioned but that’s quite a leap. I didn’t say you had to like Labour at the moment, I’m not over the moon about a few of their decisions, but it would be a cold day in hell before I voted for that bunch of amoral charlatans with a Temu Trump who lies as easily as he breathes.

‘gaslighted and lies’ yet you want to vote for one of the biggest and most corrupt liars in U.K. politics who bases his whole ideology on his equally narcissistic mate across the pond 😂

CatsAreCool222 · 28/07/2025 21:10

Corbyn's new party will be getting my vote, without a doubt. Labour are just the same as Conservative now, they may as well unite and become one

twistyizzy · 28/07/2025 21:11

They are the only alternative where I live ie Red Wall area. They are only opposition party to Labour up here, I have explained that but you obviously chose to ignore that bit 🙄
Labour have lost most of Red Wall to Reform.

dottiedodah · 28/07/2025 21:11

Well I would not want to vote Reform for sure. Apart from his obvious wish to curb immigration (easier said than done) he has not made any real statements about NHS .Education and so on.Rathet like Brexit he is appealing to.mainly tory voters.older people seem to think of a golden age.reality less rights for workers more expensive food .long waiting lists. I am neutral about KS and RR etc.but they are investing heavily in NH S

It doesn’t matter, my whole argument was based on you saying you think labour are divisive and hateful and that they lie and gaslight but then say you’re voting reform and the irony has completely passed you by. Mind you, I do tend to find most reform voters don’t have the soundest of reasoning. In fact, I’m yet to meet a single one who I find to be a well adjusted and reasonable person.
