2nd Date, he embarrassed me in a restaurant

Am I over reacting here? I suspect I might be.

1st date went well, 2nd date today. We went for for late/early dinner. nice restaurant. We got talking about Austria, Switzerland etc and he said “I can yodel”. I just laughed so he said “I can show you?” So I laughed again and said “in the middle of a restaurant?”

He then started yodelling loudly. I swear everyone turned around and looked at us. I’m normally pretty passive and would usually just quietly die inside but on this occasion I was beyond embarrassed, absolutely mortified and snapped “Shush!”

He laughed and said “what?” So I said “seriously? We’re in the middle of a restaurant”. He said sorry (whilst still laughing) and tried to change the subject but I couldn’t get past it. Who does that?

I don’t like being centre of attention and yes I embarrass easy. I ended up going home early as I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. He’s messaged me since asking if everything is ok, I don’t think he’s actually associating my change in mood to the yodelling incident!! Making me think maybe I’m over reacting??

I'd have been looking for a hole in the ground. Who would do that in the middle of a restaurant? That's just so strange. YANBU.

gamerchick · 30/05/2025 20:23

Was he any good at it?

I'd probably find it really funny. But you don't and you're obviously not a good match. It's good you've found out now though early doors.

Attention seeking men are really hard work. You can never relax or fully trust when you never know when the next impromptu performance will be. It's always about them and how fucking 'gregarious' and 'people person-y' they are. He will shrink you if you let him.

Well said.

CustardySergeant · 30/05/2025 20:26

He obviously likes to be the centre of attention, which you don't, so this might well be only the first of many embarrassing dates if you continue seeing him.

Also, what's a late/early dinner? It's one or the other surely. 😕

Uninhibited perhaps. Hardly psychotic.
Still if @RTooDeeTo can't get past it, she is of course quite free not to see him again.

😭😭 a man yodelling at a restaurant on a date? Insane behaviour

*not literally but almost literally

Justchillinhere · 30/05/2025 20:28

Only you can answer that but I'm the same, hate being the centre of attention. I'd slide down that chair and skidaddle out the exit asap

Duckyfondant · 30/05/2025 20:29

I'd find that quite entertaining, so whilst you may be incompatible, please don't tell him he's done something wrong.

Tessiebear2023 · 30/05/2025 20:30

He stopped when you asked him to, so I don't understand why you're giving him such a hard time over it? I'd find it entertaining and funny personally - as long as he didn't do it to the point of pissing people off. You didn't like it, he obviously thought you would (otherwise I'm sure he wouldn't have done it), and that's fine. C'est la vie. I don't get why you're so cross with him though, he's showing concern by asking how you are, he clearly didn't do it to ruin your day, so stop taking it so personally. It's fine to not like that sort of thing, but it doesn't make him some sort of terrible person.

SouthLondonMum22 · 30/05/2025 20:35

I don't think you overreacted. I'd be wondering what other inappropriate things he'd do in public places and I'd be annoyed that he disturbed other people trying to eat.

Guavafish1 · 30/05/2025 20:36

Chill out

SophiaPetrillo1905 · 30/05/2025 19:49

That reminds me of the scene in the Santa Clause 2 where the lady Tim Allen is on a date with starts singing a Christmas themed song to the tune of Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain - maybe people thought you were film stars?!

Trying so hard to make something fit, without success.

Imbusytodaysorry · 30/05/2025 20:37

@RTooDeeTo he is an attention seeker and happy to be at your expense/embarrassment

Move on op

TwistedWonder · 30/05/2025 20:40

I wouldn’t have got through the date. I’d have gone to the ladies and not returned.
I can’t stand show offs and this would have made me cringe so hard I couldn’t get past it.

I absolutely died inside laughing at that bit 😂 I would 100% be a Tim Allen and sink into my chair!

Beautifulweeds · 30/05/2025 20:43

I would find this hilarious 😂 However it sounds like you're different types of people; he doesn't care about what others think and you do. Personally I prefer someone who likes fun, though he could be a lot to handle and I settled with a DH who wasn't like this but my friends are.

TheHillsIsLonely · 30/05/2025 20:46

Does he live high on a hill, is he lonely and does he work as a goatherd?

BeachBabe998 · 30/05/2025 20:46

I would find this hilarious but it would also make my vagina clamp shut. Not sexy, at all 😂

Cherrysoup · 30/05/2025 20:46

Oh my days, I’d have sunk through the floor in shame! I don’t think you’ll be seeing him again, will you? He sounds very extrovert. Fun is great but that was crazy attention seeking.

babystarsandmoon · 30/05/2025 20:47

There’s no going back from the ick on date 2.

JustAnInchident · 30/05/2025 20:48

This is absolutely hilarious! I mean… was he good at yodelling? 😂 my whole answer, I fear, hinges on that.

No, seriously though, if you’re not into him, you’re not. If you have the ick, you do and there’s no coming back from that! Just call it a day and move on.

TheHillsIsLonely · 30/05/2025 20:50

I might get past it if he looks good in lederhosen.

Perhapsanothertime · 30/05/2025 20:51

😂😂😂

was he any good?

beAsensible1 · 30/05/2025 20:51

Yes it is embarrassing leaving is a bit much though. But If it bothered you then that’s fine you don’t need a reason

id have laughed 😂

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 30/05/2025 20:52

Just place marking as I want to know if he was actually any good!?

Bridgetjonesheart · 30/05/2025 20:54

He sounds like good fun!
