To have screamed at DH about the eyedrops?

ThatsABitExcessive · 17/07/2025 06:27

Last year DH and I got sore itchy hayfever eyes. I bought some drops. A few days later DH came home and announced that we had been doing the eye drops wrong - Shiela from work had told him that rather than dropping it directly into the eye - you should drop it onto the corner of your nose and let the liquid roll into your eye. I said I disagreed with Shiela and would continue doing it properly my way.

He spent all summer doing it Sheila’s way.

Now yesterday I bought some more drops as we’re struggling again. DH said to me “don’t forget, it’s corner of the nose and let it run in”

I screamed and said that’s stupid! Just drop it into the bloody eye like a normal person!! He continues to say I’m doing it wrong and last night I had to sit and watch him dropping these bloody drops onto his face with his eyes closed!!??

The most annoying bit about it - Sheila has no medical experience. I’m an ex-qualified nurse - yet DH takes Sheila’s word as gospel!

You”screamed” at him?! Weird overreaction.

My DH has to have eye drops, as does my daughter, and they were told by their eye doctor to do it the way "Sheila" has suggested - eyes closed, into the corner of the eye, and then blink.
Just as a side note on eye drops though, be very very cautious which ones you buy. Some of them can make your eyes a lot worse due to the preservatives and ingredients in them so you've got to be careful as it can make your eyes work. If you can, find an eye doctor or optician who'll be able to prescribe something better than you can get off the shelf.

Sheila suggested corner of the nose, not corner of the eye. Sheila is wrong (or has been misunderstood). Your eye doctor is correct.

PinkCherryPie · 17/07/2025 10:55

Sheila's way is how someone medical years ago taught me to put them in too. Well corner of eye near the nose, not directly on the nose itself (perhaps DH misunderstood this part?).

I wouldn't tell someone that's how to put them in, versus any other approach, but equally I wouldn't scream at someone who told me that's how to do it.

Just do it any way that works for you.

Passwordsaremynemesis · 17/07/2025 10:58

Just get the ones that you spray on your closed eyelid. They work beautifully.

FOJN · 17/07/2025 11:05

The pair of you sound nuts, how are you managing to disagree about eye drops to the point that screaming is involved.

If you've calmly explained why Sheila is wrong but he continues to use her method then you'll have to let him get on with it. If he tells you you're doing it wrong just ignore him.

OhNoMyChocMelted · 17/07/2025 11:10

Your way is right. However I was told with ds they can go in the corner if ds doesn't come operate. As most kids don't. Not an adult

Ex nurse

did you scream at a patient and then sacked for misconduct Op?

No I gave nursing up as my tolerance for stupidity hit critical levels.

It is really important that people don’t share eyedrops.

Buy 2 new bottles.

Why? You drip it, there should be no contact between yhe nossle and the eye, is not like you put it in eye pick it up then put it back in the bottle to use later.

I wasn’t sacked, I’m actually still registered - I just choose not to nurse anymore and will be letting my registration lapse this year

Are we sure that is what Sheila said and it isn’t your DH mishearing

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/07/2025 11:25

I have read all the OP 's posts. I can't imagine two people getting so worked up about such a small thing. You are both being unreasonable and YABU to scream. Just do your own eyedrops your own way. (Personally, I agree with the OP but couldn't be bothered to fight over it)

Currymaker · 17/07/2025 11:26

Why doesn't he just read the patient leaflet that comes with the drops and do it that way?

FamilyPhoto · 17/07/2025 11:27

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 17/07/2025 10:35

Sheila is correct though.

No she isnt.

zingally · 17/07/2025 11:27

To be fair, putting eye drops in the corner of the eye is actually the recommended way to do certain drops - mostly the medicated ones. I have an eye condition, so have a lot of experience with many different types of drops.
I suspect Shelia actually said something like that, and DH has butchered it in his interpretation. Because in no world is any medical professional telling you to put the drop on your nose and let it roll in. That's weird.

Nah op

you were sacked for screaming at a patient for being “stupid”

and you don’t work with the public now you say? Was that court ordered?

Slimtoddy · 17/07/2025 11:46

I had a realisation recently that some people just love to tell people what to do. Sounds like Shelia is one of those people and so is your DH. It's an ego thing I suspect.

Do you really not see that it’s the OP that “loves to tell people what to do”

Sheila (god love her) made a suggestion
The DH followed it.

the op had a screaming frenzy In response

To be honest, (although you're making things up again, Arnold,) I think nurses should be allowed to scream at idiots. Might make them think.

So he’d let an eye drop roll over his dirty face and into his eye? Weird.
why are you screaming at him though???

Dramatic much!

corner of his eye into his eye is not 'all over his dirty face* 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

@ThatsABitExcessive

i don't think screaming is on. But I'm a quiet person 😂 I'd certainly be telling him I think 'Sheila' the admin/HR/cleaner/whatever is what you'd call an expert on eye drops & that I as a nurse might just have more of a fucking clue!! But best to pop into SpecSavers/pharmacy next time he's near one & ask them.

then TRY not to watch him!

TRY also to ignore the rude goady fuckers!
it's a shame you've left nursing, but I can totally understand why!!

Empress13 · 17/07/2025 11:55

Sheila needs to go to spec savers 🤣
