Neighbour having an affair - do I report my suspicions?

AmzJS · 29/05/2025 20:53

We live next to a couple - lady is probably mid/late 30’s, the man in his 40’s. They don’t have children.

Both are pleasant, and the man does shift work - one week a month he leaves early evening and works into the following day (we often hear his car pull up in the early hours).

DH and I have both noticed over recent months that a couple of times a week when her partner is on lates, the lady will be picked up by a car (the same one) around 6.30/7pm (she doesn’t drive) and not return until closer to midnight - the car will usually linger outside with the engine running as they are in it chatting.

With the lighter evenings, we’ve noticed that on these occasions she is always ‘done up’ in make up and wearing flattering outfits - tight dresses, heels etc. On one occasion, my DH was out the front and he said there was an over bearing smell of perfume. She rarely appears like this at any other time when her partner is home.

She has gone out again tonight and we’ve noticed her - again the same car, and her all dressed up.

We are convinced she is having an affair, it has all the hallmarks and it’s too much of a coincidence to only be when her partner is working lates.

I feel like morally, I should say something - but I don’t want to put my foot in it. Would anyone have ideas on how to approach this?

Not on topic but is something going on with the scrolling on these threads (using iphone). The scrolling seems to be going on forever, never getting to the bottom of the page. Or is it just my phone playing up?

I've reported this to mnhq to see if they can help, not going nosey, honest

My DH has just made a good point whilst we’ve been chuckling at some of the replies.

We wonder how many MN’rs themselves have had affairs? Quite a few we suspect.

Oh you sound like a pair of utte bores, the pair of you! Get s pair of lives.

Apparently it’s a pilot trial. For what or why is anyone’s guess. It’s called infinite scrolling, no less! You can ask to be removed from this trial if you go on the thread for it. I found it on google. People hate it (quite why anyone would like it would be a mystery to me). You’ll find me on there and I’m not a happy bunny 😂

Well, well, well.

At the risk of coming across a bit smug, it sounds like my suspicions have been confirmed.

Given the warmer night, we had our bedroom window open and shortly after being woken by our neighbour returning from work in the early hours, we heard a right old slanging match going on - I’m surprised it didn’t wake half the street!

The term ‘liar’ was heard loud and clear directed at the lady - so that says to me she has been caught out.

I hope a few apologies are posted in my direction - I’ve told DH to get the fry up on!

the genuine horror I feel imagining living in proximity to people like you 😱

also I do not believe the veracity of this story, and it's ultra-convenient denouement, one bit, and the fact that you'd invent this tale of a harlot's downfall somehow makes you worse.

Never2many · 30/05/2025 12:40

I have asked MNHQ why this thread has been left to stand when it is so blatantly made up.

And no, that’s not troll hunting on the same scale as e.g. someone going through something personal and being accused, this is so obviously fake especially given the responses and the previous thread about the teacher.

I mean the op is good for a laugh and nobody is taking her seriously any more, but given some of the innocuous threads that end up being deleted I think it’s fair to ask.

How convenient that you heard this the morning after this thread in which you have had your arse handed to you.

But hopefully it’s shown you that this man didn’t need your help at all, so keep your beak out in future.

OCDmama · 30/05/2025 12:49

Christ OP you sound like such a sanctimonious, snobby busybody. 'ripe for infidelity' because they're not married? They could be trying for children? Get the fry up on?

You're absolutely revelling in this, you sound utterly awful. You're disgusting.

StrawberryWater · 30/05/2025 12:54

OP has far too much time on their hands and needs a hobby.

MintChocCat · 30/05/2025 12:58

AllWhitNoWhoo · 29/05/2025 21:26

I'd think a Netflix subscription or a new hobby might help you, op

😂

RunningJo · 30/05/2025 13:15

I think everyone needs to stop responding to the OP, the whole thing is clearly not true and I’m sure she’s at home laughing to herself when anyone posts an outraged response.

OP, you need to get yourself a job or a hobby that isn’t making up shit on here. 🙄

Still trying to goad people? Hmm.

RunningJo · 30/05/2025 13:19

Also Op, have you thought that when you apparently (🙄) heard the word ‘liar’, maybe she was telling her husband that her odd neighbour has been constantly watching her, he laughingly called his wife a liar because he didn’t believe anyone would behave in such a ludicrous way as you.

Let’s hope they now have a bet on to see who can make you curtain twitch the most….

ps/ I appreciate the irony of me messaging when my previous message was to say we should all stop 🤣🤣🤣

Oh god this really annoyed me! I saw it the other day but luckily, mine went back to normal. You have to scroll and scroll for ages to post anything and you can’t remember where you got up to with reading the thread!

I’m back to normal now so they fixed it promptly but why anyone thinks it’s an improvement is just mind boggling.

Indeed, quite remarkable how this has been going on for several months, yet the day after OP posts about it (and gets arse handed to her), she's proven correct!

What amazing timing!

FigTreeInEurope · 30/05/2025 13:42

I'll bet her from next door is out, galavanting round town, while he's down the bookies spending all 'leccie money ont' horses.

AmzJS · 30/05/2025 13:55

Midday update - she hasn’t gone to work as usual, so it looks like there are some crisis talks!

Wow how exciting, have you got your tape recorder ready

WearyAuldWumman · 30/05/2025 14:10

I've been trying to recall where I've seen the OP's style of writing previously and now it's come to me.

Years ago, I used to frequent a Doctor Who fan forum. One of the posters there was hilarious. He once had an entire thread complaining about the anachronistic appearance of UPVC windows on an episode of Doctor Who.

You had to be there, but it was comedy gold. I take my hat off to the OP.

Is this your hobby or your occupation OP?

Go and treat yourself to an episode of Columbo and a nice cup of tea.

Or he's beaten her so badly she can't go out 🤷‍♀️

Better make sure you call her boss as well and tell them they employ a brazen hussy. After all that's what you when something isn't your business...

Wish I could recall the 2nd ridiculous plot you'd made though

Comedycook · 30/05/2025 14:36

This can't be real surely?!

I'd barely be this invested if my own DH was having an affair let alone a neighbour

MumbleBumbleAppleCrumble · 30/05/2025 14:40

Before you do perhaps watch or listen to Alan Bennett’s A Lady Of Letters, one of his completely brilliant Talking Heads.
And, in summary: no. Absolutely, not. It is none of your business and besides you have no idea what the situation is. It may well be an affair, it may be anything. These people are nothing to do with you and you risk causing irreparable damage over something you know absolutely nothing about and which is and should be absolutely none of your business. I’d suggest stopping the curtain twitching and looking for something better to fill the void .

And if OP is not a troll then she's a nasty, vindictive auld cow.
