Rainfall shower

holaquetal · 28/07/2025 16:05

I have just checked into an Airbnb. It’s lovely but just has a rainfall shower head, no side attachment. AIBU to think that this makes showering without hair washing, washing intimately and cleaning the shower impossible?! I have seen this before and found it annoying but obviously didn’t look closely enough at the listing!!

I don’t understand what is so difficult about putting your head back.
Surely you do that under the water when you wash and rinse your hair so you just do it the other way when you want your hair to stay dry.

When I’m washing my hair I stand straight.
When I’m not washing my hair using the microphone head I just slide it lower down the shaft and still stand straight.
It’s angled so I do lean my head back while rinsing to make sure it’s 100% clean bit that’s only for about 30 seconds probably.

Panda89 · 29/07/2025 07:45

So I tested it this morning, I could get the front of my body wet if I arch my back but to get my back wet would have to hunch forwards and it would still get my hairline wet.

When I rinse my hair I just stand straight upright btw, don’t tilt my head back or anything.

swapsicles · 29/07/2025 07:58

I think a few people are getting mixed up between rainfall showers - a large shower head attached to the ceiling so the water comes straight down like a pipe in the middle of the cubicle and a rainfall shower head that can be angled.
I'd love one of those showers that had multiple heads that would go from the neck downwards, I'd obviously wash my face but wouldn't feel waterboarded!

VeryStressedMum · 29/07/2025 08:27

We have a rainfall type in the main bathroom, it's not fixed to the ceiling but on a pipe coming from the tap if that make sense. but it also has a detachable attachment shower with a long hose I wouldn't have got one without it

EternalNeau · 29/07/2025 11:10

Mind blown by people washing their hair standing straight under the shower.
Doesn’t it take ages to get all your hair wet?
Isn’t it difficult to fully lather your hair under running water?
Then once you finally lather up doesn’t all the water and product run into your face and eyes?

Why do you think it would takes ages to get all your hair wet if you are standing straight underneath running water? Surely that's pretty much the most efficient way to get it wet, no?

But yes, I agree with your other points, and that's why I don't use the rainforest head, I like to move around, or move the regular shower head up or down, or direct it etc. So when I'm lathering, I'll point it at my neck, then raise it higher to rinse.

DiscoBeat · 29/07/2025 11:23

We have one and I'm able to get my head out of it on non hair wash days. But we do have a side attachment which we use for cleaning, it would be a pain without that.

DangerousAlchemy · 29/07/2025 11:38

Straightjacketsandroses · 28/07/2025 16:16

We have a rainfall shower and I regularly use it without washing my hair! I also have a moveable attachment shower head but I literally only use that for rinsing the shower out; I don’t think I’ve ever washed with it!

yeah same. I just use a shower cap 🤷‍♀️

Livpool · 29/07/2025 11:57

catsand · 28/07/2025 22:39

I don’t understand why so many women apparently find it impossible to use a rainfall shower without getting their hair wet? I tie my hair back and don’t put my head under the water, it’s not difficult.

Same! I can’t imagine why it is so difficult!

RampantIvy · 29/07/2025 12:37

I would not be able to stand up straight in the shower in my hotel under the rainfall shower there as it is flat to the ceiling. I would have to bend around to not get my hair wet.

I forgot my shower cap so I used the hand one instead.

Well obviously a shower cap solves the issue. I'm presuming OP didn't pack a shower cap.
People are a bit confused how some are managing to enjoy standing under a rainforest shower head and not get their hair wet just by (apparently) leaning their head forward or back, that doesn't sound comfortable.

I am so jealous that so many of you seem to have rainfall showers. I've only come across them a handful of times in my life and I love them. Are they really that common in the UK, or does it mean something else there than it does here in the US? Here's what I mean by a rainfall shower

@CloudywMeatballsso our shower head looks like that, big square thing, you stand under it and your whole body gets wet, there's a tiny corner of the shower cubicle I can just about squish into to avoid getting wet (but even by MN standards I am quite little, I suspect DH has nowhere to hide). However, it's attached to a pipe which also has the little shower attached to to it. The big square rainfall head is about 1ft below ceiling height, I can't actually reach it (but again, small person). The smaller shower I think would probably adjust to a max height of about 6ft, but is also detachable so you could hold it up higher than that if you really wanted.

Yes this describes mine too, although it is round, probably 30cm diameter. I can reach it on my tiptoes fully stretched.

in a hotel if not provided in the room if you ring down housekeeping will drop in for you

Echlefecker · 29/07/2025 15:11

I like to wash underneath (not inside). They are not for me. I never used the rainfall but of ours

Yes that’s what we mean. I have one like this (although the shower fitting is round and gold, no LED lighting); it comes out of the ceiling. It’s literally my favourite thing ever (and I don’t wash my hair every shower, and all my body parts are clean 😳) - it’s just fabulous to stand under! I think some people though are assuming you need to stand right underneath them like this picture, or have your head at a weird angle to avoid getting wet hair; I just stand to one side of the ‘rainfall’ and the water goes down my back and over my shoulders! Our shower is quite large though so I can step out of the water if I’m shaving or whatever

Maybe the real issue is that the shower stalls are too small! You definitely need a decent sized space around you with a rainfall shower, so that you can pick and choose which parts of you are under the water at a given time.

I can stand straight under the shower for ages and the top gets wet but the underneath will stay dry. I have to put move my head around a lot to get the underneath wet, I do have very thick hair though.
When DH wanted a rainfall shower I insisted on one with a separate handheld shower head after reading so many threads on here about it being impossible to wash your hair with just the top bit. However I don’t find it a problem at all, I mostly use the handheld bit for rinsing the shower door or cooling my feet without getting the rest of me wet on a really hot day!

pinkpony88 · 29/07/2025 19:27

Ours is one of my favourite bits of the house and I hate it when I don’t have one on holiday. However, we do have the detachable bit too and the main rainfall shower head also tilts so I tilt it back slightly if I’m not washing my hair.

Oldraver · 29/07/2025 19:47

WitchesofPainswick · 28/07/2025 16:29

I hate them. I like a nicely scrubbed undercarriage and I can't do it in those showers.

But on MN apparently everyone doesn't scrub that way, which baffles me, because I need a good hose down at the end of a day.

I agree this ys why I don't like rainfalls, my DS has very long hair and doesn't wash it every shower and he dislikes them

I also like a good undercarriage scrub ON THE OUTSIDE, I think lots of people mistake washing outside/inside. The outer bits for me, certainly need a bit of a decent clean

I agree! Very hard to rinse nooks and crannies!!

I hate them and I prefer a sit in a bath to soak those nooks and crannies that any shower cannot reach, least of all a rainfall shower!

Good lord, how engrained in grime are your nooks and crannies such that they need a good soak!

Foodoverload · 30/07/2025 10:37

I love mine and shower often without getting my hair wet. I do have side attachment but only use it to rise the shower.

DP hates it and feels he is getting tortured by water. He can’t have his face under the shower. Only told me thst when we refurb the en-suite.
