What happened to the laughing face emoji response?

I am sorry if there was a thread on this already that I've not found.

The laughing face emoji private response was so good. I could use it to laugh at something funny or at something totally idiotic. Multi purpose.

Where oh where and why has it gone?

AIBU to want it back?

I miss it!

Bring it back and make reactions visible to everyone. There’ll be much less chance of it being misused and any posters who do should be dealt with individually.

MNHQ already get tired of all the posts that are reported, they’re not going to want to police laugh emoji use.

Why not just reply to a post and 😂?

Like I said, if the reactions were visible to everyone the chance of it being misused would be much less.

People could also choose to ignore them.

If being visible hasn’t stopped people from writing nasty posts, why would emojis being visible stop them from misusing them?

CommissarySushi · 22/07/2025 13:32

"Misuse" of emojis is a ridiculous claim imo.

Kellywiththelegs · 22/07/2025 13:33

MeringueOutang · 22/07/2025 10:26

It was used to laugh at someone who was actively suicidal so MN pulled it.

Why should everyone else be punished for one posters actions? Ban the poster who did it.

Because that clogs up the thread and I enjoyed letting posters know that I found their post witty and funny!

TheEndlessNight · 22/07/2025 13:35

It was a sad day on mumsnet the day the 🤣 went 😢 a very sad day indeed! 😢

And yet it’s the reason MNHQ retired it.

Yes, and it's a ridiculous reason 😂

But keeping the laugh emoji would likely clog up MNHQ’s inbox by all the people reporting misuse.

Kellywiththelegs · 22/07/2025 13:38

If you can’t cope with a laughing emoji no matter the way it’s used you really shouldn’t be on here at all.

See, you can use the laugh emoji, you don’t need it the reaction reinstated Smile

Whilst clogging up the thread unnecessarily.

Of course I don't need it. It was still a good feature imo!

SmurfnoffIce · 22/07/2025 14:00

A few cry babies got Mumsnet confused with Mummy. And Mummy caved.

Yet if @CommissarySushi had used the laughing reaction instead you’d have probably reported them to MNHQ for misuse.

I wouldn’t even know how to report someone for emoji misuse 😂

But some people must be managing it!

People clog up threads with one word posts like ‘Placemarking’, how is this any different.

There's a bookmark button for that too.

Did you intend this to be ironic, as you're basically whinging that mummy took away your toys.
