DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

peachescariad · 01/07/2025 12:36

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

We're clean when we get into bed. We just enjoy sleeping in freshly laundered sheets.

Genuine question (and not because I'm a skanky mare why doesn't change her bedding) but the other day I was wondering what the huge difference was between a bed and a sofa. I wear long-legged pyjamas and a t shirt to bed as a minimum so no more of me touches the bed than when I'm slobbing on the sofa. Most people would wash their sheets every two weeks or so, but how often do you clean your sofa?

Every day, for the sofa. Ten days to a fortnight for the bed. I don’t wear pjs. I do have a superking so spend a week or so on one side and the same on the other side. I certainly don’t worry about water. It’s recycled for one thing, and it hardly stops raining for another, here oop north. If we run short of water, the water companies are not doing their jobs that we pay them for. Heatwave ? I heard about those.

menopausalfart · 02/07/2025 19:05

If I didn't wash my bedding every week, they'd walk themselves to the machine, especially in this weather. I get night sweats regularly. My DH would leave his on all year if I didn't wash them.

Unpaidviewer · 02/07/2025 19:06

I once dated a guy who had no sheets on his bed. Just a bare matress and quilt.

CommonAsMucklowe · 02/07/2025 19:07

I work in a laundry, you'd be horrified at what some people sleep in. The colour, the smell, the tears and rips and they have enough money to get someone else to wash and iron them. Just bizarre imo.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 02/07/2025 19:11

Every fortnight for our bedding! Towels go in for a 'speed wash ' every other day. However I have Aquafit 3 times a week, so face cloths and swim towels go in with swim suits ect . Straight away on those days. Again I use a speed wash setting. They go out in the fresh air anyway! I wouldn't enjoy sleeping in bedding that had been on the bed a month!!! However! To each their own.

I think your username probably explains this !!

Crikeyalmighty · 02/07/2025 19:22

@Cotswoldlife90 I will let you off - if I had dogs up there I would do this more regularly too - I do borrow my doggy and one dog refuses to stay downstairs- when he’s been on our bed or even in the room I have to change bedding and hoover as my eyes can’t cope with the loose hair in the room

You are being ridiculous. We are heading towards a country wide water shortage, not to mention damage to planet with overuse of detergents. I think people who push an agenda to constantly wash things (washing towels every week!) are utterly selfish with the planet’s limited resources. But worse they then start to try and make the rest of us feel ‘unclean’. Ridiculous.

Ew you minger! How often do you shower then? Once a year whether you need it or not?

MaggieBsBoat · 02/07/2025 19:23

You sound obnoxious OP.

Nosleepforthismum · 02/07/2025 19:29

I think I must be the top minger on this thread because I only wash my bedding when it feels or looks a bit grubby. Sometimes that is every couple of weeks but could easily be a couple of months in the winter.

Daftypants · 02/07/2025 19:34

That’s a bit “eugh “ but it does depend on whether it’s hot at night ?
Does he get hot at night ?
Does he drool on the pillowcases ?
I change my pillowcases at least x 2 per week .
Ideally I’d like to change everyone’s sheets weekly too but it’s too much !
I have 2 doubles , one single and one king size bed to strip and make again so I stretch to doing them every 2 weeks

FunMustard · 02/07/2025 19:35

I remember when DH and I first got together, I unexpectedly had to go and stay with my mum after an operation, so he stayed in my flat. It was about 6 weeks I think.

Anyway I got back and he hadn't changed the sheets once. They STUNK. Grotty bugger, obviously he's not like that anymore but I remember reeling that the stench didn't force him to do something about it!

Gudgollymissmolly · 02/07/2025 20:01

Instead of berating him, you should be guiding him cause he clearly doesn't know how often he should be changing the bed linen

Buzyizzy217 · 02/07/2025 20:01

There’s a thought going around that we don’t actually need to waste water and fuel with this OCD of washing everything constantly.
Four weeks is not filthy by any means. Is he incontinent? He’s sleeping on his own, does it matter? Not he’s not ‘ a filthy f*cker” at all.

PotteringPondering · 02/07/2025 17:19

What? You're telling me some people don't iron hankies?

Nope, we don't polish our husband's shoes either. Shocking, I know.

2to5 · 02/07/2025 20:09

I was brought up to always have a bath Sunday evening, ears cleaned toenails trimmed and a clean bed. A clean bed is one of life's simple pleasures. I do shower every evening and wash the bedding on a weekend, ours and the three children. My eldest daughter 15 now strip's her bed and puts it in the wash before she does her weekend job i wash it and if i have time remake it for her because she loves coming home to a clean bed after a hard day's work. All my kids love it they often say ooh clean bed get in and have a good sniff before they snuggle down!

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

@Kateb12 Bet your house is lovely.

Well yea….. if I wear a nightie, I need to put pants on…. And if I have pyjamas on, I’m not going commando 🤣 and having the seam sei ing my snatch crazy.

putting on clean pjs every night means my bed is kept cleaner for longer.

yep…. Definitely eye opening!

I’ve never heard of anyone wearing underpants in bed. I thought you were meant to let your foof breath after being cooped up all day…

4 weeks isn't too bad, I probably wash ours once a month or so. I don't sweat much at all, I don't sleep naked either. It doesn't smell bad at all after 4 weeks, in fact it usually still smells of the fabric softener.

neighboursmustliveon · 02/07/2025 20:38

Agix · 01/07/2025 14:22

Gosh I'd gross most of mumsnet out with how little I change my sheets. I'm not gonna say. They get changed more often than if DH was left to his own devices though hahaha.

Me too! I will admit we easily do every 2/3 months. I know as we have seasonal bedding so Christmas stuff goes on mid November and comes off first week in January then valentines went on and that didn’t come off till early March. I’ve just changed that bedding a week or two ago so at least three months that set was on.

it doesn’t bother either of us and our bed doesn’t smell, nobody knows- and to make it worse, we both shower on a morning 😂
