To think children shouldn’t be naked at the beach?

Been at the beach most of the day and I can not believe how many small children are walking around completely naked. Is this still a thing?

OP posts:

Why not?

lavenderanddaisies · 09/07/2025 18:06

My children have never been naked at the beach and I’d feel uncountable seeing other peoples children naked

Why not?

Wow

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 09/07/2025 18:07

Why is it a problem?

maddiemookins16mum · 09/07/2025 18:07

Nobody, young or old, needs to be showing their genitals at a beach.

Yogabearmous · 09/07/2025 18:08

Shouldn’t happen. It’s easy to put them in a swim suit or pair of shorts. You leave them vulnerable to the predators in society who frequent these places to get their needs met.

sprigatito · 09/07/2025 18:08

I think it’s weird to be uptight about naked small children enjoying their freedom on the beach, tbh. As long as they have sunscreen on.

Meadowfinch · 09/07/2025 18:08

Up to the age of three or maybe 4, with appropriate sun protection and closely supervised, I can't see why not.

Let them dance in the shallows.. They are completely innocent.

WaltzingWaters · 09/07/2025 18:08

I wish I could say it’s fine for children to be at the beach naked, but unfortunately with the ease of cameras (being discreet on phones) nowadays, it could be quite dangerous for children to be naked on the beach if the wrong person were there.

Papering · 09/07/2025 18:08

Rather worrying that people on here are sexualising young children!

Papering · 09/07/2025 18:06

Why not?

Because of the amount of child predators there are out there.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/07/2025 18:09

It probably feels lovely to be running around free. I have no problem with it.

You don’t “leave them vulnerable”, because you don’t leave them at all. Nobody should be letting small children out of their sight on a beach, whether they have clothes on or not.

Papering · 09/07/2025 18:10

I think you have a very simplistic view of how predators think and behave.

ResidentPorker · 09/07/2025 18:10

It’s not “dangerous” in any physical sense.

Meadowfinch · 09/07/2025 18:11

My ds used to to paddle naked up to the age of 3.5, then he decided he wanted swimming trunks.

I was always with him, he used to laugh as the wavelets hit his toes. He was a baby.

How can that be offensive to anyone?

Icanttakethisanymore · 09/07/2025 18:11

This again. Some people think it’s a non issue, some people think it’s akin to asking a convicted child sex offender to come to a kids birthday party. Never the twain shall agree.

Shakirasma · 09/07/2025 18:11

YANBU, given everything we know about skin cancer it is irresponsible for young children to be so exposed to UV radiation. Suncream is no substitute for proper beach clothing such as rash vests/suits.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/07/2025 18:11

the worst case scenario, and surely super rare, is that a paedophile would take a photo I guess. But even that wouldn’t directly harm the child, as they’d never know?

GettingFestiveNow · 09/07/2025 18:11

If only children could be kept safe from predators by wearing shorts.

ResidentPorker · 09/07/2025 18:11

Provided a parent or caregiver has eyes on the child at all times, which they should whether the child is clothed or not, it isn’t a risk. Let the child enjoy its innocence FFS.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 09/07/2025 18:12

I’m not bothered by anyone being naked on a beach. Naked doesn’t have to be sexual.

Im only bothered if they’re doing something inappropriate like masturbating.

Drew79 · 09/07/2025 18:12

It's not common, but so what , if they are small children? Lots of little ones strip off and run around for a bit, especially when hot, or just getting changed/dry, they shouldn't fear it.

Hodgemollar · 09/07/2025 18:12

It’s fine. Children aren’t safer in swimwear.

aswarmofmidges · 09/07/2025 18:12

My thought was sunburn risks but there you go

your average predator is your favourite uncle who you will let babysit your kids because you trust him so much
