To want my parcel - woman denying accepting it but I have a photo..

I ordered some stuff off sports direct (about £20 worth) and, because I haven’t ordered off there for a couple of years, stupidly got it sent to my old address which was stored on the web site. Yes I know it’s annoying and stupid so I don’t need that lecture.

So once I clocked on what had happened, I went round there to collect it - couple of days later. The woman who bought the house off me completely denies having received it, despite the courier’s photo showing it being accepted at the front door. I can see two sets of children’s feet at the door on the picture. I obviously recognise the doorstep - I lived there for nearly 20 years.

Please note, I did not shout or accuse, I was very polite, I said I was “puzzled” and that there must have been some sort of confusion but she was adamant she hadn’t had it. It was a shoe box sized parcel so not massive to store and not easy to lose either.

Do you clever lot have any idea if there’s anything I can do?

I half expected her to come to the door wearing my gym gear 😆

Can you see that it’s her accepting it though? Could it be someone else and she genuinely didnt know?

KarmenPQZ · 26/05/2025 16:31

Maybe she looked at the name but rejected the parcel after the delivery driver had taken the photo. I’ve had that before
and rejected the parcel even tho the driver has already selected delivered. I’ve no idea what happened to it after then

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 16:32

It looks like two kids accepting it (let’s not go there about them answering the door and accepting parcels) but they are too young to have been there by themselves (6 and 4ish?). She must’ve been in.

there was no sort of “oh let’s have a look at the picture, that’s a mystery” sort of chat, just flat out denial.

Put the photo on your local fb group and ask who took delivery of it. Suggest it might have been a former neighbour somewhere near x street. Publicly shame her into remembering her kids took it in and she was planning to keep it.

But there's a photo of a woman accepting it on the doorstep?

Yes I thought about that. I don’t think she had any shame though. I mean it was obvious I knew she was lying.

Annoying, but it’s £20 so I would just kick myself for being careless and write it off. Life’s too short - what do you propose doing to get them back?

KarmenPQZ · 26/05/2025 16:35

There’s a photo of her looking at the parcel on the doorstep. She could have then handed it back. As I said in my post I’ve done this… taken the parcel, had the photo taken, looked at the parcel and passed it back to the driver.

vivainsomnia · 26/05/2025 16:35

It's already been sold on vented so she can't acknowledge having received it now!

Yes i think that’s all I can do. Unless the genius mn hive mind can come up with a better plan.

The leggings have sold out now as well!

But another adult could have been in? I once denied delivery of something because DH had put the parcel in a weird place and not told me!

Her husband also came to the door. He also denied all knowledge.

She could just say that though, instead of denying all knowledge of it?
Op this reminds me of a thread a couple of years ago, the op had ordered a wedding dress and it went to the wrong house. She called around and householder denied all knowledge of it. Op went online to buy it again, found it on vinted (or similar) and yes it was her neighbour selling it! Iirc she offered to buy it from neighbour (didn't use her real name) rocked up to view it and prised it out of her neighbours hands.

Coffeeishot · 26/05/2025 16:43

I would go.through the delivery company say you never received or go to sports direct and hopefully you get a refund, we had this hoha with a parcel recently and we did get a refund eventually, some folk are just cheeky feckers aren't they ?

NicolaCasanova · 26/05/2025 16:44

Look on Vinted for the items.

SparklyGlitterballs · 26/05/2025 16:47

Did you not show her the photo and ask if it was her kids accepting it? I'd have asked her to explain the delivery photo.

I did show her yes. She just said she had no idea.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/05/2025 16:53

She doesn't know anything about it. If she did she'd have kept it for you. If her kids took it then it's long gone and they'll probably deny it, not that you can force her to ask them.

You just have to accept you made an error by not changing the address. You could try and get a refund and just tell them it's missing?

JaneWithTheUntidyHouse · 26/05/2025 16:54

This happened to us once OP. The people at our old address flat out denied it. We never got the parcel back. Sorry, there's not much you can do.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2025 16:55

Ok so I have found the same item on vinted, brand new with tags. Is there any way of finding out where the item is located on there?

She did ask the kids because they answered the door again!

You can't no you could maybe contact them and say you can collect and go round and it's a gotcha

You can usually see the sellers location if you click on their profile.

Not sure why people are suggesting she refused the delivery. Surely she would just say that if she did, rather than deny all knowledge.

Usually if you go on the sellers profile it’ll say a loose location? Other than that, maybe message and ask where are they based as you are keen for a speedy delivery or something? Then if it’s the right location it’ll be obvious it’s her, in which case I would go back round with the message thread as proof. If it is her, cheeky cow!

RareGoalsVerge · 26/05/2025 16:59

Tell her that you are going to report it to the police as stolen and will be giving them the photograph showing it being accepted at the wrong address as proof that it was accepted there. Give her 48 hours notice to "check everywhere" and if it turns up you'll say no more about it. If it doesn't turn up, follow through and report it.

The police may not do anything, but it will be an easy crime to solve for their statistics if they have time.

If they don't, lodge a claim against her in the small claims court, then she can pay you the cost of the goods she took plus the court costs too.
