To say that most heavy duty physical labour is done by men? When was the last time a female plumber, builder, roofer, painter and decorator, drain unblocker, or boiler or washing machine engineer came to your house?

I recommend the novel "The End of Men" by Christina Sweeney-Baird.

It's about a virus that kills 99% of all men everywhere and how women cope with the changes. A thundering good read (especially if you're gender critical.......😆)

I've has a "random male" in my house for the past week to do a painting job that was needed. Are you serious 😐 😒

Reading comprehension fail?

The pp didn't say "OP doesn't want a strange man in their house" or "all women don't want a strange man in their houses."
SOME women might not be happy with this.
Bully for you if you are. Other people have different life experiences to you, believe it or not.

I still don't get the overall point you're trying to make. Yes, lots of women don't want to do heavy duty jobs and if all the men who do them suddenly stopped we would notice. Equally lots of men don't want to do caregiving roles, if all the women who performed those suddenly stopped we would also notice. A healthy society depends on people with different talents and strengths. Surely that's obvious?

The only difference is that male-dominated jobs are usually paid far better than female dominated ones so don't really understand why you're representing them as overlooked and under appreciated.

Female decorator about a month ago
Female tree surgeon a couple of weeks ago. She is also a carpenter and makes furniture
Female gardener, every week until she qualified as a wildlife ranger a couple of months ago and moved away

I know you think you are making a point, such an important point - but please, what is it?

ScarlettOYara · 16/06/2025 17:30

He doesn't seem to have been back today. I hope his tradesman did a good job.

Verv · 16/06/2025 17:30

There are women only trades directories online. Plumbers sparkies roofers landscapers, allsorts.

I need my back garden cleared up. A tree cut, weeds cleared.

Can't you do this yourself? Confused

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/06/2025 19:39

No I can't. I have arthritis.. anyway let's go back to hating on men 🤪

Have you considered taking up a hobby?

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 16/06/2025 19:49

Yep, most heavy duty trades are done by men, just as most of the caring duties and jobs are done by women.
Men, on the whole, are usually physically stronger, and built bigger than most women.
There are some women in these trades, but they aren't in the majority.
What is your point though? Who's trying to say otherwise?

What will you be using? I mean, are we talking li'l kitchen knife, machete or full blown wood chipper?

queenmeadhbh · 16/06/2025 20:04

What, even though the majority of posters are saying, yes, most of these jobs are male dominated?
you’ve given yourself away. You thought you’d come and have a good old laugh at the man hating feminists on mumsnet, and then when no-one evidenced any hatred of men, decided to invoke that old chestnut of Valerie Solanas, who, as I am sure you will know from your reading, was a schizophrenic who wanted a fully automated society with no men and no money system. Not someone who gets a lot of support on mumsnet.

Astrak · 16/06/2025 20:13

I don't really care about the gender of people that I want help from. As long as they're competent, reasonably priced and provide a satisfactory service, it's fine by me.

Is this thread about Brexit? 🤪

Loving the fact that most of the jobs in the OP are skilled trades rather than hard manual labour. Like PP I have had women in most of those jobs at times but especially decorating, electrical and plumbing. Women gardeners are commonplace, my tree surgeon is in partnership with his female DP

Care work on the other hand often is very hard physical work.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/06/2025 20:58

Informing an OP that 1) most of the jobs quoted were not physically heavy duty, 2) care work often is heavy duty and is predominantly done by women and 3) there are whole directories full of females in the jobs quoted by OP does not equate to 'hatred of men'.

You just can't handle the fact that if all men died, women would cope. Conversely if all women died, men would cope. Both would adapt. The world would look different. No big deal.

I remember when watchdog used to get trademen into houses with hidden cameras to see what they got up to. Most were just goofing about and not doing a proper job, some were peeing in the sink or the bath, or having a snoop around the home. One even had a wank over the laundry. Yep, tradesmen are great to have around the house 👍

Ever been worried that a woman might rub one out in your laundry room?

PassingStranger · 16/06/2025 21:33

There are not many women taxi drivers or bus drivers.
Good to see female referees now.

Maybe men should go on strike for a week and if you need any of these jobs done they won't get done. Seriously. This is all because women simply don't want to do these jobs that involve hard physical labour.

Years ago, as a school leaver, I took on an NVQ in mechanics, really enjoyed it. To fully qualify I had to take part in a 2 week work placement, I approached so many garages, non of which would agree to have me work there. Never said it was because I was female but the lads on the same course has no such issues.
So no, it's got fuck all to do with women not wanting these roles and more to do with male dominance within these industries.
