Rainfall shower

I have just checked into an Airbnb. It’s lovely but just has a rainfall shower head, no side attachment. AIBU to think that this makes showering without hair washing, washing intimately and cleaning the shower impossible?! I have seen this before and found it annoying but obviously didn’t look closely enough at the listing!!

Yeah, my house came with a shower like that. Points 1 andc3 are the worst thing about it. I can manage point 2 as I don't wash internally.

You'll want to buy a shower cap...

holaquetal · 28/07/2025 16:09

Thank you! Style over substance!! Heading out to look for shower hat now!

In my experience men use the rainfall shower, women use the other detachment.

RampantIvy · 28/07/2025 16:10

I really dislike rainfall showers, yet they are promoted as a plus. I like a shower head that I can remove and direct around my body.

That's it in my house. Mainly because the men wash their hair every shower and I don't. I had o insist we had both.

femininomenon · 28/07/2025 16:14

Yeah I can’t stand rainfall showers! Or even worse when there is a separate detachable head but it’s got a bracket sort of thing attaching it to the main rainfall shower bit that means you can only actually move it a tiny amount.

We have a rainfall shower and I regularly use it without washing my hair! I also have a moveable attachment shower head but I literally only use that for rinsing the shower out; I don’t think I’ve ever washed with it!

Perpetuallywondering · 28/07/2025 16:19

YANBU! My ils have a rainfall shower and it’s rubbish. They have the other attachment too but that’s attached to the wall at about boob height and sprays horizontally. You can hold it and direct it, obviously - but then you can’t use both hands to wash yourself. I’m supposed to be impressed by it because it cost them a lot of money 🙄

SylvanianFamiliesBalcony · 28/07/2025 16:21

I haaaaate them. They're one of those daft ideas that sound all fancy on paper but in reality, are a miserable experience. I don't want water in my eyes. I don't want water and shampoo streaming all over my face. I do wash my hair every morning but I cba with stinging eyes!

Cavalierchaos · 28/07/2025 16:22

Ooh my partner has a rainfall shower and it's amazing. But I do have to stand half out of it, or bend slightly, if I don't want my hair getting wet.

CloudywMeatballs · 28/07/2025 16:25

I love a rainfall shower! I live in the US where there is usually just one overhead shower head. I've only ever come across the side attachments in the UK and always wondered what they were for!

HonoriaBulstrode · 28/07/2025 16:26

I don't like them either. Often find them in hotels. The problem I find is that they're often fixed too high on the wall so the water comes out at the wrong angle - wrong for a smallish woman anyway - and as pp said, one can't keep one's hair dry.

A conference centre I visit regularly has rainfall showers, but the shower head is fixed lower on the wall, so it's much easier to use.

Eerrnohun · 28/07/2025 16:27

It must have been designed by either a man or someone cheap - or both.

It’s a pet peeve of mine too.

FourBlackCats · 28/07/2025 16:28

YANBU, I can’t stand them. Having my bathroom done at the moment and having one put in for the benefit of whoever lives here next, I’ll be using the other attachment.

The bathroom designer (man) seemed surprised at my dislike!

WitchesofPainswick · 28/07/2025 16:29

I hate them. I like a nicely scrubbed undercarriage and I can't do it in those showers.

But on MN apparently everyone doesn't scrub that way, which baffles me, because I need a good hose down at the end of a day.

Panda89 · 28/07/2025 16:29

Ooo I have a rainfall shower and love it, I just use a shower cap when I don’t want to wash my hair! I love just standing under the water and relaxing.
it does have a handheld attachment also but I only ever use that for cleaning the shower.

afaloren · 28/07/2025 16:29

I hate rainfall showers! I hate any shower where you can’t move the shower head about. I don’t see the point.

Sahara123 · 28/07/2025 16:30

I love my rainfall shower ! I wash my hair every shower though . I used to wonder what they extra lower bit was for, now I know !

stayathomer · 28/07/2025 16:32

Shower cap and a crane of the neck lol! We have one and I hate it, hilarious that it’s seen as a luxury thing, it was cheaper than anything else and makes me miserable. We have a normal shower in our en suite that’s broken but we won’t be able to afford to fix it for a while

Mustbethat · 28/07/2025 16:34

I like them.

don’t want to wash my hair, tie it up and don’t put my head under.

washing internally? Who does that? I can wash everywhere fine.

shampoo in eyes? Never had that. You’re doing it wrong 😂

I do have a separate detachable head, mainly for when the dog needs a shower 😂

SwedishEdith · 28/07/2025 16:37

Oh, I hate them as well. Never understood why they're seen as desirable or luxurious.

I agree! Very hard to rinse nooks and crannies!!

OP didn’t say internally. She said intimately. 😂

Another shortarse here who doesn’t wash her hair everyday and doesn’t like rain showers. Only the men use rain shower here.

RacingDriver · 28/07/2025 16:46

Clearly I’m the odd one out - I love our rainfall shower and was the one who insisted we had it. I definitely would see it as a plus in a holiday place. My husband however much prefers a detachable one so we had to have both 🤣

TerminalMoraine · 28/07/2025 16:54

We stayed in a hotel recently which only had an overhead shower. No shower cap so I had to improvise with a carrier bag. I don’t like showers which are overhead only as I don’t feel I can wash my undercarriage properly. Luckily it was only 2 nights.
