To not agree with David Beckham being knighted

Those two are so full of their own self importance already. A knighthood will make them even worse. Absolute publicity seeking pains. They've been angling for this for years.

Will this actually have any effect on your life?
I doubt it.
Why do you care?

Why are you on a chat forum?

If MN is against it then I’m all for it.

Love this.
What does it matter?
How will it affect our lives if he's knighted?
It really won't.
Far worse things to get your knickers in a twist about.
Sir Dave and Lady Vic 😂 there's been worse.
Jimmy Saville😱

Re David helping with the London 2012 bid - no way did he do that at his own expense. The bid cost almost £30m and that would have included the costs of the team including Beckham travelling to Singapore. And Beckham had to be persuaded to go by Sven Goran Eriksson - am sure that including being told ‘could help you get a knighhood’

Sven-Goran Eriksson persuaded Beckham to back London's Olympic bid

Former Sports Minister Richard Caborn said Eriksson insisted on a sweetheart deal for recruiting Beckham to dazzle members of the International Olympic Committee.

She is not talent less. She cannot sing, but that is another thing altogether. She has been successful with her fashion label, and knows how to dress to flatter what she has. Her eye for fashion, and tailoring has made her a fortune, and should not be overlooked.

Does she actually design the clothes?

As long as she realises it is Lady Beckham and not Lady Victoria Beckham, which she was reported to have said a few years ago when the possibility of David being knighted was brought up.

It's so funny that anyone cares if someone styles themselves Lady Victoria or Lady Beckham in 2025. Or even who gets a knighthood.

Admittedly my country doesn't have kings, queens, knights, dragons, castles etc so might be missing the importance but pretty sure even if we did it have them a knighthood wouldn't gain much more than merciless teasing and an expectation of buying all the beers.

Good for him; geat ambassador for kids at grass root level. He behaved humbly when paying his respects to the Queen, unlike other celebs.

He also went on a petulant vile rant a few years ago when he didn’t get one saying ‘why the fuck did they get one (about people who were awarded one). What the fuck have they done (some had done some extraordinary things)

it was recorded.

I’ll be honest I’ve ranted on occasion about perceived injustices. Andy Murray got one for winning Wimbledon - his job which he gets paid a lot to do. I don’t think he deserved it over what DB has done over his career. I can see why DB might be a bit petulant when he sees things like that.

Continually working with countries known for human rights abuse is my issue with him.

In that respect, he fits right in with many who receive knighthoods.

She’s only still in business because David bailed her out!

Early reviews were largely favourable, if slightly sceptical about how long the fashion industry would hold Victoria's attention before she set her sights elsewhere.
But the former Spice Girl's line wasn't always a success - with husband David having to bail her out and 2019 marking 11 consecutive years of losses.
Weeks before her debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2022, her fashion venture 'has debts of £53.9 million'.

That is the story for pretty much all luxury brands. I admire him for having faith in her tbh that it would come good rather than cutting his losses!

That's another admirable quality he's got. His persistence finally paid off. It's quite entertaining seeing a few of his critics resorting to Daily Mail headlines for their dirt on Dave. The irony.

These awards should be reserved for people who have given a lifetime of service to public life. Not loutish former footballers with more money than taste.

LunaDeBallona · 06/06/2025 14:33

What have you done for your country compared to him?
He had a long football career, representing England over 100 times. He was also captain.
He worked hard with Prince William to secure the London Olympics 2012. All his own time, his own expense.
He works for UNICEF
He and Victoria set up a charity/foundation to help disabled children years ago which they give money and time to.
He lives here.
He pays his taxes here.
He supports and gives time to grass roots sports.
He has been appointed a representative of the Kings foundation.
He LOVES his country which is more than the likes of ‘Sir’Keir and ‘Sir’Sadiq Kahn.
Do you complain when civil servants get awards just for doing their well paid job??(see the two above).
If he was that ‘full of his own self importance’ he wouldn’t have queued for 12 hrs to pay his respects to the late Queen, or do ‘normal’ things like go for pie and mash/do his own cooking.
I know that nobody is universally liked but do people really have to be so mean about him and his wife? Both self made, both work hard when they could just fuck off abroad and do bugger all. There’s much worse role models young people could have.
I can’t decide if people are just nasty or bitter and jealous as their own lives are a dismal disappointment.

Olympics 2912-Was it really at his own expense?
Queueing to see the Queens coffin- big deal.
Pie and mash- ha ha!
He seems a pleasant enough man, but a knighthood? No! I agree with recognition for his impressive sporting achievements. His charity work seems to be a means to an end. Ingratiating himself with the Royals is cringey to see. The CBE he has is more than enough recognition imo.

Every rich person avoids tax (legally)if he possibly can.

But what he did wasn’t legal:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-40120027.amp

Anyway, the knighthood was always going to happen at some point after the tax evasion scandal was largely forgotten. We all know they’ve been campaigning for this for years and he’s been a UNICEF ambassador for ages. Knighthoods have been given for less. Does anyone know if they’ve donated any of their own cash to charity?

I agree with you. He is a nice guy but ridiculously overrated.

Cynic17 · 06/06/2025 14:57

I don't have an issue with him getting his K, but what baffles me is why it is all over the press now, when the list is not due to be announced for another week. Recipients are told in strictest confidentiality - surely Becks hasn't leaked it?

I think that the honours system has been so degraded over the past few years that it means nothing. I am more impressed by some of the people who have turned one down.

I like this quote from David Bowie who turned down a CBE and a knighthood
" I would never have any intention of accepting anything like that. I seriously don’t know what it’s for. It’s not what I spent my life working for.

scalt · 06/06/2025 14:59

It's not snobbery, it's being accurate.

Quite. Years ago, she said “Lady Victoria, that would be amazing!” when it was suggested that David might get a knighthood. She could use Victoria if she was a hereditary Lady born to an Earl, Duke etc or of royal blood but she’s not, and will only be able to use Lady Beckham. I think it’s quite important as the media often get it wrong.
