2nd Date, he embarrassed me in a restaurant

Am I over reacting here? I suspect I might be.

1st date went well, 2nd date today. We went for for late/early dinner. nice restaurant. We got talking about Austria, Switzerland etc and he said “I can yodel”. I just laughed so he said “I can show you?” So I laughed again and said “in the middle of a restaurant?”

He then started yodelling loudly. I swear everyone turned around and looked at us. I’m normally pretty passive and would usually just quietly die inside but on this occasion I was beyond embarrassed, absolutely mortified and snapped “Shush!”

He laughed and said “what?” So I said “seriously? We’re in the middle of a restaurant”. He said sorry (whilst still laughing) and tried to change the subject but I couldn’t get past it. Who does that?

I don’t like being centre of attention and yes I embarrass easy. I ended up going home early as I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. He’s messaged me since asking if everything is ok, I don’t think he’s actually associating my change in mood to the yodelling incident!! Making me think maybe I’m over reacting??

Could he actually yodel though?

EdgarAllenRaven · 30/05/2025 21:39

I would give him one more chance…
sometimes people do embarrass themselves on dates, especially when they’re nervous. He might calm down a bit with time… or you may be incompatible. But he deserves another chance if he is nice in other ways.

Bleachedlevis · 30/05/2025 21:39

Bloody ridiculous behaviour. Who the f**k does that in a restaurant?

SunDash · 30/05/2025 21:40

On the plus side, he was obviously excited to be with you...is that a good thing? You decide.

jetlag92 · 30/05/2025 21:43

No that's inappropriate. He doesn't know how to behave in public

Sunnyevenings · 30/05/2025 21:43

When I was younger I'd have been mortified by causing attention in the restaurant. Since my mid 40s, I admire people for not giving a shit about what other people think of them tbh. We're dead long enough.......

TwistedWonder · 30/05/2025 20:40

I wouldn’t have got through the date. I’d have gone to the ladies and not returned.
I can’t stand show offs and this would have made me cringe so hard I couldn’t get past it.

What would you have done? Climbed out of the toilet window or something?

SheridansPortSalut · 30/05/2025 21:24

From experience - get out now. It'll only get worse.

You dates a yodeller?

WiganWheel · 30/05/2025 21:51

@mumofoneAlonebutokay psychotic? Seriously? Daft yes….embarrassing….maybe….well….he’s different, that’s for sure. But not psychotic. That’s a horrible thing to say.

Masmavi · 30/05/2025 21:52

He’s obviously an extrovert and you’re not. Probably just not compatible, no one’s fault.

If I were to take an educated guess I'm fairly sure the answer would be 'Nobody'

God. I’d have left immediately.

Why would I climb out of a window when there’s a perfectly decent door to leave through?

Oh apologies. I misunderstood. When you said you wouldn't have returned I assumed you meant you wouldn't have left through the door you came in.

ThrowawayAccount29 · 30/05/2025 21:58

Bloody hell, you’re a bit uptight 😂 I’d think that was bloody hilarious if my date started yodelling. No wonder you’re single.

Ponoka7 · 30/05/2025 19:45

I don't think that you are compatible and you don't seem to be able to be honest, or communicate what is bothering you, so any relationship isn't going to work.

This

jenny38 · 30/05/2025 22:01

Yes you are over reacting. This is not a deal breaker. He sounds funny and confident, he just misjudged it slightly. We have all said or done the wrong thing, especially when nervous.

Interesting that certain posters are describing this as being 'fun'.

To me, disturbing other people eating their food and own conversations is not 'fun'.
It''s deeply inconsiderate.

A big thumbs down to attention seeking show offs.

BunnyLake · 30/05/2025 22:02

BMW6 · 30/05/2025 19:46

Well I'd give him a second chance as he now knows you were embarrassed, but one more "performance" and I'd be walking away.

Yes this. Any more embarrassing nonsense and you’ll know absolutely that he’s not for you but it may be worth giving him another chance. I can’t stand being embarrassed by a bloke’s behaviour. I’ve had a couple of bf’s like that and it’s a total turn off. You don’t want to be dating someone where you or others say ‘you can’t take him anywhere’. Next strike and he’s out.

Shetlands · 30/05/2025 22:03

Yodelling in a restaurant? Pillock! Too much Mr Bean and not enough Mr Darcy for me.

If the topic of France had arisen, I bet he'd have played the Marseillaise with his armpit.

MaryGreenhill · 30/05/2025 22:04

See he sounds fab to me but it takes all sorts to make a world .

100% agree. Making an embarrassing scene in a restaurant and being absolutely inconsiderate to the other customers really isn’t my idea of ‘fun’

Its attention seeking, cringey and humiliating.
