DH not changed bedding for 4 weeks

He's in a separate bedroom. Flithy f**ker not changed his bed for 4 weeks, so this morning I asked him if he was thinking of changing his sheets as he's been in them for 4 weeks.....he doesn't have a clue how long they've been on....If I had not mentioned it, I wonder how long he'd have kept them on.
He's in our son's room and he's coming back end of July so have ordered some nice new bedding for him 😄

My husband comes home to a clean, orderly house. He works hard to support our family so at the very least I can make the bed.

The 1950s rang, they want their time machine back...

Does his room/bedding stink? Does he smoke/eat in bed/ have incontinence?

As long as he cleans it fully for your son's return it's up to him how often he changes it. Unless it's genuinely causing a health hazard.

But it sounds like you're not going to be sharing a bed with him which is fair enough. There's no reason why you should clean all the sheets. Can he sleep on a camping bed? Or does he have another home to go to?

This made me laugh 😆no he doesn't do any of those things in bed...and yes he'll clean the room and strips and makes up his own bed and will wash the bedding......eventually!
I've had a major op so he moved bedrooms a couple of months ago and tbh I'm really loving it.
However, I do wish he had another home to go to! 😆😆😆

What’s the point of marriage? 🤷‍♀️

Thank you. I'm glad you see I was trying to be humorous. I hope you stay in your bedroom and put a lock on the door! X

But why? I had a major op years ago it didn't require my dh moving into a dc's room.
It's all a bit weird with the sheet checking.

Partnership. Respecting each other. Not expecting one to uphold very dated values when both are perfectly capable.

Gloriia · 01/07/2025 15:48

Have you checked his underpants op?

In addition to wanting to do your utmost which includes changing sheets.

Does respecting each other include kicking spouse into a kids room months ago and checking their bedding laundering schedule?

Thanks everyone for your replies - you gotta love MN for a mixed bag of responses!
Ok will leave skanky man to his own bed stripping schedule 😆(note to self to boil wash bedding when it does materialise....)

I’d take it straight to the tip. Twice a week bed change here especially in the summer

Nannyfannybanny · 01/07/2025 15:51

I have a relative almost 70,with a disabled son, she changes her bedding daily.i used to be once a week merchant, but a king-size bed, arthritis of hands and wrists it's now 2 weeks for the bottom sheet and duvet cover weekly for the pillow cases. I only use a hand towel because I can't physically hold a bath size towel. Why would you not help someone who has been ill,had an operation.

Exactly. My daughter is a highly paid professional. I'd hate her to end up with someone who expected her to always change the sheets "because mummy always did it at home".

I've tried sleeping on towels but I still soak all the way through, I mean I'm dripping from every part of my body, it's disgusting, sometimes I wake up and my finger tips are pruned.
Any helpful suggestions welcome, no one wants to be stripping and making up a double bed everyday do they.

I'm not medically trained and obv have no idea of your health, diet, whether you're perimenopausal/menopausal etc, but low vitamin B12 can cause night sweats. Obviously you can take a supplement, or injections are even more effective and easily available - ask your GP to get tested. You can also get them from UK highstreet chemists etc (like Superdrug's health clinics) - they're pretty affordable.

Also possible you might be low in magnesium - that can be linked to night sweats, too. There are loads of types out there but magnesium oxide is one of the least absorbable forms, so you could try magnesium malate, glycinate or citrate instead. Personally, I've found a brand called ReMag to be by far the most effective for absorption - take a few drops in some water. Tastes bleurgh but easy to knock back - take it in the evening, about an hour before bed. Can buy it from botanicahealth.co.uk or amazon. Costs about £35 but a bottle lasts me around 9 months.

OP said they are recovering from major op, made no reference of her kicking him out. So yes, I'd say that is very respectful of both: him respecting her need for space to recover safely without someone risking hitting or bumping them in the night, and her respecting his need for a full night sleep without being awoken by winces of pain.

TulipTiptoer · 01/07/2025 15:58

Bedding should be changed every single week.

Who passed that law? Because I would've written to my MP if I'd known!

Once a fortnight, but I am not a sweaty person in the slightest and shower frequently.

As for washing towels every day, don't some people have a life??? That's ridiculous and so bad for the planet.

Unless they have a single bed they'd have plenty of space. Many of us have had major surgery you don't need a double bed all to oneself.
Fine sleep separately but the sheet checking is ott.

Your utmost....what? Honestly gender stereotyping of roles in 2025 is ridiculous. Are you being financially or emotionally abused by your DH? Are you safe?

What would happen if say, just once, you unclenched and let him change the bed sheets....or if you decided to get a PT job, god forbid!?

im always WTF at things like this So if he didnt have a family he wouldnt be working and claiming dole?

sweetpickle2 · 01/07/2025 13:22

Eh, I do every fortnight but occasionally I miss a couple of weeks if I'm busy/away and am probably at a month before it's changed. Nobody dies.

I don’t wait for somebody to die before I change our bed…changed weekly here.

Eh? If he didn't have a family then...he wouldn't have a family. Why does that mean he wouldn't work? 🤷‍♀️

Yes you have a high bar for someone else's bed.

Oh god help us.............look she said he works because of his family so i said so he wouldnt bother to work if he didnt have one then. Its quite straightforward

Unless he shits or pisses the bed it's not that big a deal.

get off your high horse.

In this heat though? Unless he's showering before bed they will be pretty grim by now.

Ohtobemycat · 01/07/2025 16:10

I son't wasb mine until my husband does..he does it about once a fortnight.
I do enough other stuff and he is particular about it.
If it was me on my own I would do it every two to three weeks I reckon.

fffiona · 01/07/2025 16:14

Genuine question (and not because I'm a skanky mare why doesn't change her bedding) but the other day I was wondering what the huge difference was between a bed and a sofa. I wear long-legged pyjamas and a t shirt to bed as a minimum so no more of me touches the bed than when I'm slobbing on the sofa. Most people would wash their sheets every two weeks or so, but how often do you clean your sofa?
