To think The West is morally bankrupt

America democratically elects an adjudicate rapist who sympathises with racists, hates women and will do anything to hang onto power. The UK and it's lickspitrlw leader fawn over Trump and says that Israel has rhe right to cut off food and water to Gaza. Then wairs a year watching children die before saying it is intolerable. Except he is tolerating it.We all are.
The West is pumping out carbon at a vast rate and will no doubt reject the flood of refugees that this will cause.
The West takes more than it's fair share of the world's wealth. Much of the West is based on colonial exploration and murder of the global south.
I used to think we were the good guys.
We are not. We are one of the worst things ever to happen to the planet and it's inhabitants.

Don’t you ever get tired of the relentless agenda pushing about small boats? It’s so predictable and lazy.

Ha! You think one comment means I relentlessly push an agenda? Just more ridiculous dramatics.
I just think rather than constant self flagulation for crimes some men committed in the past, or to shoulder blame for how Americans vote, we need to show a little more gratitude for how lucky we are to live in a country where women are free and equal, where we have free speech (mostly), inclusion and tollerance, where we have free health care and education, clean water etc. Instead all I see is spoilt brats with their iphones and new build houses, whining about how bad white people/the west/Europe etc is whilst enjoying the freedoms it gives them.

Put your money where your mouth is, if it's so terrible, move.

Thricewomen · 27/07/2025 10:48

People move all the time. People move to this country, people emigrate to other countries. This is quite common.

People may need to put in the work they need to achieve this, but that is surely worth it to move from an evil 'oppressor' country to a paradise 'victim' country, full of human rights, a highly regulated police force and rule of law.

You can’t “just move”. You have to meet entry criteria. Have certain skills or qualifications. Be a certain age. Have family links, and a certain amount of money in the bank. Have a job offer.

Yabu if you ever thought the world was as binary as "West = good guys, East = bad guys". There's a great deal right, and wrong, about both - if you expand your knowledge of East v West beyond the US and UK. Whole swathes of Europe, for example, plenty of Nordic states seem to do ok with their responsibilities to both their own citizens and treatment of other nations. If you're looking at pollution, then you've missed out China. I couldn't agree more with your assessment of the US President, but I don't think Afghanistan or Iran are great bastions of human rights, either.

If you're looking for one common denominator, then you'd well to look at who exactly is running all these countries - East and West. How many are women?

Margaret Thatcher was a woman. Imelda Marcos was a woman. I think it’s time people stopped pretending women in power would automatically be hugely different from, or better than, men in power. It takes a certain personality-type to be attracted to positions of power, after all.

Thricewomen · 27/07/2025 10:53

Its this sort of lazy response that meant valid concerns about levels of immigration, concentrated in some communities, and the impact it had, were ignored as 'agenda pushing'.

Alternatively, it’s this sort of lazy generalization of those that seek to come here that means we can’t have a reasonable conversation about the topic.

Blimey, you don’t understand much do you? I would love to move and am trying very hard to do so, but it’s nowhere near the simple process you insist it is.

No you don't need all these things all the time. People manage to move countries. They look at ways to emigrate, with what they already have or work to achieve what they need. Its not some impossible dream. There are a lot of countries outside the evil West.

Vaxtable · 27/07/2025 11:03

had a look at what’s going on in Asia recently? Middle East? It’s not just the west

Well, when women have been either banned from education and work or else sidelined in favour of someone without a uterus it’s hard to judge.

Is it your position that women, had they had all the advantages of a man, would not have been capable of equalling the inventions of men?

Yes, that is very much my contention. We have evolved to be better at different things. Men also make better front line soldiers. Women are better at nurturing, men are more inventive (and before the hard of thinking say anything I know there are exceptions, I'm talking generalisations). It is well known that the normal distribution for intelligence is such that there are more male geniuses, but also more men with very low intelligence. Get over it.

No, because other countries have restrictions on the boarders too, just like the evil West, weird huh? But to move to the UAE for example, you just need a job, so get applying!

I wouldn’t feel too guilty about it. Those feelings will become a luxury that we can’t really afford. I think the West is in decline and we will be at the mercy of other nation’s moral bankruptcy.

I think your stance is a little patronising and complacent.

Yep and those in line with op are part of the issue. Undervaluing what we have until it’ll be gone anyway.

It’s a luxury to post as op does, we might not always have it.

Apologies, I haven’t done a full scale analysis of the immigration policy for every single country. I appreciate that’s clearly unreasonable on my part!

Edited

You are completely incorrect. You don’t “just need a job” to move to the UAE.

Menopausalsourpuss · 27/07/2025 11:14

Yes I agree @EasternStandard . We have reached the stage of late capitalism or whatever you want to call it that people are so entitled and spolit they think things will always be the same. Also so naive that they think the rest of the world thinks like them and just let our enemies walk all over us. Meanwhile Islam or China are ready to take over.

Kendodd · 27/07/2025 11:17

Are we lucky OP that we can live in a place where we are completely free to loudly and publicly slag off are own government and country.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 27/07/2025 11:17

ClareBlue · 27/07/2025 02:25

Every country is morally bankrupt in the world apart from North Macedonia, who are cool. Apart from giving Genghis Khan to the world, but that can be overlooked as his daddy was distant and that impacted on his emotional development.

😂

Well I've never looked to move there, so maybe that's so, but many countries in the east are far easier than others, and UAE is ranked as an easier place to move to, especially for Brits. I see plenty of people moving from East to West, maybe westerners are just too lazy to put the work in to get a visa and move?

No you don't.
Just rock up in a small boat and claim asylum. Tell them you're escaping the evil West and I'm sure they sympathise.

Yes there are those who are happy to take up a new position. Given the weapons amassed by one in particular we’ll have to hope they are relatively benign and won’t use similar systems to control what is said.

The anti west sentiment whilst enjoying those freedoms is the ultimate luxury, that may not last. People shouldn’t undervalue it.

No “maybe” about it. There are several other non-negotiable stipulations. If you can’t meet certain criteria, no amount of hard work will change that.

HerewardtheSleepy · 27/07/2025 11:22

First, define what you mean by "morally bankrupt".
Second what is the "West" doing that in previous ages has not been done by other dominant groups of nations/empires?
YABU and you need to read more history IMO.

HerewardtheSleepy · 27/07/2025 11:23

WaverleyOwl · 27/07/2025 00:28

You are woefully ill informed.

Agree totally.

Wareart · 27/07/2025 11:24

North Macedonia is very nice to money launderers.

If you're going to assign moral values to countries (and I'm not sure how useful that is) all countries are compromised, all leaders are compromised. A country that is only and has only been ever kind and charitable will not thrive. No one wants to live like the child who has his lunch money stolen every day.

Like? Its not the only place in the East though either way, seems Westeners just need to put more work in if they really want to move out of the evil West.
