Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

So you think it's acceptable for arses to be out at an event that's public and not age censored?

An arse is an arse FFS

JustSawJohnny · 05/07/2025 22:04

I seem to see teenage girls' arse cheeks every time I leave the house at the moment.

A thong isn't really much different to Speedo's.

All a bit pearl clutchy.

Most LGBT+ people are very clear that MAPs are NOT part of their community....

Watermelonice · 05/07/2025 22:04

Inclusiveness gone mad, too many people have lost their common sense and are desperate to make excuses for sexualised behaviour in public in the daytime, and desperate to show how modern their thinking is…

It’s a real shame that Pride, an important event, has been appropriated by mentally-ill fetishists.

Sticking my head above the parapet here, but... is Pride actually an important event? Historically, it absolutely was, but now gay people in the UK have equal rights enshrined in law, I just don't see the point in it. I don't think any homophobic people are going to be convinced out of their homophobia by a Pride event, so what's the point?

JustSawJohnny · 05/07/2025 22:05

Norma27 · 05/07/2025 20:54

you are completely right Op and the people on this thread thinking it is ok for men to act out their fetish and show their cock to young kids is just madness.

Who said anyone had their cock out?

Your'e making stuff up.

Arses aren't inherently sexual

They are not generally on display either.

Ok, CBBC obviously didn't get the memo. Unless they are routinely showing naked arses on there now ?

Its a celebration of all that the lgbt community has achieved 🏳️‍🌈

Still waiting for the ‘achingly cool crowd’ to explain why, if a straight person behaved the way described in this thread, they would be considered a risk or a fetishist, but it’s ok to do at Pride?

Why is it different?

What have they achieved? Can you explain?

IButtleSir · 05/07/2025 22:07

Fundayout2025 · 05/07/2025 22:02

Maybe only in London. My local pride festival has nothing much more than a couple of drag queens , at least during daylight hours. In fact it's my DGS aim to become a drag queen when he's grown up.

But it is all family friendly during the day

I went to Brighton Pride 15 years ago and saw more male arse cheeks than I have ever seen before or since. It's not just London.

Hallehills · 05/07/2025 22:08

BundleBoogie · 05/07/2025 21:56

So it’s ok to for Pride to encourage parents to take their kids as it’s ‘family friendly’, only to discover the ‘furry’ fetish stall and the men parading their butt plugs? Are you serious?

There are no warnings of explicit or 18+ behaviour on the website.

Erm, why are you coming for me? Get back in your box.

Have you ever even been to a Pride parade?! Do you live in London?! Have you ever taken the time to fully look up the history of Pride?! (And I mean really look it up, watch some documentaries, read some well-written texts - not just what you hear on here or the Daily Mail). You don't seem to have much of a clue to just be leaping to all these random assumptions. I didnt see a single furry butt plug. Just a couple of hairy cheeks, some fun outfits and a whole lot of love.

Anyone who doesn't understand what the Pride march is London is like and wants to go with their kids, should do their own homework. Pride London does not = Pride everywhere.

There are just desperate for their ‘progressive’ and ‘inclusive’ brownie points. They’ll move into the new fad soon enough.

Arses aren't sexual

Plenty of women are walking around showing their arse

It's pretty clear your issues are with the "men" part.

I agree with this.

Most of the gay people I know (and this includes actual friends) feel embarrassed by the continued victim mentality of some minority of gay people (a very vocal minority I will say ). Gay people in Britain have all the same rights as straight people. They're equally as protected and opportuned as their neighbour.

But then we got the "micro aggressions" when the vocal minority were not happy with equality.

Just in the spirit of devil's advocate .... if it was an event celebrating heterosexuality would it be OK to have skimpily clad in scanty clothing behaving in ways that were sexually suggestive. I think probably not tbh

Yes I know love island and all the other reality shows about sex But on the street.

I honestly don't understand why pride is so sexualised as obviously there is a hell of alot more to the lgbtq community than sex and odd blokes showing their bits and bobs off in women's clothes.
Just why ?

That's every friday and saturday night in the city centre.

AzurePanda · 05/07/2025 22:09

I often think Pride Marches look exactly like a march by an evangelical Christian group wanting to depict gay people as sexual deviants and perverts. Most of my gay friends are appalled by the whole thing.

Why isn't there an annual event to celebrate what other marginalised groups have achieved?

Personally, having equal rights is enough of a celebration for me.

Equal marriage

I'm not so sure, there are definitely activists on Mumsnet. It's all about normalising and getting women to lower boundaries around children.

Watermelonice · 05/07/2025 22:09

What do LGB think of it all? Are they embarrassed by TQ+ et al?
