America democratically elects an adjudicate rapist who sympathises with racists, hates women and will do anything to hang onto power. The UK and it's lickspitrlw leader fawn over Trump and says that Israel has rhe right to cut off food and water to Gaza. Then wairs a year watching children die before saying it is intolerable. Except he is tolerating it.We all are.
The West is pumping out carbon at a vast rate and will no doubt reject the flood of refugees that this will cause.
The West takes more than it's fair share of the world's wealth. Much of the West is based on colonial exploration and murder of the global south.
I used to think we were the good guys.
We are not. We are one of the worst things ever to happen to the planet and it's inhabitants.

Yes I think the West is morally bankrupt but not for the reasons the op mentioned. I am extremely proud of the amazing architecture, law system, inventions, great leaders and other aspects of history. But these were all grounded and inspired by Christianity and our leaders (and many/most people) are now immoral, put themselves first, are entitled and are ignorant of our history and the legacy and tenets of Christianity. I feel now like we are a load of ignorant barbarians living in the ruins of a great civilisation.

I actually agree with this and I think it’s why people go on about WW2 so much because it’s the one time we were clearly the good guys so people really like to hang their hat on it to the point where I know people who believe we got into ww2 to prevent the persecution of Jews. Some people have no idea that we didn’t really care about it at all and were fairly anti-Semitic here in the 1930s too.

Also we’d think it was mental if Germans didn’t learn about the holocaust or if South Africans didn’t learn about Apartheid but teaching of British history is absolutely shite at addressing all of our fuck ups and every time we try to change it, it gets criticised as ‘woke’ - as if knowing your own history is a bad thing. People have no clue really of our role in the troubles in Ireland, in Gaza/Isreal in 1948, in setting up concentration camps in Africa, in the scramble for Africa, in partitioning Pakistan and India, in millions of people that have died in the Bengal famine and other similar famines in India which were exacerbated by British policy placing profit over well-being. People have no clue and pootle around thinking ww2 is a slice of a bigger picture where we go around being the civilising force I. The world. It’s a clear example of miseducation/patriotism dumbing down a populace and making them easier to manipulate imo.

And just to be clear I don’t think kids should be taught that Britain is shit. I think you should teach a clear picture where people know the good things we did and the bad. But I am very against the teaching if ‘British values’ I think that’s an absolute joke!

For me it's less that the west is awful or worse than the countries we colonised and more that we claim the moral high ground and use our wealth and power to punish whoever we like if they are not adhering to whatever we have decided is "moral" today. We behave like arseholes but pretend we don't. I can't stand the hypocrisy.

I love discussing colonialism, the Mongol, Zulu and moorish empires are never mentioned... only the western. The Aztec and Inca ones also are looked at benignly...yet ran on slavery and human sacrifice. The white slave trade in North Africa dwarfs that of the slavery in the USA.

yes at least 10% of the UK population would struggle financially even if they were good at money management but they are still significantly better off than most of the rest of the world

Yes, I agree what’s happening in Gaza is appalling and sickening, but why are the West responsible more than say, the neighbouring Arab nations, China, India or Russia?

The idea that the West is the only possible beacon of righteousness in the world, to the extent that we don’t even consider other countries’ responsibilities, is actually a pretty imperialist mindset, albeit a warped one.

As someone who's family comes from a country that was "colonised" I use the word terroriised and raped! I can see the long lasting affects. The people of the country and even the leaders have Stockholm syndrome. They are so traumatised that they now admire their terrorist invaders and rapers. It is sad and deeply disturbing. I hear the stories from my great grandparents who resisted terrorism in their home lands and rejected invasion and even martyred in the cause. But how my grandparents generation and parents and so fourth were broken so badly that they kind of brush over the whole thing. Even forced into parking into WWI 2 great uncles served and even my grandfathers uncle. Forced and imprisoned if they refused. The first WW was a farce and only to dismantle the ottoman empire. The 2nd had nothing to do with us either but my country were dragged into it out of terrorism.

Our terrorists were the French and Spanish and to this day these same people will express and flex their historical terrorism to my face. The only reason we are better off than alot of the rest of the world is because of our previous Christian culture (as I explained above), and as we are losing/have lost that culture we are plummeting down the gdp per capita table (I think we are now at no 25 down from near the top and being overtaken by Eastern Europe which used to be a poor area when I was young because of their culture- communism). People in the UK are very entitled but once the economy collapses which it will this will change.

Even taking the Orange Monster into account, “The West” (whatever that is…) is no more immoral than, say, some Arab or African countries, or North Korea, Russia and China. Some countries are powerful and dominant and this changes over time…it’s called history. In this century we’re already seeing the decline of “The West” and the unstoppable rise of China.
