To ask what you think about Starmer’s plan to stop the boats?

1000 replies

WhereIsMyJumper · 10/07/2025 22:30

I cannot see how his ‘one in one out’ plan is going to help. I also can’t understand why France is cooperating with us. What’s the incentive?

If you don’t agree with this plan, what would your answer be?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckg6x4g6gg6t

Starmer says 'one in, one out' migrant deal with France to begin within weeks

He says small boats migrants will be returned to France, in exchange for asylum seekers who have not tried to enter the UK illegally.

That wasn't what I was responding to. I'm not exactly sure what you mean so you'll have to explain.

I believe in saving lives at sea. Under maritime law we have an obligation to help those in our water. What are you suggesting?

It was a simple question that you’re conveniently evading because it’s impossible to debate with you.

What? It's not me who's evading the question.

I want workable solutions, not wish lists, practical solutions that will work, co-op between European countries, sch as now is starting to happen.

My DD works in the NHS, the people she has to be fearful of, are drunk white men, aggressive white relatives of patients, usually men.

She works with many migrants inc a migrant who came over on a boat, given asylum, is now a skilled Physio assistant.

My own Mum was treated by a Syrian stroke specialist who had come in to the UK on a lorry.....

Given most white men kill almost 3 women a week in the UK, i focus on the real dangers not imaginary ones.

Why haven't we put sanctions on France? Do you think it would stop there? who is the junior partner in this relationship? the UK or the EU ?

The very first thing France would do is call open season on boat crossings... its estimated they stop around 50% of attempts, most upstream, away from the coast.... similar across the EU.

Even @EasternStandard has said France does stop a lot of crossings.....

The NHS argument is so overused! Nobody has a problem with skilled immigrants who have entered LEGALLY working in the NHS or other much needed professions. My own mother had bowel surgery carried out by a Nigerian specialist.

These skilled immigrants do not cancel out the thousands of illegals entering every week though. Surely you see how this burdening our already over burdened services?

'Given most white men kill almost 3 women a week in the UK, i focus on the real dangers not imaginary ones.' Which white men? White British? White Europeans? Do you understand per capita. Of course white men are committing the majority of crime as we are a white majority country! That doesn't change the fact that immigrants are 3 times more likely to commit rape than British men. That is not an 'imaginary danger' !! It is a fact. And your gaslighting on the matter is not only irresponsible it is outright disrespectful to women.

'Why haven't we put sanctions on France? Do you think it would stop there? who is the junior partner in this relationship? the UK or the EU ?' It seems strange that you think France are able to dish out punishments to us yet we can't do the same. Fuck the EU, they are half the problem.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 12/07/2025 15:33

Asylum seekers do not enter the country illegally. That is the expected way to claim asylum.
you have to be in the country to claim asylum.

Drag them back to the French side whilst in international waters. Like the French do to us.

The country is at breaking point.
Why not close the borders for 12 months to all none British citizens.
No one is misinformed.
Get Keir Starmer out.

It's not at breaking point. That's hyperbolic nonsense from the Mail and Express.

You can't just close borders. People will still come and we need immigrants.

Keir Starmer is doing better than the last four Prime Ministers, thank you, he doesn't need to go anywhere.

ReturningDino · 12/07/2025 15:58

It is a really poor plan.

They could easily stop the boats if they wanted to. I cant believe they wanted to reduce PIP/benefits yet seem happy to keep funding thus farce of a situation with economic migrants.

'People will still come and we need immigrants.' They won't come if they can't come. We don't need immigrants but skilled workers are welcome. A few hundred immigrant doctors don't quite cut the mustard when we have few thousand low skilled non English speaking people arriving illegally every week.

Kier Starmer is worse than Tony Blair and that is quite an achievement.

That he's doing well is a minority opinion. Approval rating is very low.

