People who wrap up warm even in a heatwave

Whenever there’s a heatwave I always notice a few people dressed really warm. We were at an outdoor event on Saturday, it was very hot where we are and everyone was in shorts/t-shirts/dresses. There was a guy in jeans and a big hoodie. I don’t know how he coped.

I’ve even seen people in woolly hats and puffer coats.

Do some people just not get hot?

I do wonder how those who need to wear thick uniforms, such as soldiers on parade - Trooping the Colour for example in 25c+ heat.

They wear jackets made from wool, not allowed to have top button undone.

Have sandals but don’t like wearing them. Firstly when driving once about 18 years ago, my foot got wedged between the pedal and sandal.
Secondly, I don’t like my feet getting dirty, the sensation of bits of stone going between toes. It makes me shudder when I see people on planes barefoot. Those carpets don’t get cleaned often and don’t start me on the airplane toilets

I was at the beach the other day. We were all in swimwear, and there were people sat on the sand in jeans, hoodies and trainers. If boggles the mind. There's wanting to be covered up, and there's jeans and hoodies. That's different. My DH thought it was maybe to do with financial issues like unable to afford summer clothes.

As soon as it hits 12', DH is in shorts. I don't think he's worn trousers since march!

I have a cardigan and rain jacket on atm even though it is going to be 28 degrees because I left the house at 5:30am and won't get home until after 8pm. It is not that warm at 5 30am or at 8pm, not when you are stood waiting in buses. If I get hot in the office I'll take my cardigan off but for standing waiting for buses its easier just to wear it.

Also I get cold really easily because I don't always eat enough and I used to be 8 stone heavier so I'm used to having a thick layer of insulation to keep me warm.

I'm equally amazed at people wearing dresses and sandals or shorts in 20° weather whilst I'm wearing winter clothes 😂. I'm happy to wear summer clothes at 25° plus though. I'm happiest at 30°.

In winter I have a hot water bottle and heated blankets, thick duvet and sleep in long sleeve pj's and socks. It's miserable. I think I was a lizard in a previous life 😅

Oakcupboard · 30/06/2025 07:02

I don’t wear big coats or hats, but I’m always in long sleeves and trousers to hide my fatness 🙈

DS and I commented on this the other day. We walked past a group of teenagers all wearing thick black puffa jackets and thick baggy jeans. They must all do it to 'look cool', unlikely they've all got a medical condition. They must stink under all those clothes.

Penguinslove · 30/06/2025 07:09

I saw someone post about them being in Florida and finally had the courage to wear something other than a hoodie. It was due to self harming marks on their arms. It opened my eyes and I felt so sorry for them.

My autistic DD can’t dress for the temperature; only for comfort.

I have the same issue with my Autistic dd she dresses for comfort not the weather.

Yes that’s it, I get people wanting to cover up.

But wouldn’t you just wear something thin in a cool
material. Not a massive puffer coat?

If you genuinely feel cold I get it. No one should be melting in a heatwave in thick clothing, it could be dangerous.

Is it affecting you at all? Thought not.
Live, and let live.

She’s just commenting on life - there’s nothing wrong with that.

I dont really understand what is curious about jeans?

What trousers wouldnt make you curious?

It was just because it’s a hot day and jeans are quite thick. I don’t see them as being summer clothing and most other people were in shorts or skirts. Jeans themselves aren’t strange, but above 25° I don’t think there’d be much ventilation under denim. Wouldn’t be curious about linen or some other thin fabric

I have horrible skin on my upper arms and have basically never revealed them. From a teen until now (40s). I even wear long sleeved swimming costumes. I wish I could shake it Im quite relaxed about everything else but this I'm still really touchy about.

I think the most important think is that you're comfortable. I hate the skin on my lower stomach, after dcs ripped it apart during pregnancy. I also hate my upper inner thighs at the very top, always self-conscious. I've noticed that lately, I need to work on toning, I'm pushing 40.

My son will wear a school jumper all of the time because he doesn't like the buttons on his school polo top being on view 🤣.

Coco1379 · 13/07/2025 01:23

I am on medication that makes me more vulnerable to skin cancer, so I sit in the shade, covered from ankles to neck and shoulders to wrists, with a huge brimmed hat!

shuggles · 13/07/2025 17:42

@Summerevenimgchill The issue with shorts and t-shirts is that they expose skin to the sun, and the sun causes a lot of damage to skin. That's why people who have a lot of sun exposure look very old and worn out.

The guy in the jeans and hoodie may have been warm, but at least he will have avoided sun damage.
