Rainfall shower

I have just checked into an Airbnb. It’s lovely but just has a rainfall shower head, no side attachment. AIBU to think that this makes showering without hair washing, washing intimately and cleaning the shower impossible?! I have seen this before and found it annoying but obviously didn’t look closely enough at the listing!!

Agree! When we put a new bathroom in, we got a rainfall and a wall mounted. DH wanted a rainfall, I wanted the wall mounted. You can also use them both at the same time, if that tickles your fancy. I can't stand getting my face wet by having water run down from my hair over my eyes etc., and I only wash my hair once or twice a week, so I only use a wall mounted. Really hate when I stay in hotels and they only have rainfalls. Now our children are older (both girls), they will only use the wall mounted too.

In my experience men use the rainfall shower, women use the other detachment.

That’s certainly true in my house. I’m the only female and the only one who uses the detachment. Need to angle it to wash my hair properly!

ELCismyspiritnana · 28/07/2025 19:49

All those saying they cant use the waterfall without getting their hair wet, do you shower facing away from the shower head?
I shower facing the wall and can use the rainfall head without getting my hair wet no problem at all.

ccridersuz · 28/07/2025 20:02

Love my rain shower, living in Greece it’s a blessing. My hubby hates it because I can spend up to 30minutes under it, I know every bit of me is clean.

Rizzz · 28/07/2025 20:06

Love my rainfall shower but also love the attachment shower for rinsing or having a quick shower without a hair wash.

Plumnora · 28/07/2025 20:11

YANBU! I hate them!!!! How are you supposed to wash properly? They honestly remind me of prison or hospital showers. And clearly designed by a man!

VerityUnreasonble · 28/07/2025 20:12

I like our rainfall shower but it does have a smaller (height adjustable / detachable) shower head that i use if I just want a quick body wash. The only issue is if switching between the two shower heads you have to hide in the corner of the shower for a few seconds until the cold water thats left over in the pipes is clear, otherwise it's a bit of a shock for a moment.

OtherS · 28/07/2025 20:13

Definitely need the detachable, don't feel clean if I can't properly wash my undercarriage. Do also love a rainfall when washing my hair, but even then I only want it running when I rinse, very annoying if it's still pouring out on top of my head when I'm letting the conditioner do its thing - find myself doing weird backbends to avoid it, which doesn't feel like the indulgent shower experience the rainfall's supposed to provide!

Always assumed that it must be a 'bloody man' who'd been in charge of the design when there's only the overhead and that they didn't realise women needed the moveable handset, actually surprised to find that's not the case. How do you wash properly between the legs? You can't rinse off the soap, unless you're all doing some very impressive contortions?!

The rainfall shower head is directly above, so you can’t chose to face it/not face it

PonkyPonky · 28/07/2025 20:21

We have both, the detachable head is only used for cleaning the shower. I shower without washing my hair all the time and I have never struggled to keep my hair dry. Just clip it or tie it up?

FartyAnimal · 28/07/2025 20:23

We have a rainfall shower. I shower all the time without washing my hair. It's easy.

Lucyccfc68 · 28/07/2025 20:24

I have recently just renovated my bathroom. My DS wanted a Rainfall shower and I wanted a wall mounted one. So we went for both.

I quite like both now as they can both be angled and the wall mounted one can be moved up or down, angled and taken off the bracket.

There is so much choice, it’s just about choosing the right shower for you.

anyzee · 28/07/2025 20:25

I don't know what you are all on about. This house has a dual rainfall and detachable "ordinary" shower head. I never use the rainfall but DP does. Using the "ordinary" one is fine, it is high up enough to have a nice shower and the height can be adjusted, it can be taken from the holder for the "bits" and all is good.

Maybe the fact that our shower unit is long not square gives more leeway or something? Maybe that helps. Oh and I went for it when I got the shower done, nice big niche for the shampoos and other goodies (at an angle to let the drips flow down), a footrest for the shaving of the legs, and a seat for when I get older and can't stand up lol 😊

The point is that there’s no detachable ordinary head!

I’m so glad that every post I’ve read also thinks the same (that these rainfall showers are just not good). I think they are designed and installed by men and it’s so annoying to find that your hotel room only has a rainfall shower. I have long hair and I don’t want to get it soaked every time I have a shower. Grrr.

AsburyPark · 28/07/2025 20:39

I love our rainfall shower! Love standing under the water at the end of a long day. We’ve got the detachable shower head too but it never gets used apart from cleaning the shower out.

Also easily manage to not wash my hair in it if I want to, and to step out of it when I’ve got conditioner on, probably helped by it being a walk in so there’s space.

I actually feel a bit disappointed if I go somewhere with a regular shower now, it just doesn’t hit the same!

swapsicles · 28/07/2025 20:43

I encountered a rainfall shower at a campsite recently, super high pressure and hot but because I didn't want to wash my hair I had to lean my head out of it in other to wash the rest of me, didn't bring a shower cap!
At home I have a normal attachment on the wall pointing at an angle so I stand with it pointing at my boobs then turn like a rotisserie chicken to get water everywhere. If I step closer I can wash my hair, step back and that gets water where it's needed, rainfall showers are not relaxing, to me anyway.

Sounds like we might have the same one.

The smaller one is also great for showering my dogs 😁

Ah you'll manage. Stick a shower cap on yer head, and use a jug or other receptacle to rinse the bits. Or lie on the floor of the shower and stick your legs up against the wall or something. Go on, the exercise will do you good 😀

OnTheBoardwalk · 28/07/2025 20:48

Does it actually cost much more to get a shower with rainfall and detachable? Have options

I got one with both as part of refurb. Couldn’t do without the detachable bit for a proper clean of me and the bath

Straightjacketsandroses · 28/07/2025 20:49

Mustbethat · 28/07/2025 17:17

See I find the opposite. Rainfall showers provide enough water flow to rinse easily.

no way could I hold a shower head, and shave at the same time.

I agree!! I don’t understand all these posts saying you need a detachable shower head to wash properly and shave… I can wash really well in my shower because the water pressure is great and it comes out really fast; I don’t need to physically spray every part of me! I don’t have big boobs though or a tummy so perhaps it’s more suited to those of us with the body of a 12 year old 🤣

britinnyc · 28/07/2025 20:56

I love my rainfall shower and am very confused as to how people say they can’t wash and rinse everything with it. Maybe it is down to water pressure, as long as there is enough pressure it is easy to clean everything. Even when I have had a detachable shower I have never felt the need to detach it and shower that way and all parts of me are clean and washed!

RandomMess · 28/07/2025 21:00

They are awful and if you are short arse like me the water is not warm enough by the time it reaches you and you can’t wash the bottom half of you properly.

I have an amazing shower cap, strong elastic and thick. Never found the same one as good again.

Good quality ones have both plus multiple options for varying water pressure. I assume many posters are talking about the cheap options.

We have a rainfall shower and I regularly use it without washing my hair! I also have a moveable attachment shower head but I literally only use that for rinsing the shower out; I don’t think I’ve ever washed with it!

I am just thinking this myself!

I wear a shower cap if not washing my (long) hair but it doesn’t get soaked. I only stand under the waterfall directly if am rinsing my hair.
I am confused what I seem to be doing differently than most
