My late husband loathed that expression.

Thanks. Do you know why? How do you feel about it?

It never really bothered me. I think that DH saw at saying "Yes, it's an awful situation but I'll just have to endure it and there's nothing that I can do about it. I'll just have to suffer it."

Interesting.

Certainly the last time I used it to myself was in an unfixable/inescapable traffic jam. I just turned the music radio up to 11 and waited as patiently as I could. (And congratulated myself on trying to move away from the overcrowded SE.)

Mine have been today also!

MushMonster · 08/07/2025 16:41

What?!?!?!
Are you older than 6?
Yes, then use your NICE words....
Honestly.... no surprise this world is proper broken if there are people like this walking around...

I think that it really bothered DH because people would use it with reference to medical matters. (He was a stroke victim.)

I'm sorry to hear that. I've known at least two myself. That would make a difference in that context. 😔

Yes I hate that. I hate all this childish nonsense.

Adults who talk about x number of ‘sleeps’ till their holiday etc make me feel intense rage.

I think you mean ‘holibobs’...

And shrieking and squealing when you meet ’the girls’ at prossecco o'clock
😡

Haha yes, autocorrect fail!

"It Is What It Is"

Ah, I was guilty of using this phrase but in my defence:
i was helping my Mum to declutter - she is a hoarder , dementia, massive falls risk.
She also like taking clothes apart but never re-sewed them, at one point 5 pairs of trousers she took the waistband off t "fix" but they sat in a box .

"No , I'm keeping that . It's a pair of trousers"
It was a pair of trousers till you cut them up
"I'm going to sew it . It's a pair of trousers/jacket/blouse"

It Is What It Is .....A piece of fabric that hasn't been trousers for five years and will never be trousers again, doing nothing but causing clutter

The annoying thing was , my Dad had bought her trousers (outlet so non refundable) but instead of her trying to mend one pair and send the others to charity shop , she wasted all of them. <sigh>

Oh god yes, don't give me more rage!!
At my work, we are often told "2 more sleeps" before people's holidays/weddings/weekends/whatever

Also a woman I work with goes to Disney once a year and she calls it 'going home'

Please tell me how that affects you? I agree with your OP but if someone wants to call going to Disney, going home then I fail to see how that impacts you.

You don't need to understand how it impacts her though. We all have phrases we dislike. Lots of different ones because people are all different. You will probably detest something I say, I might detest something you say. It's nothing to get upset about.

Or to quote my most Un Favourite MN phrase

I couldn't bring myself to get worked up over this

Eurgh I hated even typing that !

Oh, I missed the bit in my post where I said it upset me?

OP has said certain things give her the rage and then mentioned the Disney lady. You're telling me there's no need to get upset because I question how it affects someone yet it's fine to say someone calling their holiday destination home gives them rage.

Ok then 👍🏻.

Well this has just made me think of the Father Ted scene where he kicked Bishop Brennan up the arse. I mean it worked! The poor Bishop didn't speak for the entirety of the rest of the episode

Hmm you may be onto something here!

partyetiquette · 13/07/2025 22:57

Yeah the Disney woman gives me rage. Of course its not your home you silly twat. It's a theme park made out of fibreglass. You live in a 3 bed semi round the corner from work

OP posts:
SunflowersInRain · 15/07/2025 00:16

I'm pretty sure she knows it's not actually her home. How does it actually affect you? I think getting the rage over something like that, that bothers nobody, makes you the silly twat 👍🏻.

Are you the Disney home woman???
It affects me in the same way that all silly annoyances affect people You know, like the REST OF THE THREAD which has all been silly things that annoy us.
Like how me, a stranger on the Internet has clearly bothered you with this.
Ill throw the question back at you if thats what we are doing. How does me writing on an Internet thread about a woman at my work affect you? I'm bothering no one, so I think , you replying to me and caring about it, that makes YOU the silly twat.
Ooh this is like Wimbledon. Twat edition

OP posts:
SunflowersInRain · 16/07/2025 22:26

Yes, I'm the Disney home woman because that's clearly the only logical answer 🙄.

You haven't bothered with me with it at all, I just wonder how it affects you. Since I'm not bothered, I'm not affected by your words but you obviously are by a woman calling a holiday destination home?

Says more about you than anything else. The only silly twat is you.

I'm sure you feel very clever with your oh so hilarious Wimbledon, twat edition comment. Well done, you. Have a gold star ⭐.

partyetiquette · 16/07/2025 23:06

Aww thanks hun
I love gold stars 🌟
