To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

I agree that most of these jobs are done by men generally. However, our last boiler service was done by a female gas engineer and she was brilliant. What set her apart from her male counterparts was her willingness to explain things thoroughly, and she also identified an issue that others hadn’t been able to explain. Would love her to do our service annually, but will probably never see her again.

No one evidenced any hatred of men.

Hmm.....

Your post about cutting men up - the one MN deleted - contained quite a bit of hatred towards men.

Of course the OP is winning. They've stated a fact.

Naturally they are unbelievably thick by stating a fact, not an opinion in AIBU, so the poll means nothing.

TheNestedIf · 16/06/2025 23:23

I do my own plastering, painting and decorating. The other jobs I don't do because they require training, tools and time, whilst I've chosen a different profession because, fortunately, those aren't the only jobs that keep society functioning. There is no reason I couldn't do those jobs given training and the right tools, if I wanted.

My post about cutting up men was an ironic, joking reference to Valerie Solanas who wrote a manifesto which I'm not allowed to name. Only one poster picked up on that. Valerie Solanas shot Andy Warhol. Her story is documented in a really good movie starring Val Kilmer called "I shot Andy Warhol." Fantastic movie. Also "Factory girl" starring Sienna Miller about one of the muses he discarded.

Female farmer here 💪

Havanananana · 17/06/2025 19:55

I've lived in 3 European countries - female plumbers, painters and decorators, electricians and white goods engineers/repairers were not uncommon in any of them. Where I now live there are two furniture manufacturers and joinery companies - both employ many female carpenters and cabinet makers. The general handyperson who I use for odd jobs and repairs is female and she has no problems moving heavy materials, doors and cabinet components around - with the right tools and trolleys much of the hard physical part of the work has been alleviated. And as I live in a rural area, I see female farmers every day of the week.

Yes, I know some female farmers, and some female mechanics, and female builders. I mean, all these women doing all these 'mens' jobs. Gosh! 😂

. . . and?

It's amazing how devoid your posts are of any kind of point or opinion.

Like a robot who hasn't quite worked out this whole "human conversation" thing.

Nice. I used to know a 19 year old who was a self employed shepherdess and bricklayer. Cool as.

Christ, but you’re tedious. It wasn’t a very good joke because you were trying to imply that women here would support Valerie Solanas when in fact most haven’t even heard of her, so your smug little “joke” fell flat somewhat.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/06/2025 20:37

I was asked if I had a hobby so I said yes, cutting up men as per Valerie Solanas. It was a joke but in bad taste. Sowwy 😧

Not in bad taste, just weird and not funny.

You still have not stated what your actual point is btw.

When was the last time you had a female roofer, painter and decorator, someone to unblock the drains, the boiler engineer, the plumber, the window cleaner who attended you? Me. NEVER.

And, what's your point?

Most of the care work is done by women. You're not moaning about that, are you?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/06/2025 21:00

Just 1% of manual labour performed by women and 2% in skilled trades like plumbing, electricians etc.

Because men gatekeep those jobs and harrass women out of them. Not because women cannot do them. Sexism.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 17/06/2025 21:43

I'm getting at denigrating men who are doing very hard manual labour. We see it all the time on here. Useless waste of space we don't need etc etc
