Do you iron?

Aibu not to iron? I own an iron somewhere, it’s about 20 years old and may or may not still work. I use it very very occasionally if I’m going out in something that needs ironing.

YABU - ironing is a task that should be done on all clothes

YANBU - ironing should never be done, or only very very occasionally.

Very, very rarely. Once or twice a year.

We just fold clothes as soon as they come out of the dryer.

Chocolateismylovelife · 25/06/2025 07:32

Yes I do. I don’t have a dryer.

Radra · 25/06/2025 07:32

Mostly not. I have a handful of things that I really like but do require ironing - I get the dry cleaner to do it 😬

PicaK · 25/06/2025 07:33

I bought a new ironing board 8 years ago. Still in its wrapper. I'm not sure if the iron works tbh.

Steelworks · 25/06/2025 07:33

Yes, I iron (nearly) everything.

DappledThings · 25/06/2025 07:34

I iron pretty much everything because I much prefer how it fits in the drawers. Folding ironed things is less annoying for me than folding non-ironed.

But as I do it for me and not anyone else I have no judgement of anyone who chooses not to. I have never noticed if anyone else's clothes are ironed or not.

Loveduppenguin · 25/06/2025 07:34

yes…I can absolutely tell the difference between clothes not ironed and clothes that are.

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/06/2025 07:34

I do own an iron but don’t actually know where it is. I get stuff dry cleaned and day-to-day I use a steamer if I need to.

OnionsNotBunions · 25/06/2025 07:34

Weekly and everything that needs it, so shirts, t-shirts, trousers, blouses, skirts, jumpers & sweatshirts (if they need it), dresses, pillow cases and duvet covers. Get it done early on Sat morning and love having it done. I feel scruffy in unironed clothes and like the look and feel of ironed bedlinen.

peidhDassffeks · 25/06/2025 07:34

My child’s school shirts only or the odd top that I then rarely wear due to needing ironing but I don’t actually get stressed if she wears a non ironed ones. If someone judges me for my clothing being non ironed then I don’t want to be friends with them so that’s easy

Zanatdy · 25/06/2025 07:34

only linen trousers or if going to a wedding / funeral type of event. Years ago I ironed everything, but not anymore.

FrostyMorn · 25/06/2025 07:35

Hardly ever but I expect I look the scruffier for it.

If a t shirt or something is really creased I use my hair straighteners on it to tidy up the edges!

KurtCobainLover · 25/06/2025 07:36

Yes, I iron everything as I prefer the way ironed clothes feel. It takes my about an hour a week to get all done and I find it relaxing.

CharlotteBakewell · 25/06/2025 07:36

I rarely iron.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2025 07:37

I do iron - we’ve lots of cotton clothes and they really do look better for it - but YANBU to not iron if you don’t want to.

all DDs school shirts were non-iron though, life is certainly too short to have been doing them!

It’s not my favourite job but ok on a rainy Sunday afternoon with the radio on.

BoobsOnTheMoon · 25/06/2025 07:37

I don't iron or own a dryer.

Stripeyanddotty · 25/06/2025 07:38

We are all ironers in this house.
Everyone does their own though.

Foxtrotbeta · 25/06/2025 07:38

I never iron. My husband does his work shirts and then we have a hand held steamer for the couple of linen items and 1 shirt that I own. The steamer is so fast and convenient, highly recommend! If I'm going somewhere smart I might steam a dress as I agree they do look a bit smarter.

Rachie1973 · 25/06/2025 07:38

I think I put my iron in the skip when I moved.

Mustwalkmore · 25/06/2025 07:38

I iron the occcasional top that’s all.

MaisieMacabe · 25/06/2025 07:38

Yes. I don't have polyester clothes or anything like leggings etc which don't need it. I wear cotton or linen clothes to work, and the shirts in particular need to be ironed.
I think it's about lifestyle though. People who wfh and just wear joggers etc, I can see they wouldn't be bothered.

hellooomynameisbillyballoonhead · 25/06/2025 07:38

Good god no. Life is too short! I have a steamer that I use if absolutely necessary but generally I don't and nothing really needs it.

Mother in law however irons EVERYTHING - pants, bedding....the lot. She's generally baffled that I don't!

YodasHairyButt · 25/06/2025 07:38

Many years ago a friend came to visit. She watched me carefully ironing a pile of babygros, pants and vests and eventually looked quizzically at me and said “what on earth are you doing?” At that moment I realised my obvious lunacy and haven’t ironed a damn thing since! 🤣

Mark's and Spencer's do non iron school shirts. Used them for my kids. No tumble dryer either

SchnizelVonKrumm · 25/06/2025 07:39

Not as often as I ought to. Many clothes are fine without but people who think that nothing ever needs ironing are kidding themselves.
