People who wrap up warm even in a heatwave

Summerevenimgchill · 29/06/2025 19:26

Whenever there’s a heatwave I always notice a few people dressed really warm. We were at an outdoor event on Saturday, it was very hot where we are and everyone was in shorts/t-shirts/dresses. There was a guy in jeans and a big hoodie. I don’t know how he coped.

I’ve even seen people in woolly hats and puffer coats.

Do some people just not get hot?

Each individual feels temperature differently to the next person. Not that surprising is it.

Well that is true, but I think it’s fair to say that most (the majority) people in the UK will find 25-30 degrees quite hot.

It is quite unusual to see people wearing puffer coats, woolly hats and hoodies during heatwaves.

I’m sun burnt in shirts just saw a woman in opaque tights and knee length boots with a long sleeve , knee length dress on.

At least she won’t have got sun burnt

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/06/2025 20:53

There was a group of young teen lads at the station yesterday wearing jeans and Canada Goose jackets 🤔

This is in London wher it has been 30 degrees for the last couple of days.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 29/06/2025 20:54

I have an underactive thyroid and am peri. Im freezing all the time, unless I'm having a hot flush 😳

Sera1989 · 29/06/2025 20:54

I’ve seen a couple of people today in jeans which I think is very curious. I wonder what they’ll be wearing tomorrow. I was on my way to the beach the other day, 27° and muggy, and saw a couple of people in full tracksuits, another person in a plastic rain coat. I used to be underweight and was very cold all year round so I kind of get it, but I also don’t because now that I’m a healthy weight I feel like shorts and a crop top is too hot when it’s sunny (from one extreme to the other 😕)

My DH was in jeans today, and he’ll be in jeans tomorrow.

I'm still wearing a cardigan, long trousers or tights. I'm perpetually cold anyway but really anaemic so even colder at the moment.

My dad has dementia and can't regulate his temperature. He's still wearing jumpers and a coat.

I dont really understand what is curious about jeans?

What trousers wouldnt make you curious?

RaindropRoseWhiskers · 29/06/2025 21:00

It has to be really warm before I shed clothes and I've never really worn shorts or skirts. The winter duvet is still on, Im just comfortable. It's freezing in autumn and winter (and most of spring!). People whinging about a few hot weeks in the year do irk me, when some of us struggle for the other 45 wks.

Yeah I’m not judging, just making an observation.

I can see that there are all sorts of reasons from people not feeling heat to having body insecurities/hang ups.

I think I have the opposite problem that I get very hot.

@soupyspoon I think the curiosity is most people would find close fitting denim a bit uncomfortable when it is 30 degrees.

Tinatubby73 · 29/06/2025 21:08

My daughter is 20 and always in a hoodie even in the hot weather she has anemia so I think that's why she's always cold

SunshineDeLaSoul · 29/06/2025 21:08

Maybe they’re on the fat jabs. I’m always freezing

Yuja · 29/06/2025 21:16

This is me. I really find it hard to get warm - I find even a breeze intolerable. Also my body is skinny and ugly and I feel self conscious about it!

HonoriaBulstrode · 29/06/2025 21:22

I don't wear low necked or sleeveless/very short sleeved tops, but that's because I burn very easily. I wish more summer tops had collars that cover the back of the neck.

Foolsgold74 · 29/06/2025 21:43

I can't bear the heat and am constantly boiling but I hate exposing my skin and like to feel cosy too, so I'm currently on the sofa with a blanket over me and the fan on full blast!

Choppedcoriander · 29/06/2025 21:47

I would never wear shorts and a T-shirt and nor would DH. We both always wear long sleeves and DH always wears trousers.

ScratCat · 29/06/2025 21:49

I’m someone that rarely, if ever feels hot. We sat outside today and I was in shorts, but under a blanket.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 29/06/2025 21:49

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2025 19:34

Well I’m not in puffa jackets or woolly hats but I’m currently lying under my electric blanket and it’s apparently 26 degrees in my front room.
i just don’t really get hot, mostly feel chilly. I’m not feeling chilly right now, but I do like the security of having a layer over me. Literally a security blanket!
I’m constantly cold in the office much to everyone else’s absolute shock! I’ve had to buy a blanket just to keep there, my hands are the worst bit in the office.
Even as a kid my mum says on hot days when we were having big family picnics I was rolling about wrapped up in a blanket.

Well that's just plain weird, sitting under an electric blanket when your room is 26 degrees.

XenoBitch · 29/06/2025 21:50

Is it affecting you at all? Thought not.
Live, and let live.

Serencwtch · 29/06/2025 21:58

Anorexia or reynauds (feel cold when others are warm)

Autism - often dress the same in 'safe' clothing regardless of weather

Body confidence - some people need to cover up in baggy or heavier clothing in order to feel confident out in public.

Does it matter?

Katemax82 · 29/06/2025 22:01

My autistic son used to insist on always having a hood on even in hot weather. Last week I just had to not put his jacket on for school as it was so hot, luckily he's growing out of that phase but a year ago it was impossible to have him walk around even in summer without a hood (i hot him a thin jacket). He still won't wear shorts

localnotail · 29/06/2025 22:08

I have seen people today wearing North Face jackets. Those big black puffy ones. I would die if I put one on in 30 degrees, compulsory gang fashion or not.

ButteredRadish · 29/06/2025 22:11

My ex did this as he hated how thin his arms & legs were. He refused to wear shorts as he said “I look like a 2 pin plug” 🤭
