To dump dog in one of my husbands offices he works from

I will preface this with he is a lovely dog, well trained and behaved.
but I never wanted a dog, and said it, but got overruled.

Fast forward 8 years.

Husband has left me, children have left home , and I am tied to him.

I love him, but want the freedom that the rest of family have

Haven’t been on holiday for 3 years - husband was away just for example for 79 days last year.

Poor dog 😔

How on earth is he a poor dog? He has an owner who loves him so much she refuses to upset him by putting him in kennels, even tho she is struggling and longs for time away.

The dog isn't on Mumsnet. He doesn't know she wishes the husband could take him for a bit.

There is no evidence here to suggest OP is anything other than a diligent and loving carer for the dog.

It's unreasonable to try and share dog ownership with an ex you clearly don't get on with 🙄

People raise children with an ex they clearly don't get on with!

A dog's needs are less complex than a kid's.

Of course this can be done. Plenty of couples split up and share custody of the dog. Doesn't matter what they think of each other, the dog doesn't know or care.

He wouldn’t, but he also doesn’t step up - but if I left him in an office(safe environment and everyone loves him), then husband would have to take him home as he couldn’t look like the uncaring arsehole he is.

Thats a lot of if’s. You need to decide which is more important, the dogs needs or sticking it to your ex.

Come off it. You're not raising a dog like you're raising a child. You're not the dog's parents. There is no need for the dog to keep both people in its life.

The dog does not care who owns it as long as it is fed, walked and properly cared for. (i.e. not "dumped" so that its owner can go on holiday and get one over on her ex).

There is no need whatsoever to pass it between two homes, particularly when you can't get on with one another and make proper arrangements.

Of course it matters what they think of each other when their ability to get on and make arrangements affects how the dog is cared for. It matters for children too, but there's less of a choice there.

Obviously if it's amicable and both people are committed then it can work fine - but that's clearly not the case here.

We didn't go abroad whilst we had our dog. We had lovely holidays in the UK. If we'd wanted to travel abroad we wouldn't have got a dog.

Prob why I don’t have a dog as love my 2w abroad

tho if I did I have enough friends who would have the dog like I have friends dogs when they go away

It is possible to do both.

at present I have family to care for mine. However I also have a list of local kennels/pet sitters/home boarders I’ve gathered from seeing social media recommendations. A few I have used for the cat so I have somewhere to start.

pet care is now a big business. Yes it’s a pain to have to organise when you go away but it’s never stopped us.
