People who wrap up warm even in a heatwave

Summerevenimgchill · 29/06/2025 19:26

Whenever there’s a heatwave I always notice a few people dressed really warm. We were at an outdoor event on Saturday, it was very hot where we are and everyone was in shorts/t-shirts/dresses. There was a guy in jeans and a big hoodie. I don’t know how he coped.

I’ve even seen people in woolly hats and puffer coats.

Do some people just not get hot?

There was a 20 something running parkrun in tracksuit bottoms and a zip up hoodie yesterday. He wasn't even that slow.

DinoLil · 29/06/2025 19:30

My DF has cancer and sits in jumpers and a blanket.

This.

try not to judge

My dad is a bit like this. He just seems oblivious to it. I’ve asked him why but he hasn’t even thought about it.

NW3Lady · 29/06/2025 19:31

I should add he’s always been like that and it’s not a health issue as far as I know.

user1471505494 · 29/06/2025 19:32

I have noticed this over the last few weeks mainly in and around the supermarket People wearing thick heavy coats scarves and woolly hats

stargirl1701 · 29/06/2025 19:32

My autistic DD can’t dress for the temperature; only for comfort.

Kreepture · 29/06/2025 19:32

my friend does. she is from California and lived in Florida too, she doesn't think is that warm lol.

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2025 19:34

Well I’m not in puffa jackets or woolly hats but I’m currently lying under my electric blanket and it’s apparently 26 degrees in my front room.
i just don’t really get hot, mostly feel chilly. I’m not feeling chilly right now, but I do like the security of having a layer over me. Literally a security blanket!
I’m constantly cold in the office much to everyone else’s absolute shock! I’ve had to buy a blanket just to keep there, my hands are the worst bit in the office.
Even as a kid my mum says on hot days when we were having big family picnics I was rolling about wrapped up in a blanket.

Whataloadoffuss · 29/06/2025 19:36

I've noticed this with teenagers, either no clothes, or puffa coats. I understand everybody is different, but it must be so sweaty!

I’m so sorry to hear that.

i do hope that your dh gets well.

My thread isn’t intended to be mean so i hope I haven’t offended you.

My nan used to think if it keeps out the cold, it keeps out the heat!

WhatNoRaisins · 29/06/2025 19:37

I think some of us have a preferred way to dress and some are more stubborn than others.

Newmeagain · 29/06/2025 19:38

If someone is unwell then it makes sense.

But I have also seen teenagers in hoodies/puffer coats in very hot weather. I am afraid to say they looked they were going for a street gang aesthetic, which is I think incompatible with shorts and T-shirts. But it looks very hot!

This is my understanding of why someone I know does this. They’ll roll sleeves up on their jumper sometimes but are otherwise covered as usual.

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · 29/06/2025 19:40

My husband does this. Sadly he has really poor body image and won’t wear t-shirts and shorts in public. Even on holiday abroad in the summer he’ll wear long trousers and a jumper.

Figcherry · 29/06/2025 19:48

My dh goes for a run every Sunday morning. It was 31c where we are this morning.
He still went for a run.

That’s made me quite sad.

Although I do get it. My dad is really funny and I don’t think he’d wear shorts out. Dh will only wear dark colours but he does wear shorts/t-shirts.

Ironically for my dad it’s bring too skinny for dh he thinks he’s too fat.

People shouldn’t be hot/uncomfortable because of body imagine.

To be fair, it’s freezing in supermarkets.

DoYouReally · 29/06/2025 19:55

I was thinking this earlier when I walked by our local takeaway. There were about ten Deliveroo drivers all fully dressed up with biking gear and those heavy Deliveroo jackets - it couldn't be comfortable.

LouiseTopaz · 29/06/2025 19:59

I'm one of these people, I rarely get hot or sweaty

Zov · 29/06/2025 20:00

Must admit I have not seen this personally.

minipie · 29/06/2025 20:03

They may have immigrated from hotter countries and don’t find it all that hot

Same as Northerners who move to London and are always in shorts …

Longtimeloiterer · 29/06/2025 20:03

I'm always cold. It's only this week that I've stopped wearing a cardigan or dressing gown and have stopped putting a throw on my legs.

I'm quite healthy, just a cold body.

🥶

It’s been up to 30 degrees here this week.

Do you wear a coat? Or just long sleeves.
