To be done with Labour - no money will be saved

I've just seen on ITV news that even if the bill goes through no money whatsoever will be saved. So it all seems a pretty pointless exercise. What on earth was the point of all this fuss and argument. Might have guessed this government would be a disaster. That huge majority and they can't get anything done.

I hate to think what the UK will be like after 4 more years of this.

Yep, Labour got in because the Tories were a bag of shit and now Labour are a bag of shit too

Theunamedcat · 01/07/2025 19:00

Except this bag of shit is actively trying to kill people

Pip saves lives the proposed cuts will cost lives it will also put people out of work

In my personal situation if I return to work tomorrow carers need to be bought in paid for by the government to take care of my responsibilities that will cost them more but not to worry they will get my £83 a week back in carers allowance that should redress the balance right?

I don't understand your point. We live in a democracy. The government are meant to represent the people. The bill is delayed while the democratic process occurs. Are you saying that you'd rather live in a dictatorship?

I think the problem is that this government don't have a clue.

I don't think anyone wants a dictatorship!

User37482 · 01/07/2025 19:32

I actually don’t think I can watch another 4 years of this. The utter fucking shambles the UK is going to be in a few more years just makes me feel queasy. It’s unbearable to think about what a correction to all this is going to look like.

I wonder how long Starmer has before he’s deposed.

Yogabearmous · 01/07/2025 19:33

The u turns are a constant embarrassment and now we will be looking at higher taxes again. All the wealthy are leaving and the middle earners are being crushed . It’s a shit show and we are going to see an economic collapse if things continue like this.

EasternStandard · 01/07/2025 19:35

What a mess. U turns everywhere. What have they even voted on, what's left of it?

Jennps · 01/07/2025 19:36

To be honest this is what you get when you have the lowest calibre of morons in charge.

To Tier, who failed at absolutely everything when in public office and fighting for terrorists and unsavouries when DPP is now having a good go at trashing the country.

Rachel from accounts, she not plagiarizing books, lying about her CV and allegedly fiddling expenses and bunking off work, is killing off what’s left of the economy. Gilt yields are now higher than under Liz Truss. This idiot disguised as chancellor is doing a worse job than Truss.

The entire cabinet are like the human manifestation of what ‘thick as mince’ must look like. The country is in deep deep trouble, even more so than under the Tories, who’d have thought it, eh?

Correction, 1000 people going on disability related benefits PER DAY

alexalisten · 01/07/2025 19:37

Can someone explain it to me simply i dont understand it

somewhereintheworld · 01/07/2025 19:39

What's your plan to fix everything then? And please don't say Reform!

Jennps · 01/07/2025 19:39

Wait until October. If you are a taxpayer. Especially a higher rate one. Bend over now and be prepared for even higher taxes.

The rich are leaving in droves anyway, because they can. They don’t need to put up with this. This socialism is steroids will only hurt those middle earners.

Claim to have ADHD? Exaggerated conditions?

How can you claim to have these conditions, or exaggerate them, when you need to be assessed and provide medical information to support your claim?

Just wondering, as a PIP assessor, if you know anyone who has personally been through this process?

Disability related welfare, and all welfare in this country is out of control. There are over 1000 additional people a day going on disability related benefits. Generally, more than 50% of people now take more out of the system than pay.

The welfare system needs cutting down. Drastically. Disability related benefits would be a good start, before the country ends up with a Greek style crash, where money markets decide that we simply cannot afford to run this country anymore.

The proposal was to cut £5b from welfare, the country spends more than £1tn a year so £5b would be a drop in the ocean. The socialist Labour MPs, most of whom have never done a real day’s work or have any experience of working in the real economy decided that they wouldn’t support it. Supine Starmer and Rachel from accounts decided it was too much like hard work and gave up.

Massive tax rises are coming.

Claims per day. That doesn't mean they'll get PIP

3C31M · 01/07/2025 19:45

Starmer deposed? Rayner becoming PM? 😳
WFA, PIP, 40% tax on pension pots from April 2027…it’s a complete disaster.

Rayner as PM. Imagine that. The bar is low, we’ll have to dive into Earth’s core to find it.

Sadcafe · 01/07/2025 19:47

Just talked about all this with OH , one year in, illegal immigration massively up, welfare bill skyrocketing and any attempt to halt derailed, NHS still in a state, list just goes on, struggling to see what they have actually achieved

It's the same with the money they'll raise by taxing private school fees. The shrinkage in the number of private pupils and would-be potential private pupils, especially at the lower cost schools and the SEN provision end of the market, will cost the government more to provide state education for those children than the government stands to raise in revenue. And those children are going to somehow be manoeuvered into position for some of the better state school catchments and the borderline grammar places by their parents, which means disadvantaged children will lose out. It's bonkers and completely counter-productive. It will do absolutely nothing to raise standards in state schools by forcing the closure of some small independents.

RicardoOrchard · 01/07/2025 19:49

This government is shockingly useless. You almost have to laugh.

There is nothing left. They voted on nothing. Why didn't they just withdraw it. But I was absolutely against a two tier system.

It seemsxthey didnt think this through at all- like THE Winter fuel allowance changes. Both needed to he looked at and still need to be looked at. But they have a huge majority and 4 years left in power. Why not investigate properly, wait for the welfare review and then put sensible reforms to Parliament rather than make half baked decisions they have to backtrack on? Welfare needs reform, it's costing too much money that we don't have, but taking money from people that enables them to work is a ridiculous way of doing it, and it wouldn't have passed. And you can't just take people's pip away and make them go to work. Employers have to be compelled and facilitated into accommodating disabled people and people need better access to work support ( which is in the bill but should have been implemented before the cuts. The WFA was set at a too low limit first and now it's set far too high. Why not make it taxable? It's like amateur hour.

No one wants to talk about how much care is going to cost when all the people who are receiving carers allowance have to go back to work. It’s as though people can’t see past the headlines claiming that the cuts will save £5 billion. They may save money but I don’t think anyone has bothered costing how much paid care is going to cost or who’s going to provide it because there’s a huge shortage of staff in that sector.

Very worrying times for families who will need this care put in place when they have to return to full time employment.

RebelMoon · 01/07/2025 19:57

They'll attempt to spin this as a victory for the government but we all know this has been an embarrassing debacle. They've ended up pissing everybody off, those who opposed the changes AND those who agreed with them. What an achievement!
