To vote for Jeremy Corbyn’s new party over Reform

Bunion8 · 28/07/2025 17:09

Just wondering how people here are feeling politically these days — especially those who are disillusioned Starmer and the Tories.

With Reform UK gaining momentum and Jeremy Corbyn & Zarah Sultana launching a new left-wing party I’m curious:
If you had to choose between the two, which would you be more likely to vote for — and why?

I know they’re obviously very different politically, but both seem to be tapping into dissatisfaction with the status quo. Reform appeals to those who feel let down by immigration policy, the economy and ‘woke’ culture, while Corbyn’s party is focused on wealth inequality, public ownership, Gaza, and climate justice.

Would love to hear where people stand — especially if you don’t usually vote, or have changed political allegiances recently.

YABU - Vote Reform
YANBU - Vote JC

Blimey if these two were the only options think I would be finding a high building!

TaborlinTheGreat · 28/07/2025 18:46

LizzieW1969 · 28/07/2025 18:06

I really wouldn’t vote for either of them. If they were the only 2 options, I just wouldn’t vote at all.

Same here. I don't know who else I'd vote for either though. I held my nose and reluctantly voted Labour in the last election, but they've lived up to my suspicions. Couldn't vote Tory. It's very depressing.

Catsandcheese · 28/07/2025 18:54

I am another who thought Corbyn would be a good choice as leader of the opposition, and how wrong was I. However hell would freeze over before I voted for Reform. Horrible party with horrible values and no policies.
My head explodes trying to understand why people might vote for them.

Sadly, I’m inclined to agree. I never thought I would seriously consider not voting, considering how hard women fought for the vote. I might find myself politically homeless come the next election.

Why are people who feel economically poor and left behind getting behind Farage? Reform policies state -

Tax breaks for small businesses (nothing about tax breaks for those on low incomes)

Tax breaks for those paying independent school fees

Threshold for stamp duty to be raised to £750k

Even though all of these would actually benefit us, if Reform get in, it might be the push for us to leave the UK. The man and his cronies are truly sickening.

Apart from the above, Reform will

Scrap net zero targets (WTF!)

And of course, they will be sure to Stop The Boats. Yeah right. Definitely.

So what is it that people on low incomes think will benefit them?

You can't give a tax break to people on low incomes they don't pay any tax! He's hardly going to give them even more handouts.

IToldYouSoSee · 28/07/2025 19:24

I actually find JC very reasoned. I think it’s very sad that solving wealth inequality, tackling climate issues and stop paying for nukes when every nuke country has enough to wipe out everything about 100 times. No one will nuke us just bc we don’t have any, if a world leader is crazy enough to use nuclear weapons it’ll be shit or die pre emptive strike/s and little England not having any to fire back will make zero difference to anything. I think he doesn’t act like a politician, eg he’s too honest!

SparklyMoose · 28/07/2025 19:37

There aren't many circumstances in which I'd be prepared to vote for Jeremy Corbyn again.

A binary between his new party and Reform would do it, though.

Comedycook · 28/07/2025 19:39

What a choice...my politics are centre verging on centre right. If pushed I'll go right and vote reform. Wouldn't be thrilled about it though

LakieLady · 28/07/2025 19:40

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/07/2025 17:13

I won't be voting for either, but I would vote for almost anyone over Reform. I'd rather not vote at all if a Farage party was my only option.

That said, I don't really want JC at the helm either.

I'd be surprised if the new party elects as Corbyn as leader, and I don't think he'd want to be either. He's in his mid-70s, so might even be 80 by the time of the next general election. John McDonnell's not much younger, either, so I think that rules him out, which is a bit of a shame. He was an excellent councillor when he was on the GLC.

I think Clive Lewis would make a good leader for the new party, if he decides to join it. He's intelligent, articulate and principled and comes across as a very decent person.

Comefromaway · 28/07/2025 19:40

I think both would be disastrous for the country but on the basis that Farage is a nasty piece of work & Corbyn is a nice bloke albeit deluded I’d go for him and hope for the best.

But realistically I’ll stick with Labour unless the conservatives get their act together.

bellamorgan · 28/07/2025 19:47

It would be an anyone but Corbyn vote.

