Rainfall shower

I have just checked into an Airbnb. It’s lovely but just has a rainfall shower head, no side attachment. AIBU to think that this makes showering without hair washing, washing intimately and cleaning the shower impossible?! I have seen this before and found it annoying but obviously didn’t look closely enough at the listing!!

I was so happy when the designer talked me out of one when we were doing our remodel. I had not thought about the problem of not hair washing every shower. She said her female clients inevitably hated them and often called to have them replaced within weeks.

ShelfObsessed · 28/07/2025 21:10

I love them.

Absolutely annoying. That's why I got a detachable one as well as the rainfall one for the bathroom.

Getting new wet room installed downstairs soon and will be getting same again. Can't do without detachable head! Perfect for washing shower/bath area.

mamagogo1 · 28/07/2025 21:11

I like them but I don’t shower and not wash my hair

Panda89 · 28/07/2025 21:11

I need some diagrams to understand how people use a rainfall shower without getting their hair wet.
I wash my hair pretty much every shower so it’s never been an issue for me.

RandomMess · 28/07/2025 21:12

@Livpoolis the rainfall head angled rather than the water being only straight down?

elliesmummy19 · 28/07/2025 21:13

Ah we got our bathroom refurbished last year and got a rainfall shower installed and I love it, use it every time I shower. It does have a detachable head too though.

Our last shower was a rubbish electric thing with no oomph so maybe I’m just happy for an upgrade!

mamagogo1 · 28/07/2025 21:14

Silly question, why do you need a detachable shower to clean it? I use a cloth personally, and I have a detachable shower head, never use it for cleaning

Summerbay23 · 28/07/2025 21:18

Hate them. Impossible to shower without washing hair and I’m another one who likes to rinse my undercarriage. Also makes it hard to clean the shower for the next user as can’t easily rinse away any blobs of shampoo or hair on wall.

PickAChew · 28/07/2025 21:20

We have one. Been here almost 8 years and have never used it. I like to be able to clean myself from all angles without constant water on my face so we use the shower over the bath, instead.

Alltheyellowbirds · 28/07/2025 21:24

I love rainfall showers! I don’t have one but I never pick up my normal head and move it about my body as people have described, I just stand under it. If I don’t want to wash my hair I put it up in a clip and don’t stick my head under, works fine.

No it is straight down - maybe I shower weirdly?! I don’t stand directly under it unless rinsing my hair - maybe that is it?

We do have the other attachment but I tend to only use that as a last rinse it I have used a hair mask or to rinse the shower off at the end.

My very tall son loves out rainfall shower. I mostly use the microphone one (we have both). He’s often found that the microphone ones don’t go high enough. I only detach the microphone to rinse the cubicle down.
The rainfall head unscrews for descaling (but I’m getting a softener soon so hopefully won’t have to descale so often).

HorrorFan81 · 28/07/2025 21:42

Finding this fascinating! We have a rainfall shower and a hose attachment. I regularly shower without washing my hair under the rainfall shower I find it really easy. Only ever use the hose attachment if I am cleaning the shower

And the designer didn't think to advise them to get the standard rainfall with detachable smaller shower?

anyzee · 28/07/2025 21:49

Regarding the water pressure being important for rainfall showers, it is. There is a minimum T bar pressure required for them to work properly. So the booklet said when I was choosing mine. the plumber said it would work fine (it's a dual one with detachable head) as I had a high pressure pump already.

RandomMess · 28/07/2025 21:50

I don’t even get my face wet in the shower 😂

catsand · 28/07/2025 22:39

I don’t understand why so many women apparently find it impossible to use a rainfall shower without getting their hair wet? I tie my hair back and don’t put my head under the water, it’s not difficult.

Same!

Ok so let's visualise the situation.

I'm facing a rainfall shower.
There is a straight line of water pouring down in front of me.
If I walk forward, my nipples and my nose will touch the water line at the same time (small boobs!)

How do I get my body wet without running the water over my face or bending my neck backwards?
Do I turn sideways and have one shoulder in the water, and my head and over half my body out of it? I don't get it!

I don't get it either. The only way to not get my head/hair wet would be to bend my neck far forward or far back, which sounds like the complete opposite of a wonderful, tranquil, rain forest experience, rather a (literal) pain in the neck!

Yes exactly! I’m going to test it in the morning but really cannot imagine how to make it work.
The shower head is really high, like full arm extension to touch it so way above my head.

Same. I can just about reach mine (to poke bits of limescale off, or angle so it's not spraying water straight over the top of the cubicle) and I'm 5'8".

nocoolnamesleft · 28/07/2025 23:48

Hate rainfall (or any other fixed) showers. Never feel clean.

EternalNeau · 29/07/2025 00:19

I don’t understand what is so difficult about putting your head back.
Surely you do that under the water when you wash and rinse your hair so you just do it the other way when you want your hair to stay dry.