MaturingCheeseball · 12/07/2025 16:18

@BobHamburger - I’m wasting my time, but why do you think we need immigrant men who arrive on boats? And no, they are not all doctors and engineers. When these men are granted leave to stay, do you think they all hot foot it to care homes all crying out for staff?

And why can’t you close borders? Plenty of countries do. Are you in favour of a free for all?

TopPocketFind · 12/07/2025 16:23

How do you propose the UK closes it's borders? Build a wall around the whole coastline?

Quite a few of the asylum seekers I work with ended up in care homes. They began by volunteering and once given refugee status got jobs.

@MiloMinderbinder925

Europe is a huge vast space if 70 are getting refugee status and we cannot take anymore we need to look at what refugee status means
We should have a quota we can take and stick to that limit not have endless refugees we can't process ,house etc forced on us

We should only be taking the vulnerable ,women'sand children and those in dire need.
Then we should be able to provide better and assimilate them with more success until they want to return home .

They come here because we're more likely to accept them and we'll give them loads of benefits.

We don't even bother trying to deport men from places like Afghan as we can't hope to return them, so they stay. And even the ones we refuse they just go down the human rights route with appeals. The asylum system is a waste of our time and money.

User135644 · 12/07/2025 16:45

MaturingCheeseball · 12/07/2025 08:50

I knew that would be the response. No - I want a justice system that serves the citizens of this country - not one in which some lawyers can manipulate sensible laws to advocate for criminals who have no right to be here - the clue is in foreign criminals.

The problem is liberal judges. Lawyers are doing their job ultimately.

Pretty much no one gets in.

Lovesstaggbeetle · 12/07/2025 16:58

@User135644 i wonder where the checks and balances on judges comes from there are many questionable seasons made eg handing over children to proven violent and abusive men , low sentences for heinous acts against children the whole lot needs an overhaul and investigating

Ive come to the conclusion there are open boarders posters on here who don't care one jot about the UK , your children my children they don't care about biometrics data being collected or thousands of undocumented young men going into the black market and niether do they worry about the women and children struggling to survive somewhere whilst all the fit men leave.

I can't see anything redeeming there at all.

Allowing this sort of immigration also fuels actual racists causing more problems.

so sick of this never ending immigration

A third of babies born in the UK have at least one parent born outside the UK.
https://www.migrationcentral.co.uk/p/a-record-number-of-births-had-foreign

I'm sure I heard a discussion on Radio 4 in the last day or so - listing the number of children born to foreign born mothers in different cities in the UK but I can't find it now (strangely). But the percentages were very high.
Not an issue in itself but when huge numbers of people come from countries which don't have the same values as us, and where corruption is rife and there is no checks or control it doesn't bode well.

A record number of births had foreign born parents in 2024

Charlie Cole writes for Migration Central on the huge changes taking place in our country.

Just started to read.

Already got to 3 people who thought the bat shit, ridiculously expensive and illegal Rwanda scheme was 'worth giving a go' , and now this completely inaccurate, ignorant bollocks pops up.

Right wing mumsnet really do deserve Reform PLC running this country, the rest of us normal, decent folk certainly do not.

You're assuming anyone who is fed up with immigration is a reform voter. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we're not. Never even voted Tory in my lifetime. Lots of us include ourselves as ' nice, normal decsnt folk' but we're pissed off and sick of the gas lighting that immigration is fantastic and enriching, when we can see with our own eyes what's happening in our towns and cities.. your attempt to shove us all in the right-wing fascist box doesn't work; if anything it'll backfire.

Finally, somebody who knows what they’re talking about. Sitting here open-mouthed about how people are so uninformed and have just believed everything they’ve read in The Daily Mail.

Exactly that I've always wondered who got the juicy contracts for accommodation and food and the profits involved.
Makes you wonder who exactly is milking the system and it's been going on for years it didn't suddenly start a year ago as the Daily mail would have people believe.

BIossomtoes · 12/07/2025 21:21

They could easily stop the boats if they wanted to.

If it was so easy why is it still happening? Sunak didn’t even try.