SunnyPrague · 28/07/2025 19:53

if I HAD to pick between Reform and Corbyn I’d have to hold my nose and say Reform.

But isn’t a single party that I trust to be competent these days:
Farage is a clown. Corbyn is an antisemite/ communist nutcase. The Tories had 14 years and ran the country into the ground. I’m still waiting for Keir Starmer to get to grips with what he needs to do.

Of them all I think KS is the best option - but only just.

bellamorgan · 28/07/2025 19:55

dairydebris · 28/07/2025 18:00

Ooooooo I get it I love this game!

Would you rather have a face for a butt or a butt for a face?

Would you rather run naked through spiders or nettles?

Just no!

A face for a butt I think. Naked though nettles.

Willies for fingers or willies for toes?

I agree with this. It's interesting watching people tying themselves in knots to slam Corbyn when he isn't even leader of the party yet, and i would imagine won't be - partly due to age, but also because of the way he is viewed and was slated as labour leader. Maybe they're just trying to stop the momentum building too much, (which seems to be failing anyway) but it will be interesting to see what happens if he isn't leader of the party.

NonComm · 28/07/2025 20:03

Jumpthewaves · 28/07/2025 17:48

I've not had a chance to look at them in detail yet.

However, I will definitely not choose Reform, I am amazed by just how many people are willing to be taken in by Nigel Farage and his crew. He's a proven liar and some people want more, it's like returning to a cheating, lying husband.

Totally agree. I’m surprised that so many Reform fans are so very willing to give up the NHS for themselves and their families. I’m sure that their kids will thank them 🤔 Farage may as well promise every voter a million pounds - he can say it, he has no actual plan to do it, it’s never gonna happen and when it doesn’t - it’ll be someone else’s fault.

GulliaumeDuc · 28/07/2025 20:08

Surely if we “stop the boats” and ban woke we’ll all be living in some kind of sunlit utopia. It really is that simple.

twistyizzy · 28/07/2025 20:08

No way, Labour have turned me into a 1 issue voter and Corbyn won't do anything so it's Reform for me.
Labour had the chance to unite country, instead they chose to be divisive and hateful.

IamnotSethRogan · 28/07/2025 20:08

Jamaicanmoon · 28/07/2025 17:31

What a biased summary you have of the two parties - all negatives for Reform and all positives for Corbyn.

I think either of those two will be an absolute disaster in power. Neither have the experience in their parties for government. Having said that I would pick Reform. Even if you hate him, Farage has been extremely successful as a politician having successfully achieved a referendum he wanted, and then won it. Whether you hated that this happened is irrelevant to it being successful in terms of a politician achieving his goal. It was a major goal too. Corbyn has failed massively. Spent his life as a backbencher, surprised everyone, including himself, in becoming leader and then led his party to a historic defeat. He has achieved precisely none of his political goals.

So I'd vote Farage simply because he has been more successful politically.

I mean Hitler was a successful politician. Wouldn't vote for him though

Mainly because it is better to have a well funded heath provision even if some of that funding comes from the private sector than a heath provision is bankrupt.

Nagginthenag · 28/07/2025 20:10

If these were the choices, for the first time in my adult life I would spoil my ballot.

sleepwouldbenice · 28/07/2025 20:11

I am pretty centrist with my politics, but hell would freeze over before I would vote for reform
There are many things wrong withJC but he comes from a much better place in terms of values and priorities than Farage
the depressing thing is that many people that would benefit from a socialist government will vote for reform due to the sound bites and populist approach, with no substance

For me it's the other way around, I'm way off to the left in terms of economic policy, but I'm put off Corbyn by his antisemitism (and many of his supporters' willingness to excuse, deflect or parrot it).

Not that I wouldnt have much more profound objections to Farage's character.

Reform. I’ve always been a conservative voter but I switched to Reform and I’m very excited by the prospect of them finally sorting out the country.

Who are the people in Reform who you think could ‘sort out the country’ (whatever that means…), and how might they achieve this feat…

Araminta1003 · 28/07/2025 20:21

Well they would both destroy what is left of the country, so I guess neither or either, no difference really.
