To vote for Jeremy Corbyn’s new party over Reform

Just wondering how people here are feeling politically these days — especially those who are disillusioned Starmer and the Tories.

With Reform UK gaining momentum and Jeremy Corbyn & Zarah Sultana launching a new left-wing party I’m curious:
If you had to choose between the two, which would you be more likely to vote for — and why?

I know they’re obviously very different politically, but both seem to be tapping into dissatisfaction with the status quo. Reform appeals to those who feel let down by immigration policy, the economy and ‘woke’ culture, while Corbyn’s party is focused on wealth inequality, public ownership, Gaza, and climate justice.

Would love to hear where people stand — especially if you don’t usually vote, or have changed political allegiances recently.

No it doesn't tell you anything.
Have you actually watched the full (not edited) versions of the press conferences? It was the most excruciating thing I've ever seen. I don't agree with Trump but he outplayed Starmer on everything.
Watch the full recordings. Starmer was atrocious.

They probably didn't watch the full version, just the BBC edited one 🤣🤣

twistyizzy · 29/07/2025 12:03

And that's exactly what I think of Starmer.
I don't support Farage but he is no different to many MPs.
Trump exposed Starmer yesterday in a way the UK press have do far failed to do. He glitched, buffered and stuttered. Complete subordination to Trump and utterly unfit for office.

He’s no different to many MP’s? He definitely is. You don’t have to like Starmer and you’re entitled to be worried about issues that impact you, but Starmer and Farage aren’t even comparable. Your whole argument yesterday was that Starmer ran on populism… erm..hello? What do you think reform do? WTF??

And that they lie and gaslight and spread hate. I think this must be some kind of projection here because this isn’t making sense 😂 You criticise one party for doing the things that the party you’re voting for does 1000 times worse. You can hardly take the moral high ground there!

That's why I asked because the heavily edited BBC one was a long way from reality

I really cannot get my head around women voting for a party that clearly hates them.

Reform do not care about women, children or the disabled.

Labour couldn't care less about women, children, disabled, the uk population....

Miles from it. Edited to hide the true embarrassing performance from the PM

Neither do Labour! They couldn't define what a woman was until the courts told them the definition

We're talking about farage Vs Corbyn 😊

Not labour. Keep up.

Its precisely because Labour took the high ground ie grown ups back in charge, we don't lie etc that I can easily call them out now. Compete and utter hypocrisy.
They ran a campaign on being "better" yet once in power have quite predictably turned into what every MP does. They ran the election on a moral high ground but abandoned it for free concert tickets, made up CVs and private planes!

I will say this for the millionth time because obviously some people are hard of comprehension: the only alternative to Labour where I live is Reform. I want Labour out ergo........

And what will you do if they get elected, even just in your constituency and things get worse? Still worth it?

TruckDiver · 29/07/2025 12:24

They will be the architects of their own downfall. Farage doesn't even have to do much for next 4 years but sit back and watch.

Indeed. Does it not ring any alarm bells for you that that's how low your bar is to vote for him?

Of course it is possible it could get worse. But its going so badly at the moment that if we playing "play your cards right" voting seems like a similar risk to voting higher on a three. It's possible you could lose but not very likely.

I'm not voting for him. I will be voting for the only party who can oust Labour in my area

Yep it is. People voted for Hitler because he promised the world and was very popular, bet they regretted that though 😂 that’s democracy!! There are a hell of a lot of parallels between him and Farage, whether people choose to see it or not. People who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

brunettemic · 29/07/2025 12:30

I wouldn’t vote for either of them. Corbyn is a complete idiot. The reason the tories won that election was him, he was so blinkered that he couldn’t see his policies were nonsense and people wouldn’t vote for them, refused to take a position on Brexit and basically handed the election to them. He had a huge hand in the mess we’re all in.

I'm stopping this right there now. You are accusing me of voting for a Nazi so nothing more to say.
The more slurs you throw the more you turn people against you/the party you support. You may think you're being clever, you aren't!

It isn’t a slur, it’s a fact. Look it up and compare the two and how similar they are. The rhetoric is scarily similar, and Farage actually said on TV about a year or so ago that he’s a historian, so he would know exactly how they gained popularity and rose to power.

That is just scare mongering. It will be worse for some people - but only those who take all the handouts and don't contribute anything - these people couldn't have it any better than they do at the moment.

Some are regretting voting Labour already. And isn’t this Godwins Law.

TruckDiver · 29/07/2025 12:34

And that they lie and gaslight and spread hate. I think this must be some kind of projection here because this isn’t making sense 😂 You criticise one party for doing the things that the party you’re voting for does 1000 times worse.

This seems to be disturbingly common in contemporary political culture (I don't know whether it's a new thing or has always been there).

It was why people registered their objection to the liberal metropolitan elite image of the Labour party by voting for Working Class Hero Boris Johnson.

And prior to Trump's election I had a long argument with someone who insisted voting for him was a legitimate way to protest against the Democrats' position on Gaza. Turns out for Gazans, not so much.

It's like people have a finite amount of skepticism and critical thinking that they're capable of. Once they use it all up on rejecting something big from the mainstream (like one of the two main political parties that they and their families have always voted for), they don't have any left to apply to those claiming to be an alternative.

Or maybe it's just that facing the lack of a genuine alternative is too scary, so their emotional need to believe in something outweighs any rational need to look clearly at what that thing is.

It's absolutely ridiculous - there is only one leader who have been chucked out of a party for hating the Jewish people and it wasn't Farage.

It will be worse for all but Nigel's cronies, wait and see.

I won't be hanging around to find out, personally.

Isn't scaremongering Reform's raison d'être?

We're being invaded by fighting aged rapists! Our children aren't safe! They're all paedophiles! No more whites in 5 years! Muslims breed like rabbits! The fabric of society is breaking down! Chaos! Lawlessness! We're bankrupt! Scroungers! Foreigners, thousands of them! A stranger in our own land!

TruckDiver · 29/07/2025 12:42

It's not a question of being hard of comprehension. The statement is illogical.

The only rational reason to vote for a party (a) in order to get rid of party (b) is if you think party (a) will be better. Better at addressing what you want addressed (in this case immigration) and/or not creating bigger problems in other areas.

Simply saying that you want party (b) out so you'll vote for party (a) no matter what they say or do makes no sense. And that's not about Farage, Starmer, Corbyn, left vs right or anything else. It just makes no sense.
