DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

Aside from the hygiene, it is a sensuous delight to slip between freshly laundered sheets… and makes you feel like a princess, especially in a pretty nightdress!

I set my bar a lot higher than yours

Your bar seems to be shaming someone for the sheer hell of it so its actually not that high 🙄
You arent in the bed with him, it isnt directly effecting you, you have just posted to feel superior to him.

omg who irons bedding?!?

Me!

You put on clean pyjamas every night???

Yes. Get in from work. Have a wash (shower 2/3 times a week, more if it’s been hot , like recently)

put on clean pants and clean pyjamas.

MixedBananas · 02/07/2025 18:16

Would love to change qeekley but we have no tumble dryer and 0 outdoor space to dry outside and have a tiny space by a radiator to dry clothes and bedding. It is awful. As a rental with 0 outdoor space the LL should provide a tumble dryer. Thats the only thing I would use in there as otherwise it is 2/3 weeks between washes

Wait till you hear some people wash towels after every use. 😳

@SleeplessInWherever I can only conclude poster is a SAHM, very part time or on maternity leave - OR seriously rich with a housekeeper - if anyone is working full time and hoovering and steam cleaning mattresses personally they will more than likely burn out at some point -

I work 60 hours a week and I do this 🙃 🤣 but I share my bed with my dogs (which is fully against the mumsnet mantra) but hey ho.

Wash bedding once a week because of sharing bed with dogs and towels once a week. I dont like the feeling of when bed linen hasnt been washed

Hang on, clean pants AND clean pyjamas? Surely if you’re wearing pants under them and the pants are new every night you don’t also need to change your PJs.

This thread has been eye-opening. I wash sheets, towels and nightwear weekly. Might switch up the nightwear more often if it’s hot and I’m sweating.

have also never worn pants under PJs.

Helen483 · 02/07/2025 18:22

If you're not sleeping in there, how do you know? (Have you appointed yourself the "bedroom police") 😂😂😂.

And why do you care?
Unless you're worried about his hygiene generally or there's a terrible smell coming out of the room, then maybe you should just leave him to it.

Oh, and for the record, I change my bed sheets once a fortnight, unless it's been very hot and sweaty, in which case I do it more often.

Towels are changed at least once a week - any longer than that is just yucky!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/07/2025 18:23

4 weeks in this very hot humid weather is very skanky. People sweat a lot from their heads at night and dribble sometimes, there's oils from your hair, and many man use hair products like wax in their hair so there's that too. So can't they at least change their pillow case once a fortnight even if they don't bother changing the rest of the sheets?

I assume this is a male thing (if that's sexist, so be it). My DH is the same. And the laziness seems to have been passed on to my sons as Dh recently helped 21 year son move flats for a few months and brought some dirty sheets home for me to wash. I don't mind doing that but god, I was shocked at the colour of them. I mean they are white sheets but there was yellow discolouration which was clearly from sweat and just lack of washing. He has a girlfriend who stays over most of the time too!!

NannyChirley · 02/07/2025 18:24

each to their own, but I change my sheets every Saturday. There’s nothing nicer than getting into a lovely clean fresh bed.

Serrina · 02/07/2025 18:24

If he's like this, I completely understand why you have separated bedrooms. YANBU

Taytayslayslay · 02/07/2025 18:27

My DP has a painful skin condition (can't remember it's name) where his skin sheds so badly, it's like snow in the morning lol. Cause of this my bedding gets changed roughly every 5 days. If it's been a really bad flare up I change it as soon as we are up. My kids is every 1 to 2 weeks depending on how clean they are. This week my youngest has had hers changed 3 times because of a sickness bug 😭😭 fortunately the weather's been great for washing and drying quickly.

Nousernameforme · 02/07/2025 18:33

Kateb12 · 01/07/2025 13:19

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

In this weather? 🤢🤢🤢

independentfriend · 02/07/2025 18:33

I think not your problem or really your business since you're not sleeping in that bed unless you're going to say someone in the household has norovirus or something else infectious that is transmitted via surfaces.

You can apply your own standards to your bed.

Though yes, he obviously does need to change the bed linen before anyone else sleeps there.

Unnecessary washing= a waste of water and electricity and isn't great for the longevity of the items and it's an additional job for someone so it's a waste of people's time.

But definitions of what's too frequently vs. not frequent enough washing for bed linen vary a lot.

Agix · 01/07/2025 14:22

Gosh I'd gross most of mumsnet out with how little I change my sheets. I'm not gonna say. They get changed more often than if DH was left to his own devices though hahaha.

Me too

What Flithy f**ker stuff do you do? Curious?

Loudash237 · 02/07/2025 18:41

Your husband is a scuff & so are a lot of those commenting. Your bedding should be changed at least once a week. This is exactly why you can’t eat in everyone’s house cause if you’re not keeping your bed clean, guarantee the rest of your house is also scuffy.

Dancingintherain09 · 02/07/2025 18:42

Yep? Our bedding is fine every Tuesday, the kids bedding every Thursday.

Potatosaladsalsa · 02/07/2025 18:46

When I slept in a bed alone (and it was cool out) I’d change mine once a month - I’m also an evening showerer so they stayed fresh and smelt of washing powder the whole time. Very normal INMHO - my parter and I now also don’t change bedding that frequently

Loudash237 · 02/07/2025 18:46

You are unclean, stop using the planet as an excuse for your lack of hygiene.

Yuck.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 02/07/2025 18:50

lf he does l suggest she gets him a Waterpoof Wipe down Social Services type mattress. And overnight incontinence pads.

Just having a larf.

Some older men seem to think. There is something very individualistic: atttactive and ultimately irresistable about their body emissions, secretions and everday dirt.

Essence of Man ???

Well yea….. if I wear a nightie, I need to put pants on…. And if I have pyjamas on, I’m not going commando 🤣 and having the seam sei ing my snatch crazy.

putting on clean pjs every night means my bed is kept cleaner for longer.

yep…. Definitely eye opening!
