To be pissed off that my DH is not going to McDonalds now and now I have to cook?

Sophiehoney · 13/07/2025 16:25

DH was going out at 4pm to rake DS12's friend home. He suggested he get McD's on the way back for himself and the kids (he knows I have a salad prepared for myself and that I don't like McDs) I said great, I wont have to cook.
I was in the shower when he left so I rang him to check he knows what DD7 wants from MCDs. He said he doesn't want McDs any more, he's going to go to the new local chippy instead. I said but the kids don't like the chunky chips you get from the chippies and he said well he's not going to two different places.
I said great, I suppose I'll just have to cook them something.
He said he doesn't understand why I'm so bothered, I would have had to cook anyway icfhe hadn't suggested getting something and I said, because I wasn't expecting to, I'd written it off in my mind, I haven't thought of what to cook and it's now 16:20 on a school night.
He thinks I'm just being argumentative and that I should just cook or we shpuld just tell the kids to just eat the damn chips.

Who's right?

@PopeJoan2

i can’t be arsed with batch cooking. I mean I could have done it this morning but there was a fitness class I wanted to go to so I went to that instead. My life doesn’t revolve around food and having it all made from
scratch

Sophiehoney · 13/07/2025 20:51

PopeJoan2 · 13/07/2025 20:50

Of course it isn’t cool to batch cook. That’s not the point I was making. We are all different. My shock at eating McD’s on a Sunday is my thing. Why does it bother you so?

Because it's judgy and was preceeded by a comment that was even judgier

Stop pretending you don't know this

I did a class too and cooked - the batch cooking was simple just cooking more portions of a recipe.

Why does it bother you that posters are not chained to what their mothers did 60 years ago…. Move on it’s 2025!

It’s really ok not to do a roast on a Sunday, have fish on a Friday or batch cook any day!

It’s not even like your mother was living in an era where she had much choice.

PopeJoan I honestly wouldn't waste any more time on this thread. I feel like you're simply trying to explain your opinions and upbringing and good lessons you've learned around food and people are being unnecessarily difficult and refusing to get where you're coming from. Fast food being normalised is sadly so commonplace that people don't even realise that it's bad. Completely ignoring the fact that we're heading the same way as the US where most people are obese and children are obese because of bad parental decisions and laziness.

Batch cooking healthy meals for those days where you feel tired or busy should be the norm but sadly it's 'let's spend money on a mcdonalds and moan we're all overweight and skint'

So don’t foist it on others with your “you could batch cook”!

PopeJoan2 · 13/07/2025 20:57

I regret my throwaway remark - saying what was in my head. I am shocked though about eating McD’s for a Sunday meal. It is weird to me. But it seems to be a normal thing. Who
knew?

Times change.

Fuck that. Why can’t he cook?

I hope I didn’t say that. I thought I said - or intended to say - that’s what I do.

PopeJoan2 · 13/07/2025 20:58

And how can a stranger on MN foist anything on anyone?

My DH made pizza from scratch today, so I'm sure we are "considerably better than yaw" OP!

Obv there is different weather across the country but I can't think of anything I'd rather eat less today than most batch cooked meals. Or indeed a roast, which I otherwise love, 1000 cals or not.

(Also, blue zones are a mostly discredited load of old toot).

Kids should eat the chip shop chips. They’re just chips, same as McDs and they are being fussy.

They aren’t

I don’t like chip shop chips as they are fat and chunky

Mac d are thin and crispy

why can’t dh cook @Sophiehoney

or kids have a sandwich and fruit or dare I say picky bits 😂

I don't think the Op is feeding her kids Mcdonalds every Sunday is she ?
It's a tasty treat in my house regardless of the day even of its a Sunday sometimes we even have a takeaway

They do indeed. And I won't say any more about it after this comment as you have acknowledged your judginess and apologised and I don't want to pick on you unnecessarily.

But I bet your mother would have used just eat now and then if she had it available.

I batch cook, I cook fresh and from scratch, I grow fruit and veg, I own chickens, I make my own bread, my wedding favours were homemade pots of jam FFS.

But I still use takeaways on occasion, I have absolutely no guilt whatsoever about this, and I'm just as good a mum as yours was.

Edited for typos

Any evidence for that last statement? No, I didn't think so. It's factual that there are blue zones and their diets have a lot in common with eat other.

How do you know what choices my
mother had or didn’t have? And who said anything about a Sunday roast? I didn’t.

I hate McD’s. To me it isn’t real food. It doesn’t fill me up. And I don’t find it satisfying. I think it is crap and I wouldn’t feed it to a pig.

Am I right? You’re hanging on to what your mother did, time to move on and free yourself.

No one cares what you think of McDonald’s they’re not asking you to eat it or feed it to pigs.

OP asked was her DH unreasonable for not cooking, you then started telling her your views on McDonald’s : and “worrying” about her, but you’re actually just judging her.

You changed the narrative of the thread and are now unhappy because people are answering you back.

Stop playing the victim now!
