I am one, because I CAN'T AFFORD TO PUT TWO CHILDREN INTO CHILDCARE.

I did initially go back to work, but got shafted by my boss and am about to take him to court. We are not minted and I don't spend my time watching tv, eating bicuits and buying handbags. More's the pity. I will go back to work my my children are older, for definite, but for now, I'm stuck, whether I like it or not.

I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who can't actually afford to work?

So true fairymum. Reminds me of a gran I used to see trailing up to school, fag in hand, with assorted grandchildren/ stepgrandchildren/ other hangers-on, on her way to pick up more kids. She never seemed to speak except to bark at the slower kids to 'stop messing about and catch up'!! She was the matriarch of a large family with numerous children/stepchildren etc and was in great demand as the free childcare provider for her assorted relatives. Not a huge amount of advanced language skills going on there lol!!

Any responsible parent is concerned about rapid acquisition of language skills.

They are not remotely contradictory anna! As you well know!
If you are concerned about the aquisition of language skills, then you will strive to provide the right environment. If you are not, then you would not be so bothered about it. I believe that part of responsible parenting involves the former. Not contradictory at all.
