To think children shouldn’t be naked at the beach?

Been at the beach most of the day and I can not believe how many small children are walking around completely naked. Is this still a thing?

My only fear is sunburn. Mine would wear pants and t shirt usually.

You're right, it's not 1950 - so a swimsuit will make no difference. They'll just use photoshop to remove any clothing.

Of course they will, which means children (women too) are not really safe anywhere.

I'd clothe them, at least in a swimming costume and maybe a t-shirt too. Not because I think that determined paedophiles couldn't photoshop a picture, but because I think that we shouldn't be making things any easier for these sleazeballs than it already is.

It’s gross imo. I am very judgy about parents who do this, I think it’s just shows laziness and it’s not respectful of the child’s privacy. I never let mine be inappropriately dressed ( or not dressed as the case may be)

This is such a bizarre take on the subject. Any way to attack other parents.

I get the paedo argument but ‘laziness’ is reaching so far you must have fallen over.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 09/07/2025 18:20

What protection from predators do you think a swimming costume provides, exactly?

Removes the clear sight of exposed genitals on display. I can't believe I actually had to explain that to you.

ginasevern · 09/07/2025 18:38

@arethereanyleftatall

"the worst case scenario, and surely super rare, is that a paedophile would take a photo I guess. But even that wouldn’t directly harm the child, as they’d never know?"

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of nakedness on the beach, do you really believe that your child's photo ending up on the dark web isn't a problem? Words fail me.

Rather worrying that people on here are sexualising young children!

It's not sexualising young children its protecting children by keeping them sufficiently covered so perverts don't look at their naked bodies they maybe even take photos or videos these days as everyone has a camera phone.
There is no way either of my dc would ever have been naked on a beach no matter how young they were for this reason.
Too many fkin weirdos about. wtf is wrong with parents not wanting to protect their kids.

My ds used to to paddle naked up to the age of 3.5, then he decided he wanted swimming trunks.

I was always with him, he used to laugh as the wavelets hit his toes. He was a baby.

How can that be offensive to anyone?

At that age mine used to see the waves and start to fling off their clothes at break neck speed and head towards the water with me following in hot pursuit.

Cadenza12 · 09/07/2025 18:40

A few years ago I was walking past a chain link fence that encircled a Splash water park. A couple of men were looking intently at the children. Following their gaze, a couple of toddlers were running around unclothed. I definitely think that children should be wearing something. They may be innocent, the world isn't.

I think you have a very simplistic view of how predators think and behave.

This

SerafinasGoose · 09/07/2025 18:40

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 09/07/2025 18:07

Why is it a problem?

Melanoma.

MorningLarkEchoes · 09/07/2025 18:08

Because of the amount of child predators there are out there.

There always have been and always will be.

Let them be young and innocent while they can. That's what parents are there for, to protect their children.

PaxAeterna · 09/07/2025 18:43

My pale children were always covered in a long UV swim suit and hat. I don’t see an issue with it though. It’s more common in some countries than it is here yet the rates of child predators seem to be the same. I think if’s a simplistic way of thinking about child abusers to be honest.

Grammarnut · 09/07/2025 18:43

Papering · 09/07/2025 18:06

Why not?

I can think of a whole lot of reasons why not, starting with surreptitious filming by perverts. The others are sand in places you wouldn't want sand, and getting cold.

MidnightPatrol · 09/07/2025 18:44

Shakirasma · 09/07/2025 18:11

YANBU, given everything we know about skin cancer it is irresponsible for young children to be so exposed to UV radiation. Suncream is no substitute for proper beach clothing such as rash vests/suits.

The UK is the only country I know where we are obsessed with covering every inch of a child’s skin at all times.

Given we tend to suffer from vitamin D deficiency anyway, making sure we get some sunlight exposure is also important!

I agree but why help them?

Which makes no difference to a predator - something I can't believe I actually have to explain that to you!

So its ok for the child's image to be used by some pervert to get off on as long as the child doesn't know.
Wow, are you on a fkin wind up.
The mind boggles.

I would have loved to see you keep swimming gear on my middle child - she lived to be naked - home from school - naked, beach - naked - back from football - naked - hated clothes, still does but will wear the bare minimum now - aged 21!

Same with my DD! Couldn’t keep clothes on her and now at home in minimum clothing.

On the topic, I’m very torn. I’m very pro-child nudity, it’s how I was raised and how I raised mine.

However, now I’m so much more aware of the prevalence of online CSI and abuse. Those perverts will take a very normal, innocent photo of a child and alter it with photoshop and AI etc to turn it into something unspeakable. It’s why the police and child safety experts say not to upload your child’s photos online to social media etc.

lazyarse123 · 09/07/2025 18:47

It should be OK but I have to say I feel uncomfortable seeing it. I am a csa survivor so don't know if that colours my thinking.
We were at the coast a while ago and were watching the sea and beach and dh said we should move as there were a few naked children and he didn't want people to think he was watching. Sad state of affairs.

Oh get a grip! Why do you think perverts hang around places such as the beach? No one on here is sexualising small kids but nonces will given half the chance, why make it easy for them?

thischarmimgwoman · 09/07/2025 18:47

Slack or naive parenting IMO. Children should be kept dignified, protected and safe by their parents - no one else is gonna do it for them.

MidnightPatrol · 09/07/2025 18:48

I am comfortable with this on a sparsely populated beach with the odd walker going past, but probably wouldn’t on a very busy beach (Costa del Sol style).

I think you need to balance being cautious about eg sexual predators and not seeing them hiding behind every rock.

Chinsupmeloves · 09/07/2025 18:49

It doesn't bother me but I've never done it with my DC, mostly due to sand getting in those areas and hygiene I guess.

You can get plenty of sun exposure whilst wearing knickers and a vest.

What does a beach pervert look like, please?
