DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

5 months is my experience of STBEXDH 's case...

Kateb12 · 01/07/2025 13:19

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

sweetpickle2 · 01/07/2025 13:22

Eh, I do every fortnight but occasionally I miss a couple of weeks if I'm busy/away and am probably at a month before it's changed. Nobody dies.

PolyCat · 01/07/2025 13:24

I change my sheets every week so I feel your pain. You sweat through the night, spread body oils etc that feed dust mites.. that are linked to several skin conditions and can cause allergic reactions. YMMV of course

MathsMum3 · 01/07/2025 13:31

I think it depends if you're a "shower in the morning" or "shower in the evening" person. If you shower before bed so that the bedroom is a "clean space", 4 weeks is a bit of a stretch but not horribly gross. If you shower mornings then you're bringing the day's grime to your bed every night, so I'd be changing bedding every week or so.

At lest my high horse will have clean sheets. most cogent adults do not 'shit' or 'piss' in bed. 4 weeks of stale, sweaty sheets. Honestly revolting.

Agix · 01/07/2025 14:22

Gosh I'd gross most of mumsnet out with how little I change my sheets. I'm not gonna say. They get changed more often than if DH was left to his own devices though hahaha.

Bars so high your husband sleeps in another bed haha

Cynic17 · 01/07/2025 14:27

It won't kill him, it's fine.

Parky04 · 01/07/2025 14:40

We wash bedding every 3 weeks in the winter and 2 weeks in the summer. I say we, but DH does all of the washing (he has the dates in his calender the sad git!).

frontwoman001 · 01/07/2025 14:44

I don't know how long my XH left the sheets on the bed but they were heavily stained and quite smelly. The pillow, too.

Dartmoorcheffy · 01/07/2025 14:45

He's the one happy to sleep in it so why should you care?

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2025 14:45

It’s not great but tbh op is tell you bugger off and leave Me alone if I were him.

london111 · 01/07/2025 14:46

You are being ridiculous. We are heading towards a country wide water shortage, not to mention damage to planet with overuse of detergents. I think people who push an agenda to constantly wash things (washing towels every week!) are utterly selfish with the planet’s limited resources. But worse they then start to try and make the rest of us feel ‘unclean’. Ridiculous.

How often do you wash your towels?

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 01/07/2025 14:47

Eh, it's a bit gross but it's hardly the end of the world.

You're not sleeping in them, at least.

upandleftthenright · 01/07/2025 14:48

Why is he in the other bedroom? Are you separated? If so, it’s none of your business

FlowerPower2525 · 01/07/2025 14:48

That's disgusting imo. I do all 5 beds each week. 10 days maximum

Mymanyellow · 01/07/2025 14:50

Four weeks is too long. I aim for weekly but if it’s pissing down and likely to be sunny the next day or day after I’ll wait. But never four weeks.

Erh...yeah it's gross. Personal hygiene, self-respect and all that. Particularly in the heat...Bet the room stinks too.

Be grateful that he's not in your bed OP!

Codlingmoths · 01/07/2025 14:50

This thread is astonishing. I thought I was bordering on slovenly by changing bedsheets every fortnight because it’s as often as we can manage.

london111 · 01/07/2025 14:52

Cosyblankets · 01/07/2025 14:47

How often do you wash your towels?

One a month. I am clean when I come out of the shower, dead skin cells having being rubbed off and washed away in the shower.

any comment on the more important point on water usage and the state of the planet? And that there is zero scientific evidence that washing sheets/towels weekly makes one iota of difference to your health?

Do you not wash towels because you use paper ones instead to recycle and save the planet?

I'm guessing you must do because the substantial water consumption of growing cotton is very widely known, so you couldn't possibly use cotton towels. Or bedding.

saraclara · 01/07/2025 14:53

When I had to wrestle with the king sized duvet, bed linen was washed fortnightly. Now that my cleaner does the wrestling, I launder it weekly!
