I don’t want to do an escape room.

Partner wants me to go to an escape room with him. I don’t want to go as I am claustrophobic. This does not mean I am awkward, I went to Paris with my daughter and I enjoyed that and no I do not speak French but I did German at school and can still remember some of that. Anxiety can sometimes appear as awkward behaviour. I do suffer with some anxiety but that is possibly connected to claustrophobia.

I felt claustrophobic and would hesitate to do it again

Enough4me · 20/06/2025 23:19

Do you often struggle to make sense?

TheShed7 · 20/06/2025 23:21

I've always said that people who don't like escape rooms would also not like Paris..... It's such an obvious link

Icepop79 · 20/06/2025 23:21

I’ve done a few escape rooms. If it helps at all you’re never actually locked in - you can literally walk out of the door at any time. I enjoy them and like the puzzle solving but they’re not for everyone. If you don’t want to do one, just say it’s not your thing.

Neveranynamesleft · 20/06/2025 23:21

Have you been drinking ?

AMillionTomorrows · 20/06/2025 23:22

If you don’t want to do it thats the end of the matter. No one should be pushing you to do something you don’t want to.

IamSmarticus · 20/06/2025 23:22

What the heck has learning German at school got to do with an escape room?

What doesn’t make sense?

ShesTheAlbatross · 20/06/2025 23:24

Don’t go then? Just say you don’t want to.

But you’re not actually locked in. They don’t do that. It’s like any other room you’ve been in - you can just walk to the door and leave.

Mum4MrA · 20/06/2025 23:24

You aren’t locked in. We did one and were able to walk out the (second) door at any time. There was also a door that was locked as part of the game.

Thank you, it’s helpful to know that you’re not locked in at any point.

What doesn’t make sense?

The learning German at school while going to Paris and the completely irrelevance of both to an escape room.

I was talking about speaking French.

I didn’t speak German in Paris, I can remember a little bit of German from school however.

No, you specifically said 'but I did German at school and remember some of that.'

Have you had a few wines tonight?

What has any of that got to do with an escape room?

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 20/06/2025 23:29

Why are people being such dicks? The OP is making perfect sense.
They're just saying that they suffer from anxiety and wonder if they'd be unreasonable not to go, or whether would enjoy it.
That sometimes anxiety makes you come across as just trying to be awkward for the sake of it, when you're not. Which it does.
That they tried something out of the comfort zone by going to Paris and was ok.
So saying "AIBU" to say I don't want to go to an escape room?"

The post would be less confusing if this bit was removed as it doesn't seem connected to anything else: I went to Paris with my daughter and I enjoyed that and no I do not speak French but I did German at school and can still remember some of that.

Has the sun gone to yours and others heads and making you take it out on MNetters?

Owt · 20/06/2025 23:32

No I have not been drinking and if I had it wouldn’t be wine. Not everyone drinks wine.

What's an escape room got to do with Paris? Am I missing something?

saraclara · 20/06/2025 23:33

This does not mean I am awkward, I went to Paris with my daughter and I enjoyed that...

She's explaining that she's not averse to doing new things.

I went to Paris which means I can do things I am anxious about. My daughter wanted to go to Paris.
