OP announced that she was a strong woman (supporting her DS - hope he's grateful).

You mumsneedwine have said on a number of occasions that you're a mummie and proud.

In what world does repeating these twin very positive claims suddenly become misogyny?

@PurpleFairyLights I’m at a WP conference on Saturday. It’s going to be interesting !!

Glad you picked up the hint! Slightly late to the party 😂 Maybe see you there? Best of luck with the trains they've been shocking all week (overhead wires, principally).

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 21:21

Black Sheep Coffee might help restore you :)

That's a genuine tip.

mumsneedwine · 02/07/2025 21:48

Oh dear. Nought so weird as folk. 💰

Again, for the hard of understanding.

UKGrads to get priority. Simples.

The jokers will be along shortly blaming the 350 extra medical school places or that UKMGs are not good enough or UK medical education is not robust enough or the specialist training doctors need to have a PhD 😂

Not too weird to say that Avanti West Coast has been having huge issues all week, that a journey might be troublesome, and that Black Sheep Coffee at Glasgow Central is some of the best in Glasgow.

How on earth is that weird?

Wonderful meerkats.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 21:58

Although that is by no means the best photo of a meerkat.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:00

That's just Aleksandr.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:03

Beautiful eyes. Doesn't look super bright but certainly looks empathetic.

Most of the specialist training doctors where I work do have PhDs but that wasn't because of lack of jobs but because they are involved in clinical trials.
The doctors shouldn't be doing panic masters or PhDs because of no jobs.
Btw the benefit comment was in jest I am sure many medics can find something to fill the gaps.

Now this one looks a little sharper. Not sure which uni he went to but a top one I'm sure.

That's enough of meerkats but they make a pleasant change from mumsneedwine's rocks which have been a feature of these threads rather too often.

Any medic who has completed F2 should be easily capable of getting an interim job while they work out what to do next.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:11

I have to say, I thought you were being serious - apologies.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:14

Plenty have PhDs. Not across the country maybe, but in certain areas they do. I was surprised at the reaction from OP. I assume she doesn't know that they're good currency for certain consultant posts. Obviously hard to come by a funded one without a strong academic profile so that could be a significant problem for some.

mumsneedwine · 02/07/2025 22:14

Why ? Why would someone spend their time posting on a thread that has nothing to do with them. Posting strange (& slightly concerning) posts. It’s the weirdest way to live your life, maybe get a job ?

I will do a poll on Saturday of the doctors in attendance to see who has a phd. Obviously the preserve of the wealthy but then we are back to elitism and snobbery again.

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:16

mumsneedwine the WP conference is in Glasgow. I assume you meant you were going too. Hardly strange, given the thread :)

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:18

I think you'd look a little odd if you took a poll of attendees? Just saying. By no means all are NHS consultants in any event.

Funded PhD's the preserve of a wealthy elite? That's a new one on me!

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:20

Perhaps your conference is elsewhere. I guess it must be if you were puzzled by a post Avanti West Coast coffee tip. Most people fall out of the train and run straight for their fix :)

Sevillian · 02/07/2025 22:23

But the big conference this Saturday is Glasgow Uni for sure, so I just assumed (especially since I mentioned it several pages back, not sure how many days ago).

My DC intends to do a PhD on their training journey but agree no UKMG should have to do a PhD to get into specialty training. Also will need a job to fund.

I think the PhD comment which you reacted strongly too was when people were suggesting ways for your DS to improve his application. It's not such a terrible idea if he's at a loose end for a while. Bringing it forward could be a smart move.
