Tell me my dh is being unreasonable ?
We have a noisy petrol mower at he is outside mowing the lawn !
I've been out ( in my nightie ! ) and told him it's too early , and he has told me it's not .
Surely it's way too early ?

Its pretty early but I guess term-time weekday the majority of people are up around that time and most night workers wouldn’t be home yet to be woken up so really not the end of the world. 7am on weekends would be more annoying when those that can want a lie in.

Ouvavuuu · 02/06/2025 07:15

very inconsiderate. I’m awake but don’t want to hear that as soon as I wake up. There’s also babies, children, elderly people still asleep.
you were right to say something.

Lazygardener · 02/06/2025 07:16

Depends on your neighbours. Mine are retired and I would think it very anti-social to be making a noise at 7 am.

PurpleThistle7 · 02/06/2025 07:18

I wouldn’t like it but I wouldn’t think I had a right to say anything. Perfectly legal where I am.

however a bit silly as surely the grass is wet?

AnOldCynic · 02/06/2025 07:18

7.30am is the permitted start time for noisy work here. I’d still be pissed off if someone started that early though and I’m awake by 6 usually.

Just because he can, doesn’t mean he should.

myplace · 02/06/2025 07:07

How can people be asleep at 7am on a weekday? Surely most people have work or school?

You Can’t really work around shifts as they are so variable.

Well it’s not just shift workers who may be asleep. It could be retired people, people on maternity leave, people who work from home and have no commute so don’t have to be up at that time, ill/disabled people who aren’t currently working…
Im always up before 7 but I wouldn’t mow the lawn at that time because I know not everyone else is. And because the grass would be dewy and it would wreck the lawn mower 🤷🏻‍♀️

ETA my kids are still asleep because their school is 5 mins away and they don’t have to leave the house until 8.40am. They’ll be up at about 7.50am.

Bryonyberries · 02/06/2025 07:22

I’ve got early bird neighbours who do garden work from around 8am. It is a little annoying if it’s my day off but I’m usually awake already.

We are up every day 6am. 7am isn't a big deal.

That's you. But it isn't everyone. It's too early - builders are not usually allowed to start as early as this either. . 8am is more reasonable

Createausername1970 · 02/06/2025 07:23

I think it's too early to be honest, a lot of people will still be asleep.

8.00 is more appropriate.

GRex · 02/06/2025 07:24

7am is well within normal waking times for lots of households, but not all. Mowing or doing anything else ridiculously noisy before 9 seems quite antisocial as some people will still be sleeping. I weirdly quite like the sound of a lawnmower while lolling about in a warm bed, it always makes me think of happy summer mornings as a child.

Not everyone has kids at home. Not everyone has to be up for a long commute. Not everyone works. Surely you realise not everyone lives to the same schedule as you.

7am is far too early. But I guess the OP’s husband lacks any imagination like so many posters on this thread. And even if he could imagine other people’s lives, he doesn’t care anyway.

tripleginandtonic · 02/06/2025 07:26

Moat people are awake by 7, work and school. Yabu

PlopAlongCassidy · 02/06/2025 07:28

Yes, it's too early if you have neighbours

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 02/06/2025 07:29

Rude and inconsiderate. I’m up by then, but I’m not so self absorbed that I don’t realise other people might not be. I wouldn’t do anything noisy in the garden before 9.

Sunnyday321 · 02/06/2025 07:30

Yes I obviously agree it's too early ( hence the thread ) inspite of me going out and telling him he carried on ,p. He must have thought about it and came in 10 minutes ago and is now watching t.v.
He has an infected finger at the moment , and I think it's sent him weird !

Too early. A lot of people could still be asleep.

cremebruleee · 02/06/2025 07:33

Oh you’ve bought out the competitive early risers OP 😂! 7am is practically midday to them!

I’d be a bit irritated. Just like when my neighbour revs his motorbike at 7am. Or the people out the back let their kids out on the trampoline at 7am. I wouldn’t say anything but there’s no need to make that much noise that early. No one round here cuts the grass until after 9, weekday and weekends.

babystarsandmoon · 02/06/2025 07:35

I’m already up for the day at 7 but I’d still feel a rage building as a neighbour and think you inconsiderate twat.

babystarsandmoon · 02/06/2025 07:36

2025ishere · 02/06/2025 07:03

Yes it’s too early unless you live on your own island or you neighbours all have toddlers and will have been up since 5 anyway.

Some little ones like to sleep in!

minnienono · 02/06/2025 07:37

Is be annoyed if you were my neighbours, my alarm doesn’t go off until 7.45am (woke up early today)

AuntMarch · 02/06/2025 07:39

babystarsandmoon · 02/06/2025 07:36

Some little ones like to sleep in!

Can I swap mine for one of them please?

Koalafan · 02/06/2025 07:42

It's not unreasonable at all, especially if rain or extremely hot weather is forecast later on.

Koalafan · 02/06/2025 07:43

K0OLA1D · 02/06/2025 07:05

Bit earlier, but it would be worse at 7am on a weekend or bank holiday. The bin men woke the world up at 5.45 this morning

Ooo, how terrible of them, removing your rubbish for you.

rwalker · 02/06/2025 07:44

8 fine 7 no

K0OLA1D · 02/06/2025 07:45

Koalafan · 02/06/2025 07:43

Ooo, how terrible of them, removing your rubbish for you.

I was already awake. I was just saying they woke everyone up before 6am.

Wouldn't give a shite if my neighbour mowed his grass at 7am on a work day. Wouldn't do it myself.
