To not feel very sorry for woman stuck in Turkey.

I was reading about a woman stuck in Turkey. She was there with her partner who was having teeth implants. So they got drunk and she fell against the glasss shower screen in the hotel. And it smashed. So they did a runner. Police chase. Got caught put in jail. Told they owed £15k or else. Sad face. Hmm. Though it does seem very steep for a shower screen.

No it's 2.4k

Yeah, I thought it was a smallish amount when I looked but couldn't remember.

Ah yes, you are right. I didn't see the . there. Should have put my glasses on before reading!

It wasn't a simple shower screen. The hotel bathrooms have glass screens instead of a wall between them and the bedroom part, they usually have built in blinds or a system to change them to frosted for privacy. Either way, we're not talking a few hundred quid B&Q style screen! Goodness knows what she threw at it to break it.

It's one that separated the bathroom from the bedroom and you can find images online. Nothing would cost £15k, it's also turkey where they manufacture the items

Natural consequences comes to mind. I’m happy with them staying out there for as long as necessary. Maybe some hard labour to work off the fine.

She has a daughter though. I know they’ve behaved very badly trying to run away and such, but to indefinitely detain her seems cruel to her child.

In the gofundme it says her family raised the money she needed to pay but then she didn't pay it because the lawyer said it's too much, so instead the money is dwindling on her living expenses over there🤔🤔

🙄🤔😂😂

LittleGreenDuck · 20/06/2025 14:25

I read that GFM link, particularly liked the part where she said "I asked for a lawyer, because that's what we do at home". No stranger to this process then!

And yes, reading her account makes it very clear why she needs her anti psychotics.

Bruisername · 20/06/2025 14:27

She isn’t being illegally detained

I suspect there will come a point that she either pays or does time

mummytrex · 20/06/2025 14:27

Zero sympathy. The Go Fund Me page is devoid of genuine remorse or accountability. She has psychosis and depression and chose to drink alcohol which likely isn't compatible with the medication she is on. By her own admission she smashed up the room and in the process broke the shower screen.

Rather than try to be clever she ought to just pay the £15k rather than spend £££ on staying out there and lawyers fees.

MinistryofThyme · 20/06/2025 14:29

If she truly cared about getting back to her daughter she would have paid the fine with the money she had an available, and come home.

kkloo · 20/06/2025 14:30

It's not even clear from the gofundme what she's intending to use the money for.

I’m totally thrown off by the concept of ‘celebrating her boyfriend getting veneers’

Indeed! It's not a special card I've seen anywhere...

I bet someone here will design one for us now. Go on... 😂

And why is she only asking for the £2.4K? What’s that going to get her?

I thought it was odd when the article said she had spent 7k on living expenses while over there.... why wouldn't you put that 7k towards the repairs 😅

Soal · 20/06/2025 09:42

Of course I feel sorry for her, she's in fucking jail, it's not as funny as you think it is.

But she's stupid and common and drunk, she deserves it right, hahahahaha.

Its all about an appropriate locus of control, perhaps that needs to be taught in school. And for me sadness for her child.

Shes enough money for eyebrows and fillers and teeth and to go on a holiday without her child and to get drunk and to perhaps buy drugs. That’s hard to square that she couldn’t go to reception and apologise and offer to pay.

Makes no sense whatsoever, if you think the mafia are involved and everyone is corrupt and you have the money then you pay the money and get the hell out of there!!

£15k wouldn't just be for the shower screen - it would include labour costs and lost revenue for the nights the hotel can't rent out the room until it's fixed. And if the "Turkish police are notoriously brutal", this couple should have known that and behaved themselves.
As for your "honest appraisal of the facts" to use Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Kate and Gerry McCann as convenient middle-class comparators to this woman is ignorant in the extreme. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe took her daughter on holiday to Iran to visit her parents and was convicted and imprisoned for "plotting to overthrow the Iranian Govt", but no evidence was provided for this charge whatsoever. It's widely accepted that her conviction and imprisonment were politically motivated and should never have happened - they were trumped up charges designed to pressurise the British Govt. Kate and Gerry McCann had dinner with their friendship group (not "a night drinking" as you disingenuously wrote) within their holiday complex within sight of their own apartment - they aren't the first parents to do this on holiday and they won't be the last, but despite being doctors, they have been regularly and viciously attacked in the press and on (anti)social media, which defeats your argument about them getting special treatment (the Met' police became involved in their case because the Portuguese police had proven themselves to be incompetent).
This woman's DD and the relative danger of Turkey are irrelevant. She committed criminal damage and then tried to evade justice (repeatedly). To attempt to compare her case to those of Zaghari-Ratcliffe and the McCanns is ludicrous and hugely insulting to them considering the appalling injustices they've suffered.

Was rather puzzled by the comparison also, odd. Don't thank Nazanin or the mcCanns took drugs and too much alcohol (then trashed a hotel room) so comparison is ridiculous.
Nowt strange as folks though🤔

MarySueSaidBoo · 20/06/2025 14:56

It doesn't add up that she's spent £7k in 6 weeks living in "cheap hotels" and how much did that tattoo cost?! She's also claiming she can buy her medication over the counter even after going cold turkey for 2 weeks. Strikes me that she's having a ball out there at her family's expense - and let's hope the DWP are watching this.

Silly girl will likely get evicted for non payment of rent, her benefits stopped and her DD is in the care of relatives.... all because she smashed a hotel room up, did a runner and now won't pay the fine. I bet she's never done a days work in her life to have any concept of the value of money.

kellygoeswest · 20/06/2025 15:01

Her GoFundMe says her family/friends sent her £15k but she decided to spend £2.5k on a lawyer (to try and reduce the £15k) and has since spent £7,500 on hotels and food over the last 6 weeks? Edit: she even got a tattoo with that money!

I'm finding it hard to feel sympathetic given this + her retelling of the events.

Good to see the Daily Mail doesn’t just ‘show off curves’ but also ‘celebrates veneers’.

I need to thank you for your post. You've summed up the daily mail beautifully

The comments on this thread is the reason I so miss the 😂 reaction button.
I nearly when fainted when I heard there was a gofundme set up 🫣 but not really. Fools and their money.

Zoopet · 20/06/2025 15:12

TBH there's no educating stupid...

Shenmen · 20/06/2025 15:12

AngelicKaty · 20/06/2025 12:48

They're not. She spent one night in jail. Since then she's been living in another hotel, spending the £15k her family raised to pay for the damage on her living expenses instead of handing it over and being free to return to the UK. Stupid is as stupid does.

Or mentally ill does as mentally ill is.

Where did it say she got the tattoo with the money? I would assume she had that done previously.
